Factotums uses a soul gem, thereby someone or something's soul, to function. Most dwemer automatons are also powered by soul gems. But their bodies and "programming" are completely of Sotha Sil's making, it's not the soul's from the soul gem, of that there is no trace. Factotums are robots that uses a soul gem as a battery, meanwhile cybermen are cyborgs, they are highly modified people and still has organic parts in them, albeit few.

well i dont ascribe to people having souls and all this sould gem mess. people are souls they dont have souls.
people are made from the dust of the ground and the breath of life and when those two things are combined by their creator then they become a living soul. another word for breah of life might also be metabolism in the scientific sense. that breath of life or the ability to metabolize is a power source not an underlying intelligence. though the creation of such a power source requires an intelligence far beyond anyone on this planet is capable of designing.

It is not clear if they are powered directly by the energy of the soul or by some kind of harmonic resonance with the energies contained in the soul gem.
