How to stop the blue smoke memento noise?

There's a blue smoke memento or emote that I've seen lots of players using with a continuous low humming noise that can be really disturbing after a while. I don't own it so I can't tell the name, but I made a capture to show. The thing is that it seems to be a permanent action, I never saw it disappear on any player using it. I'm not sure if the player knows about the noise it produces, but I guess they don't or they wouldn't be using it. Since this is a multiplayer game, I think that this kind of permanent noisy actions shouldn't happen, but since it does, I'd really like to know if there's a way at my end to disable this kind of sounds from other players permanent mementos. I usually play with headphones and that humming can be listening really far, and when there are many players using it simultaneously it's really takes over everything else.

This is how it looks:

    They choose to have it.

Because it's different, they think it looks cool, fits their outfit etc.

Seems odd to me that someone opts to run around deliberately with that noisy thing, unless they aren't playing with sound. It doesn't even look cool and I don't remember to ever see a case that would look like it was planned as part of the outfit.

I think it's disturbing (on headphones) and I only have to deal with that noise when I go to Vivec (there are always players there "wearing" that thing) or when I'm matched with someone in a group using it. I can't even imagine how disgusting would be to permanently have that noise on background while playing.

Is there any chance for this issue to get fixed soon?

There are already so many players using that blue smoke bug and it's so loud... really unbearable while using headphones. I need to constantly mute the sound when there's some player close using it. An option to mute other players sound effects would be absolutely perfect.

On the link you shared a few days ago the player stuck with that blue smoke thing is saying that he couldn't fix the problem. That's why I thought it was a bug. But it really looks like a memento. The weird thing is that when you are close to someone with that blue smoke seems that it never disappears, while mementos have a limited time.

Bug or not it would be really nice if we could disable that sound. In fact an option to disable other players sound effects could also be nice for trumpets for example.

They fixed it by completing the quest, its not a memento. I dont particularly notice the sound even on headphones (I’m on console so may have slightly different options) but maybe check if adjusting something like environmental sounds volume takes the edge off it

It doesn't work. I already set the environmental sounds volume to zero. The only solution for now is to mute all, or don't go to populated zones and don't group with players using that noisy smoke.

The quest completion doesn't seem to have been a proper fix, because it's still happening out of quest.

This really needs to be fixed. Because more and more players are using this thing and the continued noise that it spreads far and wide can be quite disturbing for gamers who use headphones.

If that's really caused by some quest, I think it shouldn't be heard by other players. Or we should have the option to disable other players' sound effects, or, at the very least, stop hearing other players' noise if we block them. I wouldn't mind blocking every player I encounter with this effect. It could be a good solution.

What you need to turn down is "effects volume". That will remove the sound for you.

Yes, that's the problem. I'd like to keep the sound from my character but disable the noise from other players' characters when I'm using headphones. Like that annoying sound of the blue smoke or even other emotes and mementos.

For some weird reason this blue smoke thing, instead of being fixed, is again plaguing the game. Can we at least have an option to permanently disable other players noises, so we aren't forced to disable all sounds when someone is in our group or close annoying everybody with this smoke on feet?

I was told that this noisy smoke comes from a solo quest. So, why isn't this quest fixed yet? And why do I need to listen to noises from other player's quests? I'm pretty sure I don't have that quest activated.

By the way, I think one easy solution for this and even for the Coldharbour Recall noise, could be to mute the players that we add to the ignore list. It would be perfect!

Today I was able to record one player standing still using the noisy thing that I've been reporting: https://jmp.sh/g0FVbBdw

Lately, whenever I enter the game I end up having to always deactivate the sound on my headphones, because there is always one or more players with this noisy thing that can be heard even from a great distance.

Please fix this problem. I've been told it's caused by a bugged quest, but I don't even understand what it is yet. Anyway, it should have no sound or be heard only by the person using it. There's no reason to force one player's useless noise into everyone else's game.

You may not know, but when you use this thing, all other players are forced to hear the noise it makes for no reason at all. For those who use headphones it is really unbearable and the only solution is to turn off all sound effects just because of something completely useless for the game.

This problem really should be solved. Some players in my guild say it's a quest bug. I don't mind the visual effect at all, although I find it unpleasant, but the sound shouldn't be forced on other players. At least the sound should be disabled or only heard by those who use it.

Then they also should disable the trumpet one. That one is way more annoying.

I see. So, why's everybody forced to hear the noise of someone else's incomplete quest? It's clearly a bug and should be fixed. I'm constantly hearing the noise from that quest everywhere, sometimes from multiple players, and I'm not in group with them or participating in that quest.

Btw... I have a few incomplete quests on my journal too, as probably most players. Now imagine if every player's incomplete quests had noise forced on every other player. It's absurd. The insanity of the noise from Coldharbour Recall and stuff like the trumpets already mentioned above should be enough. We also don't need incomplete quests making useless noise to ruin other players' games. This is an MMO, it should be much more careful with this kind of useless annoying stuff, it's a game aimed for all types of players and not just for those who like pyrotechnics and noise.

This problem is getting completely out of hand on PC EU server. Even in the late hours of the morning, we can't use a single city in the game without being permanently disturbed by many players forcing that unbearable humming noise on other players headphones.

Can someone tell me exactly which quest causes that humming noise so that this bug can be reported in better detail?

Why are you trying to take away people’s fun? People don’t use this effect to annoy you or force anything on you; they use it because they like the way it looks with their characters. To the best of my knowledge, the quest itself has already been fixed (I tried to replicate the bug on my Necromancer months ago, because it would have suited him nicely, but was unable to replicate the bug via the usual means). Anyone still using the quest effect today probably has been doing so for years and activated it long before the fix, meaning ZOS would likely have to debug on an individual character by character basis. At least you can rest easy knowing that new players can’t use the bug.

I suspect a lot of people don't notice the sound, so they have no idea it's a problem for anyone else.

Maybe it's because I'm using speakers instead of headphones but when I was watching that video clip I had to turn the sound up far louded than I'd ever normally have it to hear anything more than a quiet, low rumble. I agree that if you're playing it at a loud volume it could get annoying after a while, but at the volume I normally have my PC and ESO I doubt I'd ever notice it.

I’ve noticed the sound before myself, but it doesn’t bother me one bit. Don't get me wrong... I just want the sound effect to be muted. Otherwise, I don't care. It's not in my interest to have anyone's fun taken away. Look... if you use that thing and only you hear the humming noise, no one has taken away your fun. Or is the fun for you that others hear it constantly without any need?

I'm just talking about the noise, that's all. Many players probably don't even know where this humming noise is coming from, it still took me some time to figure out the origin. I've noticed that it doesn't get in the way much on speakers, but I have to play with headphones, and on headphones it's extremely disturbing, especially when you have several players with this thing active. And at least on the EU PC server the players using it seem to be increasing.

Those sounds you mentioned are absolutely terrible too, but unfortunately those are development mistakes and not bugs, so, they'll probably never fix those. But I would pay s lot of crowns to disable all those unneeded noises from other players, so I could enjoy the game peacefully.
