Question to Modders: Is it possible to make an AH using mod tools?

Obviously the traditional, "Give the item to the AH until it sells," wouldn't work. Is it possible however to make an in-game posting board that's run and kept in a mod and connected to an outside server of some kind that keeps track of it? I'm totally unfamiliar with the modding tools for this game so I have no idea if this is feasible.

SO here's how I envision it.
-You pull up the mod.
-You post Dreugh Wax (20) in the mod.
-It uploads it with your @.
-Someone searches Dreugh Wax and sees your listing on the board.
-He/she contacts you.
-You make the trade.
-You pull it down when you sell it.

I know there are forums right now, but I'm wondering if we can take that same functionality and add it in game, making it a little more dynamic in the process. (Since Zeni seems determined to run their game into the ground)

Well, you couldn't ensure sales/transactions, but it could function kind of like a hybrid between ebay and craigslist maybe. Basically what you described could work. It seems like it could be used for scamming, or at least wasting people's time. Also, who would devote the needed resources to host the backend?

Ya. I mean it would just be a posting board, I realize that. Is it doable though?

The person who maintains it could throw a x day timer on it. If something doesn't sell in x time you have to repost it because the mod automatically takes it down.

That would take care of people being too lazy to take down their posts.

It depends on what options the API allows for remote data transfer. If the API allows the player to retrieve some remote data (like JSON, XML, or even plain text could be parsed) then I don't see why this couldn't be done.

You still have to work out who is going to host the servers for the backend of the mod.

The day we get an AH in the game will be too late to save this game, IMHO.

People are leaving in droves over the bad economy and other bad systems in ESO.

It makes me sad, because I will quit the day ESO goes to F2P.

An aweful lot of speculation in that post blackwidow

Guys, I'd rather not have this discussion in this thread. There are plenty about it out there already.

What I want to talk about in this thread is whether or not an AH can be created with mod tools. This could be a huge deal. I'd gladly host this if someone else can get it working.

So many are leaving that there now appears to be a login queue...

Wildstar will take some. Destiny will as well. The new WoW expansion will. Until then though you won't see any huge drop in population. Even after those I fully expect this to maintain a healthy number.

I don't know that the lack of AH is really a main contributor to people leaving. I also don't know that people are leaving in droves, or what even how many players a drove counts as.

I might look into working on it. I've been looking for a mod to create for once. Mods are fairly trivial for my experience, but seems like fun. Of course, I'll have to decide if I really want to resubscribe just for that purpose.

    There's a login Q?

    Never seen it.

I just heard about Destiny yesterday. It looks a lot like Firefall to me, with better gameplay. That said, I think the colors look too vibrant for my taste. I'm not a fan of bright, vivid colors I guess. Bright red gun? Bright purple clothing? (I watched the gameplay trailer)

Basically, you could try to implement something like this, but you would need... a lot of work. 6 months. To get it to hang together.

Actually, while I don't want an in-game AH--something like this--a global "bulletin board" kind of thing, would be a pretty good addition.

It sounds a lot like Craigslist to me. I don't think it's a bad idea, but it could lead to players getting the run around trying to track down a seller. They could, for example, have to contact 50 people before they found a seller that still had the item for sale.

I just think it might be lighter on the servers, while providing some of the global market convenience of an AH while preserving the quasi-social element.

But, yeah, dealing with all the "sorry, already sold it" could be the show stopper. A short expiration time, and a way to update the posting to show the item's been sold, might take most of the problem away. Those that don't bother to update when the item is sold will get unwanted contacts, and incur the wrath of the annoyed. Not a perfect system, by any means, but...I dunno. Kind of realistic, social-ish and hands-on.

You really should have put this in the Add On / UI Forum, since this has absolutely nothing to do with Customer Support.

A 3 day max would fix those problems. And showing how long something has been up would help too.

Really it would be nice if you could count on posters to do as they are supposed to. Perhaps some system to punish people who don't do it by restricting their access if they're found not following the rules? That sounds complicated. Really just getting it running would be a huge first step.

Not a bad idea. The seller should be able to mark that an item is sold as soon as he gets contacted by a serious buyer I suppose. Then, if the buyer backs out, he could unmark the listing as sold. That might work out just fine to be honest.

--a global "bulletin board" kind of thing, would be a pretty good addition.

Exactly. Have a couple of bulletin boards set up around these marketplaces.

Long time ago I tested Vindictus. Bulletin boards worked great in that game.

    Simple, and effective.

Ultima Online had bulletin boards...a few people used them, but not many. Of course Ultima Online didn't have a mail system for a very long time.

They had little bulletin boards outside of the inns. There were bounty boards too. They looked identical.

If ZOS allowed the modding API to achieve this, it would be a matter of minutes before the gold sellers created a version of the mod that siphoned gold off of every transaction to feed their habits, assuming the mod developers don't beat them to the punch.

How would that work exactly? The mod can't manage sales. All it can do is list items for sale. It has nothing to do with the actual transaction.

No actual gold or items would be managed by this mod. It would just be a way to connect sellers and buyers. Something this game is lacking sorely right now.
