The Endless Archive is genuinely awesome looking. Unique, replayable, difficult - I was really excited for this.

The group finder (despite not enabling 12-man BG lobbies) is also a great addition! Allowing PUGs to finally queue for Trials is fantastic.

Jewelry Crafting? Also a good change. Mats were too expensive.

The above changes had me really excited for the patch, but the baffling lack of balance changes to address what is one of the least fun metas in years ruins that. Not only was the overuse of the typical "DoT Proc" setup not addressed, but the already strongest class by far was given another buff, in addition to one of the most head-scratchingly overpowered sets ever designed (Basalt). What's going on? I get that last patch was supposed to be light on balance changes, but that should've given ample time to collect feedback and data on the numerous pain points in the current meta.

Classes like Templar and Necro feel horrendous to play right now outside of very specific niche setups. Why weren't either touched or even aknowledged to be underperforming?

I understand that there was a lot of pushback on massive pendulum balance swings every patch up to U35, but the opposite of that is just as bad. It's utterly shocking that there are so many long-standing pain points of the meta that weren't acknowledged, tweaked, addressed, or balanced in any way.

Is this a pvp related rant about DK’s being buffed?

The DK changes actually hurt them somewhat for pve. But then the other changes balance it back out

How did improved bar flexibility by having major Savagery and Molten Whip stacks on each bar hurt DK in PvE? The change to not pre-buffing Molten stacks is so minor as to be a rounding error when considering any fight that lasts longer than a few seconds.

Far beyond frustrated at this point... It isn't worth the brain cells spent composing these messages of discontent when they very clearly fall on deaf ears. It's your game, I guess. Maybe it just isn't for me at this point.

The most demoralizing thing about it is, that we will have to live with all the obvious and fixable problems even longer. There are a couple more weeks of hope and then we are doomed to wait again, without any hint of acknowledgement or real human, non-corporate communication.

I can not fathom what there is to be evaluated. The hivemind has already parsed all implications on balance and sorted sets and abilities by relevance the moment the patchnotes go live.

    Good post, agreed.
I don't know how it is ok for zos to acknowledge that templar and necro are doing horribly in pvp (Kevin has had a few posts in some pts templar threads over the last 5 or whatever patches on this) but just not fix them. Continuing to buff dk is absurd.
There are some good features in this patch, and some good additions, but no bg lobby system and no class balancing for yet another patch just sours the whole situation.

I actually prefer that they left combat alone for once. I didn't really want to have to redo any builds or farm any new gear (except to replace Pillar of Nirn, RIP).

    Playing since beta...

Adding the group finder for me is the best QoL change I could dream of. The Endless Archive looks like a solo/group arena and I like that too. Developers well done, good job. But I'm more of a pvp player, and class balance changes are always more interesting to me. I liked the balance changes in update 39, and I was hoping the developers would continue in the same direction. But, excuse me, the class balance changes in update 40 are just a failure, many people in both PvP and PvE expect something different. Class set, ok, well, we can already say exactly what set will be in each build, and who will put the set on the far shelf. So far I'm more disappointed than happy, I hope the developers will listen to the feedback on the forum.

I completely agree, and I would like to add that I think a lot of players understand that the combat balance team would want to take a step back for a while considering an overwhelmingly negative response to U35 and what that did to the playerbase (particularly endgame players).

But I would also like to reiterate that a super unfortunate consequence is being stuck with "bad" balancing for going on 5 patches since U35. Since Q4 to Q1 is a really long patch (quarterly release wise), that means that the next opportunity for "good" balancing will be Q1 2024 (circa March 2024), or around a year and a half since U35... which is a really long time!

At a minimum I would expect some sort of timeline provided for combat balance, or at least info on what they're working on so I can adjust my expectations accordingly. Like, do they think that class identity is overall good? Is hybridization done? Where will they target future improvements, because some of the changes seem slightly random - e.g. FoO getting the slotted on any bar treatment when DK is already in a great spot and has received other buffs recently.... it seems obvious to me that Warden netch should get something similar, but it hasn't for two patches now!

DK already fell off in DPS with U39 and the nerf to Combustion. Arcanist is easily the top in PvE.

Every complaint about DK in U40 is centered in PvP, an area of the game I'm not sure the developers are that invested in due to the low population.

My apologies for not acknowledging the class went from number one to number two for PvE. My point still stands, this patch was a net buff for DK in all aspects save for whalloping something with an out of combat full procced molten Whip.

I say this as a DK main when I'm not playing the most garbage class in the game, werewolf. Wanna see what it's like to be nerfed? Try that out.
