I wonder if those are hacked accounts, from idiot players who tried to buy gold and got keylogged. I have yet to see any VR1 bots in starting zones yet.

raglau✭✭✭✭✭ZOS do have a genuine problem in this area. In the EU, banning access to the service\product without offering a refund could make them fall afoul of local consumer protection laws.
It's not a given, the consumer laws around digitally sourced goods and when those goods become a service is grey and currenty being rewritten. But because it's grey, most larger companies are very wary of even risking falling afoul of them.
Make no mistake, the protection we have in the UK is superb from a consumer perspective but as someone who also operates businesses in the UK, those laws can be very difficult for a business to navigate.Altissimus wrote: »Spot on.

I attacked this particular user because he attacked a constructive thread I opened earlier with basically the exact same comment. It didn't make sense then. It doesn't make sense now.
I get that you missed that. That's okay. Resorting to name calling and trying to peg me for some ulterior motive, despite the fact that I've backed up YOUR stances specifically in multiple threads (if I'm a troll, what does that say about you?), is not constructive. You're probably mistaken me for the various other trolls that frequent these forums. Or maybe you misunderstood me in one of my foolish rants against some of the trolls who try to derail every thread.

But the more I think about it and read about the issue, I am convinced the only way to deal with the problem is remove the gold-farmer's profit, by ZOS themselves selling gold for cash and undercutting them and making it risk free for buyers.
Personally I would not ever buy gold and I also think it's a slippery slope to a game becoming pay to win, but I don't see any other methods to reliably deal with botting and farming. All technical changes we can assume the farmers will code around at some point. And banning is an ongoing and resource intensive process.

Alpha_Protocol✭✭✭This sad fact, which I happen to agree is a fact of modern gaming, leads me to believe the only way to eliminate bots is to take over the market, by ZOS selling gold for cash themselves. I hate such a tactic and like to work my way up, but having observed the problems many games face, I've been persauded it's the only plausible way of eliminating botting and farming.
Any black market brought on by a form of prohibition is only ever lifted by re-opening the market and thereby wiping out the illicit traders.
The fact is, the game currently suffers from gold selling anyway but also the botting\farming ills, if ZOS sold the gold, it would only suffer from the former. So it's a lesser of two evils trade-off.
Gold farmers would just sell it cheaper.0 -
