It's important that we keep bringing this topic up. We should keep reminding ZOS how badly they botched the new jabs animations until they fix it. There was no reason to change the animation in the first place. They could have changed the timing without changing the animation even easier than what they did.

They changed it to 3 so they could properly balance damage increasing sets (Like Draugrkin or the reworked Maelstrom Greatsword) without having Templar Jabs severely overperforming compared to other classes. With it only hitting 3 times, it can be compared to a force pulse. And if you really want the advantage, Flurry still hits 4 times but is available to all classes so everyone can use it (with the tradeoff of being single target). While I'm upset they nerfed the number of hits, it is much more balanced compared to the other options.

No it wouldn't. They could use the same spear of light and just make it hit only 3 times. The use of a glowing night hollow stave as a spear was pretty close to the worst call I've ever seen a developer make in a game that's alleged to be a premier MMO in the industry. And since when does a spear get flipped around the users hip?
If ZOS was smart they'd revert the animation just to preserve their reputation.

I don't even notice it anymore.
I preferred the previous animation. But if people are Qutting the entire game because of this change, they had more issues than they admit to.

I don't mind the Flurry animation changes, because it now is appropriate for ALL weapon types. Before I thought it was dumb if you were wielding an axe or mace... that you would be 'stabbing' people with it instead of slashing. At least now it was changed to a slashing animation, which fits all weapon types.
Jabs... yeah, I much preferred the old animation. However, I don't mind the new one. As Templar was my main for years, and seeing many players had negative reaction, I expected to hate the new animation. However, after playing it for awhile I honestly don't even notice anymore.
Yet, for people to quit playing Templar over the animation change tells me they really didn't enjoy Templar all that much in the first place. I stepped away from Templar because I wanted to play a different class, not because of an animation change or the much needed nerf to Sweeps. Even as a Templar main I knew that Sweeps was OP and had been for years... after all... many Streamers affectionately referred to Templar as 'Godplar' and it was mainly due to Sweeps. Yet, even with the nerfs that some people still claim made Sweeps "useless"... Streamers are back ranking Templar as S or S+ tier and once again utilizing Sweeps in the rotation. So I think the players claiming that Templar is bad, are just doing so because of their animosity towards the new animation- and not an actual result of Sweeps being bad. Just my thoughts.
The new animation is terrible. It's also no longer really new. I've articulated it in the past (I'm a professional animator), during the u35 PTS, how to fix it, what could be put into it to make it better, how it's bad... Like you can go in and edit the animation to be better! It won't take long! It needs better timing and some tweaks to the arcs of the spear, take the 45 minutes to an hour of work that it would take to fix it to make it satisfying to use! Right now it blows! The old animation looked and felt great to use, but this new one [snip] and shouldn't exist in a fully released game as it currently is.
[snip]
Just... Fix it already. I'm sure you're busy. But just give an animator a project to tweak it slightly to make it better. Give someone two hours of work to work on it. At Zenimax, how much is that two hours of work for one person, less than a hundred bucks? My wallet is open, I'll pay that hundred bucks. Just... Fix it already. Or revert it. The current animation is terrible.

I recall when they changed the style for a particular Redguard Armour several years ago and there was an uproar over the changes. The developers actually addressed the topic on a live show and even though it wasn't a very satisfying answer, people did move on from it.

Not only did they address the Redguard armor changes, they promised to never do such a thing again, unless something was "wrong". I suppose we could argue they say "bad animation" as one of the wrong reasons, but nothing was "wrong" with the jabs animation for years and years. It wasn't broken. They just decided to update it. And not only did they update the actual animation, but also the graphics. They absolutely could have done one without the other and left the original shard of light model.
IMO, both changes (the animation itself and the new model recycled vamp staff) are way more "wrong" than they used to be.
