This also means say there's a problem that only affects PC, the Xbox version would have to be taken down for maintenance and patched even if the problem doesn't exist on Xbox just so they match.

Yes, at the moment PC and Xbox don't get the same patch data but what i am saying is bringing the game to Microsoft Store on PC (the Xbox version along with their servers, not the PC one). I don't see how there could be a problem on just one of the platforms that requies taking it down as long as both run on the same patch. Ark Survival does it and it works. Players that buy Ark through the Microsoft Store can crossplay with Xbox players but they are unable to crossplay with the players that buy it on steam. This imo is a quickfix for some players that are in the same situation as me. I cannot and will not buy another Xbox just to play your game when there is clearly a way to allow me to use it even from PC.
My girlfriend is in the same situation. She bought a steam deck because it's super easy to carry it around and she got rid of her Xbox. I believe there are alot more people in the same situation and i don't see any reason why not to add it on Microsoft Store. They are literally losing money by not doing so.
The problem is, that opens the game to easily exploitable access to third party applications enabling cheating through PC. On top of removing the semi level (different console generations but still a hard cap on performance capabilities) playing field console users have by having the same or extremely similar hardware. A PC player on a super high end spec is going to have an advantage that console users just cannot achieve.

1. Games already vulnerable to exploitation, why? It’s available on PC. Soo who cares, part of the duties of maintaining a MMO or any online game.
2. Obviously PC players have an advantage over console. I play crossplay games on both my Xbox and PC like Destiny 2. I have a 144hz monitor and easily get over 100fps consistently. I still play it more on my Xbox because I like controller for that game and ability to sit back in my recliner and have it up on the big screen wall mounted.
Crossplay means everyone can play together, the whole pc runs faster then console though argument is obviously a no brainer kinda duh. PvE people love they can play and make friends on all platforms specially when in a guild. PvP most games make crossplay optional when matchmaking.
3. For the no brainer comment about patches come out different times for different platforms etc. Obviousky crossplay they would update all platforms at the same time. Just like anyone else who has a crossplay game they would fix bugs for all platforms. Except Bungie, they just love to break crap.

Why are different console generations not a problem, but the difference between an Xbox and a high end PC is a problem? The difference between the Xbox One and the Series X is comparable to gaming PCs the same age as the consoles. Ok a brand new PC with all top-of-the-line components can get better performance than a Series X, but it's not going to change the fact that they're playing the same game. (Also the vast majority of PC gamers don't have the best possible PC, mine is only 2 years old and actually has lower specs than a Series X, partially because graphics cards were stupidly expensive.)
Also this suggestion is to allow the Xbox version of ESO to run on PCs, so addons would still be disabled like they are on Xbox.
It is available to exploitation on PC, exactly. Which means opening console players to that exploitation is absurd. No thank you.
Obvious PC advantage over console, which means opening console players to that disadvantage is ridiculous.
Everyone can play together. Irrelevant.
Patches being different is more than just timing, the infrastructure to run the game on different devices is more likely than not different and no amount of wishful thinking is going to resolve those differences in an equitable way.
I dont mind if PC players would have advantages over console player if crossplay would happen. I would just be happy for a bigger and alive community rather than a dead one.

True but there will always be people that are against crossplay because of addons. The bare minimum they could do is add ESO on Microsoft Store and allow PC players to crossplay with Xbox from there (with addons disabled).

They'd better make it optional. I am NOT going to mess with xbox crossplay losing my addons. Absolutely not. I have ZERO interest in crossplay in any case.

If they implement it in the Microsoft Store it would have nothing to do with your beloved PC server. All it would do is allow PC players to play on the Xbox server on PC with no addons, just like how Ark Survival servers work.

I looked into this, and it's a bit of a project to make it work the way you want.
For this to work, the Xbox version of the game would have be ported to PC since you're trying to play the Xbox version of ESO on PC which is what Ark did on the Microsoft Store to allow that version of crossplay. So it's not a matter of "just doing it", it's actually a big project to port a game from one platform to another, so in order to get what you want, it's not as simple as slapping the PC game into the MS store and letting it play on the Xbox servers.

So, it'd make a 3rd server for PC. PCNA, PCEU and PCXB?

No, the players that play it through the Microsoft Store would play it on the Xbox servers (XboxNA/EU). They are doing the same thing with Ark.

And as a console player, I have no intention of playing with players who have addons.

Everyone on Console would weep at the level of inflation the PC economy has.
