It's a long, LONG boring combat to get past this guy, and this is holding up my progress through the main quest line in Necrom. Is there a trick to this? Is there some way to get past this guy without having to spend an hour slowly whittling his hp down? Either I am missing something, or this quest is bugged.

    I noticed that too. Is that the problem? I'm hoping this gets fixed soon.

    When you first encounter them, go into sneak and you can get around them to the door without getting aggro. I did this with a companion, so maybe the mobs attention was on the companion.

    When I encountered them again, I got the companion to take aggro, then I ran toward the portal and went into sneak. Once you hide, you can go through the portals.

    mac, I took yor advice after fighting Gelkhai the Hunger for 15 minutes and getting dps numbers like 4, 7, 11 etc. and only getting him down to 85%. Went into sneak and used a stealh potion to become invisible the snuck behind and got thru the next door. You can't do this in dungeons - if you don't kill the boss the door just won't open.
    It's still a long confusing slog to get to your ultimate destination but you can see you are making progress.
