Coming back to ESO, I had no idea you can make good hybrid builds now

One of my main issues Ive always had with ESO is that magicka abilities do damage based on how much magicka you have and stamina abilities do damaged based on stamina. I felt this has always taken away from what Elder Scrolls is. In most Elder Scrolls games, you almost always end up being a battlemage.

For a casual player like me, who 90% of the time does overworld dungeons, and 5% pvp and 5% dungeons, is it safe to say I can do things like, make a full magicka sorcerer and when I am out in the open world I can pull mobs with a spell and when they get close, smack them with a 2-hander and it wont hit like wet noodle anymore?

The big question
, does this apply to BASIC 2 mouse light click attacks? Meaning is it scaling damage based of magicka or does this happen ONLY for abilities and not light and heavy attacks? Ive searched and cant find this.

    Yes, mostly everything you can think of scales dynamically including light attacks, so use any weapon you want.

    There is only a handful of skills that don't scale dynamically and will usually specify what they scale from like Hardened Ward from Sorc which scales from HP or Magicka, not Stamina.
    • Whatever your highest weapon or spell penetration is.
    • Whatever your highest weapon or spell damage is.
    • Whatever your highest weapon or spell crit chance is.

    These all happen independently. So you could use higher spell crit than weapon crit coupled with higher weapon damage/penetration than spell weapon/spell pentation.

    NB/Sorc and DK/Templar still provide separate minor group buffs. Example, a Sorc can get minor spell crit, so it's best to find a way to get major spell crit instead of major weapon crit. That means you slot Camo Hunter or use Spell Power Potions even if you're a Stam Sorc (if you can afford losing the stam regen from pots).

    Skills give both buffs together, sets give both buffs and stats together, potions do not right now unfortunately. They haven't yet completed Hybridization changes so potions are in a weird place.

    Mundus stones are weird too. Thief/Lover/Shadow all give both spell/weapon variations of their stats, but Warrior/Apprentice do not for Weapon/Spell Damage. It's best to stay away from these as it just complicates your build.

    All sources of Regeneration and Max Resources are still independent. So you won't really find them both on a stat line or food for free. If it is given, it's done so with the entire set/food balance in mind, where as crit/pen/damage are basically considered the same for spell/weapon weighted values until they inevitably just combine and rename them like they did for "armor" and "offensive penetration". This is 1 of the reasons in PVP I favour using a monster shoulder piece with 129 mag AND 129 stam regen, it gives twice the value when you normally have to sacrifice something to get both sources.

    CP passives for Magical/Martial damage types are separate, but you end up getting all of it anyway..

    Someone posted interview responses from the developers and mentioned Provisioning/Alchemy getting more hybridization updates in the near future. 😅 Maybe not as much as one would hope for finishing, but still another step. I just want them to remove some excessive recipes from the game. Provisioning is way more complicated for no reason...

    You could really extend that view point to any of the crafting skill lines because it's a relic of what the game was before One Tamriel added scaling, removing vet areas.

    Why do we need 10 different metal, wood, and leather materials from lv 1-50 and CP 1-160, when you spend 99.99% of your time in ESO at CP160+. Anyone who's a vet to the game can level from 1-CP160 in 1 day, and not the whole day, just within that day, could be a few hours.

    So 100s of different recipes and materials just taking up space in guild stores, loot tables, crafting bag, banks, I'm guessing it has some level of impact on the server load.

    In my opinion, if they want to look ahead for 10+ years they need to remove all lv 1-CP150 unique materials and just use end game materials with new quantity requirements. Similar to how they buffed Jewelry Crafting recently by removing dust and just converting the amount of plates everyone has.

    Aka lv 1 item could be 1 Rubedite, lv 15 takes 30 to craft, but cp 160 items could be 200 to craft. Fixed.

    Sounds pragmatic, might lose a lot of flavour tho. There is still a difference if a rare tomato soup recipe is refined with carrots or with extra tomatoes.

    You dont make good hybrid builds now either.. You still put all your stats in one attribute depending on the content you do or your just hamstring yourself into a worse position. Putting 1-2 magicka abilities on a stamina character can hardly be considered "strong hybrid builds". People can of course split thier resources up however they want for RP feels but functionally its just weakening yourself for nothing. DPS stack mag or stam, tanks and PVP stack health. Its not actually hybrid.....

    You can but unfortunately it is now too easy to make a hybrid. For me, it spoils the flavor of playing a hybrid .when everyone else is playing a hybrid now.

    Well the entire reason we even attempted making hybrids back then was to experience a bit of both worlds, to have flexibility to have a magicka heal as a stam build or play melee as a magicka build. Most stam builds felt very dry, very little skill diversity and flexibility with a high reliance on weapon skills making every stam class feel the same as the next. We can do what we want now without being categorized as a 3rd, lower tier, "hybrid" option, that has to sacrifice way too much to use an off resource skill or 2.

    I'm just happy to use what I want, I don't care if it's popular or if it's niche, I don't want to be shoehorned into playing green or blue because reasons. So if that means hybrids aren't a thing anymore because everyone is a hybrid, than I'm all for it.

    That said, they have yet to properly balance class identity via the morph choices making a lot of skill morphs just obvious go to decisions which is very unfortunate. I feel like oddly enough, Sorc is in 1 of the best places in terms of making mag vs stam variants feeling different.. while Arcanist is the complete other side of the spectrum with the only right way to play them as stam imo.
