we need a new bait to fish up mudcrabs, monsters and even boss-difficulty monsters to fight us

That's not a bad idea. Having a new bait type with a risk of combat would make the people who just want to fish undisturbed happy and give people who want it some new engagement.

Except the latter might use this to troll the former, by using the "dangerous" bait next to other players who just want a peaceful fishing session.

I like the idea of pulling a grumpy emporer crab out of the sea. 😆
Never get between a cat and it's candy!

Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 24 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. It's not that hard.

Yeah. First thing that came to mind....

Someone suggested repeatable fishing quests a while back, that's a nice idea.

Or fishing leaderboards?! Sharps would gain some popularity if there were weekly leaderboards for trophy fish caught LOL. Either global or specific zones.....

They could use an unique type of fishing spot. So there's no reason for people who wants peaceful fishing to fish from them.

Like the event fishing locations and the one for the special fish in Wrothgar.

Might get a bit busy when all the warrior-fishers start pulling monsters out of a fishing pool ;)

But we could have a new title: Master Warrior-Angler!

I think there should be more rewards for fishing. I saw the Fisherfolk Work Wear costume in the crown store and thought man, that would've been so much better if you got it with the master angler achievement.
Or maybe some kind of aquatic pet? Or for hardcore fishers, fishing up antiquities for a fishy mount could be cool
Also why are there no trophy fish for furniture?

Anyway yeah, I think fishing needs more love.

Just have the creature that gets fished up aggro on the person who interrupted its peaceful swimming and make it a fight to the death... Easy peasy!

Ultima Online had a more robust fishing system than ESO in that you could use boats to travel to open water to fish the deeps. There were Water Elementals that you had to be wary of, SOS bottles that gave coordinates for loot to fish up, and special fishing nets that pulled up a Kraken that would drop loot after it's defeat. It was definitely gobs of fun, even in a 2D client!

That sounds workable, actually! Well.... without expecting that this game engine can do boats and open water.....

Even if it's fishing from shore but giving us something that will make fishing more exciting. Fishing up SOS bottles that work similar to treasure maps where you go to specific location, or fishing up special fishing nets that will pull up various sea creatures that you have to defeat in order to get the loot they're guarding. It would definitely make fishing more interesting.

There are so many games that have an engaging fishing experience that ESO could pull inspiration from.

As a Master Angler, I would love to have a reason to go fishing again, be it more challenge, better rewards, or more achievements.

Summerset brought Psijic containers, a rare find exclusive to the island that could contain extremely rare motifs at the time, and it brought a breathe of life for fishing in the game.

That approach could be taken again and I’m sure people would be ecstatic, I’m honestly surprised they didn’t do anything like that with High Isle.

I was hoping that ZOS would toss we anglers a crumb with the new Endeavours currently on PTS, but sadly not. A daily Endeavour say to catch 2 rare fish and a weekly Endeavour say to catch 100 fish would be an idea, but seemingly it doesn't fit with the motivation behind these changes.

That could be remedied by making special fishing holes instead of special bait. You can’t really be trolled if you expect a monster to come out of the place you are fishing at.
