When you hit high level, have a lot of achievements and titles under your belt, it’s good to have a shiny mount to go with it. I wish there was more originality in their design however and rather than taking your existing effects and ramping them up on ‘roids, introducing some new, moderate effects would be refreshing. Examples such as the purple nord wolf radiant apex (though I hate the spikes that make you look like a weird Mohawk chicken).
I kind of wonder how long until the summon animations start including a literal orchestra, big red arrows pointing to the mount or a zone-wide notification.
Personally I do not buy them for the animations, but for their baseform. But some of the animations are absolutely amazing. However, the screenfilling animations sometimes bother me, as I can't see anything anymore, but they only last a second or two so it's fine. I wouldn't want them to change these animations as some players may have bought them specifically for these, and I wouldn't want anything(mounts/pets/cosmetics) I love get changed either.
And some mounts just have perfect triggered effects(stand still and hold space), and I use those whenever I use a mount that has these perfect ones. I actually didn't know about these for years, till someone on the forums told me about this. Thank you!
I have only seen one disco mount that looked cool...I understand ESO is "High Fantasy" but that's a bit too high for me. I personally prefer lower magic settings where there isn't a level 25 spell under every rock

One of the worst sound effects from these mounts for me was the senche from the celestial crates around the time dark convergence was very popular in PVP. So many bomb scares.
I like flashiness where it's reasonable and appropriate. The problem is...

Preamble: Sometimes I play this game while at my summer cottage which I share with family. I, as the family techie have installed various upgrades to this rather ancient home from a few hundred years ago, without impacting the structure.
Simply a good projector for visuals, a hefty sound sound system and a very capable network setup that can aggregate many inputs. The perfect place to play the Elder Scrolls Online IMHO
NB the over-loud speakers are integral to my work as a producer so to listen to work offline as my hearing/temperament is often affected by the annoying ambient sounds persistently extant in cities. (I hate sirens for a start) But I really like to enjoy my sound system extremely at high volumes as it's the nuances I'm really looking for.
In ESO: The superfluous and very over the top sound effects emanating from mere mounts is a very annoying recurring effect for me.
Something (a mount?) exploding in my vicinity (Wayshrine?) heard though my majestic sound-system triggers a fight or flight response in ones-self = EEEKKKK!!!! KILL THE INTRUDER!!!! FIGHT OR DIE!!!!

and then I realize that it was just a player mounting their Toy horse. I hate the fact that potentially good sound effects are used on trivial things like this.
Let me take the dripping saucy napkin from my blabbering mouth and rage against these mildly amusing and very annoying sound effects.
I have very good speakers for my computer so the loud noises on mounting up bother me quite a bit. Plus, as mostly a PvP player, I don't want someone from the other side of cyrodiil being able to see me mounting up. So I stick to the mounts that don't have bright animations or loud noises.
I am not a big fan of it myself, but it doesnt bother me
Someone mounted their brand new shiny heavy weight and it startled me so badly that I fell off the edge of the grand canyon and broke my great great grandmother's antique tea set.
Fan of playing magblade since 2015. (PC NA) Might be joking in comments.

Of the apex mounts, I prefer summoning animations like those for the Wild Hunt mounts — coming out of the ground fits the plant theme and isn’t obnoxious. I also love my very mundane Nenalata Ayleid horse!
On the other hand, there’s an apex mount that summons like a meteorite that is reeeally obnoxious.
They look cool, but they could have looked cool elsewhere, i don't need a damn nuking going on under my pants everytime I'm calling the horse or see daedric gates and harrow storms erupting in the middle of mournhold just because some guy mounted his camel.
