Toll of Dying

I am veteran rank-4 and I hate one thing about ESO, and one only: Soul Gem requirement for resurrections. This *** happened before with SWTOR, where you needed to wait for 30 secs to rez, for second rez 2 mins and for 3rd one 10 mins and so on. At the end you just stopped waiting for that and respawned miles away back. It was so unbearable and frustrating that I left the game - small thing that killed the game for me.

Doesn't matter how many awesomeness game offers there, they can be in MILLIONS. 2-3 *** features who make the game unbearable are more than enough to make you HATE it, even abandon it altogether. That's where UX (user experience) branch of QA team comes to play. Zenimax's UX branch is GARBAGE!!!

Everytime I die in a very very very long dungeon/cave with tons of mobs (which I had to kill to come almost to the end), it resets me to the entrance. What kind of travesty is this?! As if it's not enough we have to pay 1500-2000 golds - which can't sustain itself - we have to get Grand Soul Gems God knows from where.

ZOS: Stop this idiocy at once and change rez mechanics so that we can rez where our characters die. Or at least make soul gem acquisition much cheaper and easier. It's impossible to continue like this!!!

I'm not really sure what you're bitching about. Are you mad because you have to rez when you die? Or are you mad because you have to use soul gems to rez in your current spot? If they let you rez right where you died all the time, nobody would even try to stay alive. I mean, what would the point be?

Indeed, I'm not sure what the problem is supposed to be.

Also, there's a World passive that you can put a couple of points into that will allow a 'rezz in place' without needing a Gem once an hour. Not every 5 minutes, true, but if you're dying so many times it's an issue then something's badly wrong and I'm not at all sure it's the game that's wrong.

Yeah I put two points into that soul passive so I can res for freeeeeeeee every hour. I don't die THAT often that I even hardly need to use gems, but the few times I do die, usually once is enough to complete whatever is killing me at the moment.

I think the death system is pretty easy going overall, especially compared to some other games.

Heh, until the VR ranks I'd agree with the replies, in the final VR of my first area I am starting to see it more like the OP. I used to mostly harvest gems enough to keep slightly ahead of my death rate since recently it has gone much the other way and that is with the passive ability that fills the occasional gem from straight up combat.

I put points in that. The thing badly wrong with my character is that I thought DW NB sounded really great, didn't realise half the actives are bugged even so far as to sometimes lock your character up so you can't even do a light attack with your weapons. Dying is usually inevitable when that happens, although sometimes mashing back and forth quickly into one of the menu UI pages can unlock you.

I got the 1-hour passive, but sometimes when i try to do something nuts, i die more than once in a hour. Way more than once :)

Anyway, buying an empty gem from mystic and filling it with next mob is not that much of a pain either.

I have learned to gather empty gems in the world from chests and fill them myself, so the cost of resurrections is nothing at all for me.

I remember in FFXI online you would lose XP when you died. The higher your level, the more XP you would lose. You could even level down.

Perhaps the OP would prefer this?

Is this a troll post? Cause grand soul gems are plentiful and you can rez yourself on the spot anytime. The only penalty of dying is a little money.

Would you like god mode as well?

I would. That's the way old EQ worked, and it made things much more exciting and tense. Being deep in a zone you were "just" leveled up enough to be in, then dying, and leveling down losing that level's skills. Then you had to naked retrieve your corpse, and get out without the skills you had getting in. Or beg for a cleric to help. Good times. Seriously.

I know stuff like that sounds like a huge pain to a lot of new players, but it pretty much guaranteed a few thrills every time you played, and just made the game more of an adventure with consequences than a walk through.

Even with all the "horrible" things mentioned in the OP, death is not much more than a very temporary inconvenience in this game and pretty much all other current MMOs, which tends to kill excitement and tension and becomes just a frustration, for me at least. Actually wish it was more painful to die or had no consequences at all. This in-between stuff is just annoying.

    Course, I'm not a DW NB, :)

yep, when i run low, i just buy a wad of empty soul gems, and hit the next few mobs with the soul trap.

i find the toll of dying to be worse on my change purse.
This is all part of the game.

Pretty much. Or spend to points into the soul skill passive that gives you a free respawn once per hour.

I will still look across the lands from my perch at Arrius, Nerf or no I will still be the Night. I may not be the hero Ebonheart Pact wanted but I will be the hero Ebonheart pact deserves.

    LOL....

All I can say to that...

Soul trapping is a very common thing and it's what everyone is doing. I have not spent a single gold ever on soul gems from merchants. Every soul gem regardless of filled or empty I acquire comes from locked chest or mob drop.

Not sure why you're even complaining about something fundamental.

UO OG here, too. I don't know what percentage of my inability to really get into today's games is due to my being older, and what percentage is due to my observation that they are making everything progressively easier. It will be an interesting world to live in in the next hundred or so years...

This is all part of the game.

Hehe, while reading this list, I began to really think on how the rez system really is pretty easy on us. I mean we just pay for a break in our equipment, or maybe use a soul gem. I have to admit I rather like it. But I just don't have the gumption to want to do the naked run anymore.
Especially if I were to die in Cyrodil.

OP should give thanks this is not Ultima Online, where if you died you came back as a ghost and had to hike all the way to your corpse, hoping nobody had found it and looted it

PvP I think has to be treated differently (and much more lightly) then PvE deaths.

Yes, that would be logical. LOL I sound like Spock. But I don't see them doing that. If they change it in PvE they would most likely have it the same in PvP.
Eh, no matter, the death thing is pretty easy and I really don't want it to change.

If your character dies, you should lose everything. Then you should have to start all over at character creation, after a ten-day "You Suck" cool-off period.

Ok how about this, you die, your pet cat eats your face immediately without pausing to mourn your death (because that's what cats do), a pack of wolves runs by and pees on your corpse (and the cat), you respawn in a completely different MMO, your doorbell rings and a representative of Zenimax bashes you in the kneecaps with a hammer, and your internet gets turned off for 4 days.

I'm serious about this, Zenimax, make it happen! ;)

i seem to get enough on level gems just by working the quests and dungeons for my level. soul trapping them can be a pita but it only takes a few minutes to charge em up and go about your day.

what i wish is a reduced cost for healers to res.... as it stands now, unless i have a ton of gems to spare I leave em dead where they lay.
