Last played 1~2 years ago (just after companions were added). Have there been any momentous changes recently that might sway me one way or another? BTW, if you can't remember any, that's fine -- that just means nothing (big) worth remembering happened.

BTW, I'm hoping they finally added an Auction House -- whether ESO finally has one will be a major factor.

Off the top of my head, the biggest changes for me include

    1. Curated drops. I think this dropped around the time you might have left, so you may or may not already know about this.
    2. Heavy attack builds became a lot more popular, especially for sorcs. This is because of the mythic that came out last year, Oakensoul.
    3. RIP jabs. I barely play my stamplar now. He switched over to tank because I can't stand the new animation. Maybe not big for some people, but for me it ruined my stamplar.
    4. Account wide achievements.

    1. And because of this, all people sell something now. Its very hard to find players to join you if you need something... unless you pay.
    2. HA got nerfed, and you can do better and way more DPS with the new Class Arcanist! Just go and buy it!!!!
    3. ZoS change annimation of Jabs
    4. True. Create a new char and you will have so many things already complete in your brand new role play char.

I mean, everything is pretty much hybrid now.

    Probably the biggest change.

There is also a card game now and a new class called arcanist.

Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 24 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. It's not that hard.

Sunglasses optional if you play an Arcanist.
So they raised the floor and lowered the ceiling. Except the ceiling has spikes in it now and the floor is also lava.

    Greetings,

After further review we have decided to move this thread to a category we think is more appropriate for this topic.

    Thank you for your understanding.

Thanks for the quick run-down. I seem to remember curated drops. It's certainly a nice idea. I also recall people would sell runs, but I never had any issue in PUGs where people would even ask for payment for a drop they couldn't use. That would be an interesting change in behavior. I could definitely see shout-recruits asking for payment, though.

On Achievements, do you mean things like titles and such that are earned by doing harder modes or something else? I was just starting to become interested in those when ESO faded away for me. I like the idea of account-wide for them.

Is attack-weaving still a thing? I recall seeing patch notes about changes there. I LOVED weaving in Tera, but for some reason I don't like it in ESO. I'd guess because ESO-weaving feels like so much button-fluff (extra buttons for no reason other than "more buttons").
Auction house isn't needed in eso.
For the most part, this is true and it's a big plus for ESO overall. It's quite possible to play and acquire all you need directly. That's until you craft. Then trading becomes far FAR more economical time-wise than gathering directly -- even with the hours-long shopping trips.

I simply dislike playing "medieval shopper". Lack of an AH is probably what chased me out of the game. I was working crafting at the time and would often not log on for weeks just to avoid shopping. Not logging on ESO lead to logging in elsewhere and eventually to never logging on to ESO.

For those of you that like the whole medieval trade-wars aspect of ESO, what drew your interest and how did you get started in it? Most of the stuff I recall that might sell was "grindy bot farmer" type things (ore/etc), which is a big turn-off.

    1. the curation is great, it makes it so much easier to experiment with builds with all the gear collection, i never really had problems running content if i needed to. the only thing people really sell is basically a guarantee for a specific drop (pillar of nirn daggers for example), as long as you dont collect it, and its the only thing left uncollected from that dungeon, you are guaranteed to get that as a drop on every dungeon run as long as you give the drop away and do not collect it, but there is no reason personally to buy these when you will get every drop eventually anyway through curation and gear collection

    2. a 2 bar regular light attack weaving build is still a thing, it offers quite a bit more flexibility than an oaken build, but is harder learning curve, heavy attack build suffered almost no nerf at all (-10% on empower which realistically only translated to -6% actual dmg nerf after accounting for other calculations), and they somewhat nerfed 1 heavy attack set (storm master) so that the window to re-proc it is far more narrow (almost all the heavy attack sets were also changed to only apply their dmg bonus against monsters so that would be a nerf for heavy attack builds in pvp)

    3. personally, there is nothing wrong with jabs (though i do find the animation change a little weird to get used to, and the spear model doesnt match anything else in templar kit, but thats entirely cosmetic)

    4. i personally dont mind the account wide achievements, it gives me the freedom to play whichever toon i want to progress through content, i know some people preferred to treat every character individually, but for me personally if im killing a WB in a zone, it doesnt matter which character im killing it on im still killing it, killing it on character A or character B is effectively the same thing to me

on the topic of an auction house, i think its fine without it because it makes it significantly harder if not impossible for someone to corner a marker on an item, you wont all the sudden see flour costing 100k gold because theres never any on the market because someone is buying all of it

this can make it a bit tougher on buyers, because there is no way to see everything listed, so if your looking for a particular item that is more scarce, then you could be checking through dozens of guild stores and not find what your looking for. if im usually looking for a specific item, ill usually first check the TTC website to get a rough idea if there are any even on the market (while yes sometimes the info may be out of date) it is still better than nothing and blindly checking each store
