Having been aware of this change now for a couple of months I can confidently say it makes changing costumes so much easier and I would vote to keep the change in place.

It would be nice if they gave us a toggle to show animations or not show animations, as some of us are just not fans of this kind of thing.

I'd rather they not have them spend dev time on toggles for such miniscule issues.

Then just don't attach animations to things that don't really need them.

Who decides when they are needed? As a roleplayer I liked the touch of immersion. Was it the most immersive animation possible? No, but it was something. I'm assuming this animation was a thing for years, and as far as I'm aware I've never seen any complaints or nitpicking about it until today.

Didn't Isobel use the same animation randomly when idle? Or was that a different one?

I've also noticed the disappearance of this stupid animation - another QoL on the part of ZOS. GOOD.

Yeah. This animation was part of the game for years and they previously agreed not to make these types of cosmetic changes. For that reason alone, I think it should be restored.

Could argue the harvesting animations aren't needed either. Yet them made extras of those.

I didn't mind the costume changing animation. Actually, it's an example of one of those "invisible" animation designs, because when designed properly, it shouldn't stand out as emphatic or flashy. It's something that makes your character feel more animated or alive, and should look as natural as breathing.

One upside to removing animations like these is that doing so will optimize memory usage. However, remove too many, and the characters begin to feel stiff and artificial. Remember how with certain Personalities (like Deadlands Firewalker, Beast, Zombie, etcetera), there are many different idle animation loops that are blended between when your character is in the idle movement state, which you can access directly with /idle2, /idle3, /idle4, and so on? If there was only one idle animation loop for each Personality, it might not look terrible, but the character may seem much more stiff in comparison.

In the context of the costume changing animation being removed, it's true that the end result doesn't look terrible. Maybe some people never noticed it to begin with, so maybe the performance gain was worth the quality tradeoff. Games which strive to feel fluid should have many of these invisible animations, but sometimes the game in question wants to feel more like a video game rather than feel immersive. I'd argue that because there is no longer an animation for changing costumes (or for changing your skin, body markings, etcetera) that these actions should be considered out of character.

There are 2 things that concern me most about this:

That they just remove it without any notice and did not give a statement about this so far although people have been asking.

That, if it really is about technical reasons like memory issues, they remove a fairly normal animation, but introduce more and more flashy or weird ones (of course, usually monetized through the crown store) at the same time. I'd rather see my characters change clothes, open doors and move while idle than have them (potentially) harvest mats by using a groundhog, floodwave or the ancestral ghost of aunt Dovrosi.

That's exactly my point. They aren't needed, but at least those are optional. The costume changing animation always irritated me so I'm glad it's gone.
