The eye tilt is one minor thing that doesn't annoy me that much, personally. And Eveli doesn't even look bad in that trailer. But how is this an Altmer face? She shape alone is much too rounded:

Eyes are wrong, too, with the iris being much too small. And with Dunmer, it gets even worse:

There's not even one thing right about her. Some people even thought she was supposed to be an orc.

Maybe knocked out during a fight. No, seriously: To me, she doesn't look orc, but I've seen more than one comment thinking she was, in discussions after the Necrom trailer was published.

I think this is all cinematic trailers except Gold Road. Make Popcorn, sit back and watch the closest we will all get to an TES movie or TV show.

Thanks for the link! That's quite the compilation; it's nice to see them all stitched together like that for an easy re-watch. That Breton guy sure has gone through quite the story arc; I find him the most compelling of the three.

Wish my sorceress could fling around magic like the Altmer character--she seems to be a class unto herself, what with her magic and her sword. Just a tiny bit envious of her abilities.

I honestly thought the elf in the Summerset trailer was Queen Ayrenn when I first saw it. I would not expect to associate anything in a cinematic trailer to my own character, so I assumed it was one of the npc characters and that was the first one I thought of, naturally.

I guess the devs assumed that players would create an elf character to do the story line but before AWA I always used my main toon and she’s a Khajiit. Still do now in fact.

I think the trailer characters are supposed not only to represent the different factions, but also to appeal to different bigger demographics. A Nord for the huge "viking" fanbase, one elf for all people who love elves (they probably thought a young Altmer woman would appeal to most), and... a Breton. For... people who like Bretons, I guess. :p It's sad in a way that there's no Khajiit or Argonian, but that's a problem of wanting to appeal to the mainstream, probably.

Note that the characters also represent the typical roleplay archetypes: One warrior, one mage, one thief.

The three heroes are stand ins for your character. You are supposed to imagine your own character in their place. Its a very clever storytelling-device.

Never worked for me, to be honest. All I see is one big human, one small human and a LotR elf woman running through some action scene that's roughly related to the new chapter in terms of scenery (and sometimes there's an opponent character that we'll meet during the storyline).

To me as a roleplayer it doesn't work at all because the whole thing doesn't even really look TES most of the time. Could be an ad for every other fantasy game. Also, I can't relate to the characters in any way; they also don't look much like any character I'd create (and for the ones wondering: yes, I also have non-Dunmer characters).

I was always able to project, be it with books, games or other media. But everyone feels art differently. thats the beauty of it.
What I cant understand is why you think the Trailers are generic. For me they are distinctively Elder Scrolls. And I have played all games since Daggerfall when they released.

I don't think it's about not being able to project, actually I'm always wondering about people who say they can't relate to a character from a novel or tv series because of they don't share the same gender or even race, because that doesn't matter to me at all. I've also played all TES games since Arena (okay, I have to admit I was still a child when Arena was published, so it wasn't comparable to later gaming experiences, but I watched my father play and we discussed what to do next in the story; and I also replayed both Arena and Daggerfall later, when I was older). What in the trailers looks typical TES to you? I'd like to understand.

The high Fantasy feeling. The casual nature of magic and the ebb and flow of appearances of Daedra/Dwemer/Werewolves and Vampires. And the Heroes with their high fantasy-power of killing pretty much anything in their Wake singlehandedly. Just like we can in TES-Games.
TES-Heroes are not normal. We are literal godkillers. In ESO we can do 100k DPS. Which means every enemy just explodes when youre looking at them funny. Endbosses from expansions normally dont even last long enough to say their opening line before dying.
In Skyrim you can oneshot everything at the end with the right build.

Sadly, this is likely true. I resigned myself to not being able to do one-hand and spell flinging awhile ago, but there's always hope for good beards, isn't there? I never use the current beard options on my male toons because I don't care for the bearded look--at most I'll use the closer shaven stylized options.

      It wasn't always that bad

      beat-reichenbach-wasp-0010.jpg?1601007874

But quality indeed dropped down below the ground since Morrowind, probably to cater more to non tes people with more humane looks.

It's more likely that Blur Studio just reuses human rigs/models/assets in all their cinematics.

CGI is expensive, and it's likely a lot easier/less time consuming for all the people in the trailers to have regular old eyes instead of super stylized elven eyes. Just a guess, but I'd put my money on that being the case over a deliberate style change to feel more "human".

The only thing that's mer about them is their ears.

ESO and fanart can only make elves look good by making them look more human :D

I think mer are a lot more attractive when they look like mer 🤷
Agreed, they're not as good without the elven eyes and ears. The eyes should be like this:
      new-elder-scrolls-online-gates-of-oblivion-chapter-announced_ehmu.1200.jpg

Those are bosmer pupils, the other mer doesn't have ones like that, and the eyes are still a bit too human. The irises are too small and the eyes are not slanted enough.
The altmer and dunmer in the trailers are much worse, though, because their eyes are even more human and they don't even have angular, sharped featured faces as altmer and dunmer have, more so than bosmer. Although I prefer bosmer to have angular faces too.

They did have special eyes for Eveli in the Blackwood trailer, though (and they also show effort when it comes to Argonians and daedra). And I don't expect anything super fancy for Dunmer either, just bigger irisses and an appropriate color (unlike those of the "Dunmer" woman in the Necrom trailer). I don't think it makes any difference technically if the eyes are green or blue or, how it should be, some shade of red/pink or gray.

Well, I played an Ashlander once. He was a hunter, nothing more.

When it comes to Daedric Princes, we might banish them for a while, but they're not destroyed. Dagoth Ur? Defeating him wasn't that much a question of our power, but of having the right tools to destroy his power source.

With every weapon more or less, if you've reached a high level (if was especially ridiculous with bow + extra sneak damage - a pity, actually, because nothing was challenging anymore).

It seems we have different things we consider typical for TES. For me, The Elder Scrolls is deep lore, interesting narrations, freedom of choice, huge portions of wilderness to explore, the fascination of discovering the remnants of ancient civilizations that were untouched for centuries,... And while I understand that some of these things might be hard to represent in a 3 minute trailer, some random people jumping through an action scene with screaming and things exploding definitively isn't what comes to my mind when I think of TES. There are fast and dramatic fights, of course, but TES - at least in the way I play the games - also has many rather calm and slow moments. Sneaking through a ruin, trying to avoid traps, staying in the shadows and carefully looking around corners to spot enemies. Wandering the landscape and enjoying the scenery. Sitting down in a warm tavern after a long fight. Longer dialogues filled with interesting lore. It's more than just running and killing everything (if it was that, I could also play an Ego Shooter game without much story, focussing only on shooting everything that moves). But then, I also never understood the "power fantasy" thing that some people seem to enjoy. I don't even know why I would need such a thing.

Probably it's hard to include everything people consider typical for TES in such a short trailer. But then, at least the characters should look like they are actually TES characters. Which the elves don't.

Cinematic trailers like these are pretty and probably cost a lot to make, but I don’t really get into them. I guess they are supposed to evoke a certain feeling about the game, but they do not show actual gameplay. That is what I really want to see when I watch a game trailer - actual gameplay. Especially a trailer for a game I have not played. I saw that Diablo 4 went this route too so maybe it’s just the new thing.
