I'm genuinely surprised people would be happy with an animation being removed from the game. It's not even about the specific animation, which I personally couldn't care less about, it's about the principle of cutting out elements of the game, specifically the minor elements that smooth the edges of it being just pixels and programming. As someone pointed out why not remove mount animations, door animations, why bother walking. We could just float in space towards our destination.

I'm disappointed for the other players who like the animation, and wouldn't cheer the removal of something that means little to me, but more to others. I bite my thumb at the people in this thread who chortle and chide in response.

It's not a good a sign that they would feel the need to remove some interstitial animation to improve performance of the game, while at the same time adding crown store versions of base game animations. How about removing the sheathe weapon animation while they're at it, which they needlessly made long and unavoidable when interacting with objects with Blackwood.

I really do hope this is a bug. The alternative is lame.

I hope it's a bug, imagine swapping weapons without an animation, or unsheathing or putting away weapons without animation. I like the costume change animation. Little details make the world seem more alive. I like seeing people in zone going through that animation as they change costumes, let's me know what they are doing and enjoying the changes their character is going through. People who just want to axe animations to speed up game play (which I doubt this does) why not play something else you can speed race through if you don't like immersion? ESO was based on the most immersive franchise in the gaming industry, don't take that away.

I'm hoping it's a bug that will get fixed.

Removing (or changing) animations that were fine for years is a bad move in my book. If it's intended, at least give those among us the option to toggle it back on.
One an unrelated note: A toggle that let's switch between the old and new animations for Flurry and Jabs would be nice too :)

If it's not a bug, then the next to go will probably be seeing people digging around in a bag, kneeling in front of a treasure chest, etc. They've been slowly chipping away at the neat little animations... removing werewolf emotes, hiding other players' skill effects from us and such.... and yet we still have gender locked dances.

@ZOS_Kevin , is this a bug, or "working as intended?"

Not to mention how the bloodstain visual effect was removed from werewolves after devouring a corpse, and from the corpse that was being devoured. I remember reading about how proud of that feature the developers were. I hope that feature returns in TES VI.

If any other visual effects start being trimmed out, I wouldn't be surprised to see the bloodstains from feeding as a vampire or killing with the Blade of Woe being removed eventually.

I'm not a big fan of the animation personally. But I'm even less of a fan of things like this being removed without at explanation.

If it's a bug or a performance improvement then that's fair enough. If it's a case of being annoying, I agree with @Kendaric that there should at least be a toggle.

      No please @Stanx

This thread is exclusively meant for the reinstating of a removed animation.

If the animation gets restored and then if you dont like it you can make your own separate thread requesting a toggle. I'm so sick of simple bugs not being adressed here on the forums just because some people suddenly want a toggle or another intricate solution (which causes the devs to not want to burn their fingers on the topic).

Please dont let this become the new overland difficulty/Grim Focus permaglow thread.

It's rather simple: Is the costume animation ever going to be restored? If not, why not? @ZOS_kevin

It seems a little weak if they removed animations like that for 'performance issues', yet keep introducing things like new mounts with flashier effects all the time, and even worse if they HAVE to prune animations so that the CAN sell new mounts with flashier effects.

      Edit: for a speeling error.

Fit the server and the processing capacity to the game, not the game to the capacity.

I still remember seeing the animation the first time i had to put on a disguise, i thought it was charming.

The animation then equipping an costume is very nice, the annoying part was that it was repeated every time you loaded into an zone.

Because little things like the costume change animation are what makes ESO immersive and a lot of people play ESO to be immersed in Tamriel. Not everyone cares about efficiency, builds or MMO features and for us immersive animations matter.

Also it was removed without any prior notice as to why this would be done.

Because if this is not a glitch, it means ZOS is willing to scrape the games immersion factor down, whittling away at it little by little, for the sake of "performance" or whatever other excuse arises when players object to their choices.

We have seen them crunch things down just to cram more in before. It is a shame that long established aspects of the game which appeal to people who actually take the time to appreciate them are being removed for the sake of those who are impatient and want instant gratification.

The polish of the game, and it's charm, are within the little details. Take them away and you might as well be playing one of the countless souless cookie cutter mmo's out there.

It may seem insignificant, but what you really need to be asking is: If they are willing to take this small detail away, what bigger aspects of the game might they also be willing to chop out?

A very important aspect to consider given the track record of recent years.

I'd guess it's a bug, it would be rather odd of them to remove an animation like that and not mention it in notes somewhere.
I rarely use costumes so didn't even realize the animation was missing.

I doubt it was intentionally removed "for performance", that doesn't make sense. Animation for costume change would be a client-side function, the only data the server would be sent is a variable update something like "currentCostume=WoodenBarrel" or whatever.

So likely something got accidentally disabled, but it would be nice to hear from @ZOS_Kevin if he knows if it was intentional or not. :)

Let's remove the door opening animation too since we encounter so many doors and so we can open them faster. And remove the mounting animation too while were at it, let's just intantly get teleported on top of our mounts! /s

In my opinion it's a cool animation that adds flavor to the game, why remove it?

To be fair I really want the door opening animation removed.

Fair point even though I never found it very immersive. Especially since it repeated every time we zoned. The only one I liked was Dro Mathra skin.

I think they have trying to eliminate useless content.

this is the same game that puts useless, yet interactable books on crafting stations - so when you go to craft, you click 'E" - and the stupid book opens up.

There's a whole lot of useless interaction animations they could remove if they wanted to.

@Jaraal Yeah, to treat your customers with respect and dignity by offering an explanation is just just too much to ask.. I though i'd wait a month or two before reviving this thread. If this keeps up you'll see me in two months again!

@MidniteOwl1913 Yes, that's the animation were talking about. Some people were saying they didn't mind the animation being removed and i made the sarcastic remark to remove more animations from the game. It's just a sidetrack the main focus of this thread is figuring out if this is bug or removed on purpose. Only @ZOS_Kevin can tell us.

As someone who likes to switch in an out of their costume, while entering a city for example, i miss the animation more and more..
