New weapon line wont be a thing. Adding the new weapon to every loot pool will need to be accompanied by a weapon skin made for 120+ motifs in game.

That is a serious labor investment.

This. You will never get new weapon skill line despite how hard you are dreaming about it.

They could make weapon line for just one handed weapon where you use existing onehanded weapons and other hand is just empty. That way no need to add new weapon. And regarding sets if one hand is empty, weapon in other hand counts as two set items.

This doesn't even require a new weapon skill line.
All you need is a new guild/world skill line, and then set the passive ability to: increase % damage when the player is not holding a weapon. When the player holds a one-handed weapon, the damage is increased by Y%.

Problem is, that even if they add new mag weapon, you'll still be tied to "apply few dots, then spam X skill X times". Gameplay won't change for you.

If they add new weapon types, they'll have to add it to every existing loot pool. You know messing with the "old code" never ends well. XD

Wiser words have never been spoken.

Double-edged sword held in one hand, where you use telekinesis for light and heavy attacks to strike at medium range (~15m)

    Call it spellblade

Make the heavy attacks restore magicka and stamina

Make the weapon skills cost both magicka and stamina

Then boom, an awesome and unique concept suitable for any playstyle making everyone happy

There are enemies in game, right now, who use duelist fighting style (one handed weapon). That is a zero-time investment for assets.

They could also add Shadow and Blood staves by taking from the enemy NPC animations.

Yet another possibility is to add a new "Aetherial mythic item" to the game that you equip in your off-hand and it turns the main hand weapon into a magicka version of the original.

I do think mythics could add an interesting alternative route to a new weapon type if they are unwilling to try a transmutable (so you can get it for sets without adding to the loot pool maybe? [Don't they already add stuff to the pools with leads though?]) energy offhand weapon

I’ve always thought they could just introduce a new offhand - a tome, focus or whatever you want to call it. It would then unlock a weapon skill line that is some kind of spellblade.
