Most other games have figured out how to make this work . . . . Just think of how much crown store items you could sell with this. Maybe that will motivate you.

It's gonna be 20 years and no capes. The engine isn't built for capes. If they remake the game engine, then sure. But that probably won't happen either. Like, they don't even have flags that flap in the wind in-game, and that's just a cape too. But it doesn't exist because of the game engine and performance. If there's ever any capes, they'll be on costumes or polymorphs, and they'll be very limited.

A lot of games have done capes, most of them have done them badly. For ESO, they're both unnecessary and unlikely to be done.

ZOS's art director long ago tried to make them work, failed, and omitted them. ZOS hasn't budged from that since, and the few 'capes' we do have (Breton hero outfit and the coat tails of the Dark Passions regalia for example) highlight pretty well how not including them was the right idea.

Capes were an ask way back during PC beta. The problem as it was explained then was that the game had to track moving objects everywhere for all players -- and capes/flags/banners moving would just add to the load on the game engine and the server. Even with modern beefy PCs, the game is still very reliant on both network throughput and server performance. It's just not practical without re-writing the whole game engine and client-server configuration. And that's a whole other debate for another day... ;)

You know, they added some flapping flags in High Isle, some other wind flapping stuff as well, I thought it was very welcome since there was no wind in Tamriel for 9 years either, even the sea is as still as a lake.

But capes... not for me, but I'll help cheer to get them, no problem!

World of warcraft and guild wars 2 always had capes since they first came out. The capes never once caused lag and performance issues in those games.

Kahjiits have fully animated tails so adding in fully animated capes wouldn't be a problem.

Y'know, capes WERE in the game pre launch. You can see some pictures of NPCs with capes from footage and promotional content for the game pre-launch. But they removed the capes due to performance issues and the engine not being built for proper cloth physics. The flags in high isle, I'd wager, are work-around tricks like a looping animation (which it would be anyway, but I mean more like a projected image with no mass and no interactivity) and not actual cloth physics.

The capes you want, you can't have. The capes you can get, you don't want.

I am okay with Breton hero style caps. We literally have guild taberds that would look better on the back instead of the front view.

I don't think so the dream is unrealistic and we can use the guild system to do it

Too many animations to deal with to make capes work without having to keep them glued to your characters body so they don't clip constantly.

It's too bad but I get why they don't want to have to deal with it.

On the other hand if they could introduce cosmetic capes and cloth physics and simply have a toggle in the video settings for those with the GPU/CPU power to spare, that would be great.

WOW capes reach your belt then I played it, yes other MMO did it better but it still did not look good.
They would obviously clip trough furniture then sitting like tails do. who would look even stupider as its harder to ignore as its larger and often in signal colors.

Capes, hair and cloth physic does not affect the servers at all, it affect potato clients.

They could at least make some shoulder motifs that are semi capes of some kind that would work with ESOs modeling/animating. Like make it somewhat short and give it some simple movement within an area that won't clip in most cases. That would be cool

I just want actual robes that hang from my torso rather then skirt,s skirts, skirts. Dawg this game is made on the same engine as swtor and isn't as old but they are getting the dog *** kicked out of them, in terms of outfits by swtor.

Same engine as swtor and swtor has capes, robes, coats, and backpacks. Engine isn't the issue.
