Is there any way to tell if a player is new or is just playing a low lvl alt?

I'd add to that list that an experienced player playing an alt would never stand around in the middle of the cities with their weapons drawn: that, to me, is a classic sign of a newbie.

I'm hardly a noob and I do this all the time. I'm just to lazy to put them away.

Gotta love when some players are SO NEW they don't even read the tooltips, and slot a taunt as a DPS. And then taunt the boss off me repeatedly only to then run around like a headless chicken with it for a while.

    Very arcanist moment

See this is why the first sword and board skill you learn shouldn't be puncture. They are doing it on accident

I don't think this is really a thing. I've been playing since beta and routinely stand in Vivec City testing skills and checking stats.

I've even sat repeatedly casting heals and counted crits so I could check stats. In between doing this I'm entering things on spreadsheets or making notes or swapping gear or googling things, and to you I probably do look like an idiot, but I'm actually just testing things.

I also use block to dismount, cast rapids on low level characters, even left click to get back to game from second monitor will unsheathe. Idk my weapons are out all the time because I'm doing things, not just standing there.

If you’re on PC there are some addons that display CP in addition to character level.

However anyone who would talk to a low level in a normal dungeon the way described in this post is a garbage regardless of how experienced they are. Assume that even if they had been able to see you 1400CP they would have still berated you for something. Jerks will be jerks.

    I don't agree.
Making a first class skill as taunt is a mistake. People can't raise class skilline level without slotting the skill.
On the other hand, when players wanna to be a tank, they wear snb and able to play as tank in a minute, which is right.

If you put the puncture futher in its skill tree, you get people like "mom, I'm looking like a knight" instead of tanking, until they raise their skilline level up to taunt. That would be extremely wrong. If I wear a tank weapon, I play as tank, not predend to be one.

Reading the tooltip would not really do a whole lot of a good unless they already know MMOs enough to guess what "taunt" means, because the game sure as heck is not telling them. Not in the tooltips, not in the in-game help tutorials.
