Why do my Ultimate points keep disappearing?

Is this a feature of some sort? Absolutely randomly, my ultimate points will just vanish. I did not use an ultimate ability in another slot.

As a new Werewolf, the Werewolf Form ultimate costs 1000 ultimate. But my Ultimate keeps on disappearing randomly. Please tell me this is a bug and not a feature, because as of now I can't even really use the form because it just keeps disappearing.

It happens for my other ultimates, too. I'd notice I had my ultimate up and a couple minutes later I'd be down to 50%. Another couple minutes and it's empty.

It's just dumb.

I think inactivity gives it a degeneration effect but that's just speculation from when I've seen it happen to me.

Like 10-20 mins no fighting It is gone for me, but keep kills moving along it keeps up np. This part I'm ok with tbh.

I've noticed this too, it's my only real complaint and it's really annoying...I'll save up ultimate for using my Nova skill or etc at an Anchor. (I camp anchors as I'm leveling Fighters) But even if I have a full ultimate charge when an anchor goes down, by the time the Anchor comes back up my ultimate has either half- or fully disappeared, and all I've done is simply wait around 5-7 minutes.

It even happens when I'm walking so inactivity isn't the thing, it might however be a lack of battles over time...I say this because when I was doing an Alliance Quest I didn't use my ultimate, which had been charged up before I accepted the quest and 20 minutes after said accepting, I fought the big boss and still had my ultimate from before....yet 5-7 minutes at an inactive anchor and it's gone.

I also noticed dying in game can take away half or all my ultimate(this I'm okay with as most of my deaths are stupidity on my part) and logging in and out can also do it(now this is stupid).

Of course ESO is still very new, so we know very little about how all things work, but seriously, Losing Ultimate just for waiting for a lengthy respawn? Truly not my idea of fun.

    From testing.
    1. It degenerates over time very slowly, you can overcharge it way past 100%, up to 1k points.
    2. It will wipe to 0 on inactivity

Decided to make some tests with my Bat Swarm -ultimate.

Got myself enough points so I could activate it and went AFK (away from keyboard) for the next 30 minutes. When I got back, I still had enough points to activate it.

So I went and continued playing. But when I dropped combat and was heading to return my Quest, those points were gone after about 1 minute. So it does seem a bit random.

Exactly this. It's they way the mechanics are implemented.

Initially, i thought it to be some sort of bug. Alas, it works as intended.

Okay everyone. I found out the particulars on this.

When you engage in combat, a 5 minute timer gets enabled on keeping your ultimate points. As long as you are hitting enemies, being hit by enemies or healing allies in combat, you will continue to refresh the timer at 300 seconds.

Essentially, when you leave combat, you have 5 minutes before you lose your ultimate.

Now, here's the trick: If you change zones, you keep your ultimate points indefinitely, until you engage in combat again and reactivate the timer. Changing zones is like entering/leaving a dungeon, using a wayshrine to go to another zone, etc. (e.g: not traveling to someplace in the same zone).

So, if you are consistently killing mobs, you will continue to gain your ultimate. If you suddenly AFK out in the field for 5 minutes, it will be gone. If you port back to town and AFK for 5 minutes, it will be gone when you get back. However, if you decide to port to a town in an entirely different zone, you will have your ultimate points when you get back.

If you have paused the timer by switching zones, logging out will not kill your ultimate points.

So, because right now, I am questing in Coldharbour, it behooves me to port to Evermore, Bangkorai for all of my town activities and then port back to Coldharbour when it is time to resume killing.

Hope this helps you guys. It's helped me immensely so far.

I've overcharge the ultimate to 3-400% and when i use the ability it drains my ultimate to 0. Is that supposed to happen?

    Ultimate should never reset.

If this is intended, it needs to be changed.

If its a bug, it needs to be fixed.

This has been happening since beta. Despite how annoying it is, I always assumed it was by design for some unknown reason. I hope it is a bug and on their fix list.
