How are you preparing for Necrom?

I have done - but not turned in - Mages Guild, Fighters Guild, and Undaunted delve dailies on all my 18 characters so that they will be able to level those skill lines on the 2 new companions, which I plan to unlock as soon as possible with all my characters.

As for new Arcanists, I have backstories and names picked out, and a few horse lessons stored up which came from login rewards. I will create them on the first week, but I won't play them immediately: I reckon both fresh characters will spend the first few months parked by the stables until their speed and inventory is what I'm used to. Necrom content will wait until the corresponding motifs drop, I hate missing out on those by doing zone quests before the motifs are available.

My guess is, I'll focus on unlocking the new companions on all my characters so I can get to know both no matter which character I pick for the night, and I may explore the new zone without getting involved in questing. Then in about 4 months I will start questing with the 2 new arcanist characters, one a mage, the other a thief, with a few incursions into random daily dungeons while they're under level 45.

I pre-ordered it, but nothing other than that. I'm not sure when or if I'll create an arcanist. If I decide to it probably won't be any time soon, I'm more interested in the zones and companions.

I pre-ordered the collector's upgrade, but haven't looked at it on the PTS at all. I prefer to have it be a new experience for me when it's released, not just the live version of something I've already experienced on the PTS. I haven't done anything yet to get ready for it, although I really ought to clean up my bank space a bit.

Reading all your replies, it turns out I forgot some things. I too have stored some companion gear in some of my character's inventories. And I too have tried to stay away from any news about Necrom. I have only looked up the specific companion stuff, seen the zone screenshots, and looked at the arcanist showcase video. Nothing else.

So Necrom is going to be totally fresh and new for me. And yes, I am going to take it slowly as well. (except for unlocking all companions on all my characters, as I will do that right away)

Also, the reason I don't do fighter/mages/undaunted dailies in advance, is so I can take my new companions on those trips. Which will automatically grant them a huge chunk of exp for leveling them. A two birds with one stone kind of thing.

I decided to make only 1 character of the Arcanists class, there won't be that much of a difference between a magic or stamina character. The class will be over powered for the first few months then it'll get adjusted, after that it should be clear which option, magic or stamina will be best. I'm stock piling xp scrolls, recipes, companion gear, etc. Instead of selling it all I just toss it in the bank. I'm not sure how much I'd use the new companions but at least my main/crafter Za'Dar will pick both of them up while exploring the lands. I haven't gone on the test sever and have tried to learn as little as I can about the new chapter. Once I did real play testing and reporting issues for Clockwork City and it basically ruined that chapter for me. I don't want to be burnt out on Necrom before it drops. I have a feeling that for me, playing mostly Khajiits and Bretons, Necrom will be fun to run a few characters through but after that, it'll become routine to the point of boredom grinding.

Still looking forward to heading out with Ember and Donkey to explore (and loot) new lands. :D

As for preparation for the new chapter, I'm doing none.

There is a mount you don't get if you preordered?

Well, didn't know about that. Could you please clarify it a bit for me?

I'm creating a char on June 5th & mount training it for 6 months.
Waiting for an XP event (Witch Fest) to level it up with Master Writs. 100% +150% XP boost gives me 20 minutes of making it from lvl 3 to lvl 50.

Also - I've completed the Deadly Strike collection for cheap reconstruction. I heard it'll be OP soon.

Pizza mount is for preorder, the green mount is only for the deluxe edition (upgrade or collection), and it will be available after release.
The pizza pet was limited for preorders before april 18, but you can still get it if you get a code from this period, don't know the details abput that, but my friend got the pet and he ordered the chapter recently.

As for my preperations. I'm doing some surveys to have some more materials to sell after launch. Many people will create gear for their new characters, some prices may go high.

Thanks for the clarification. Was a bit confused before as I couldn't find anything about a third one.

according to feedback in the PTS forum, the telvanni peninsula is smaller than the already small DLC for High Isle, Galen.
The larger part is apocrypha, a place that already gave me the creeps in Skyrim. I want to play ESO, not Alien, so I give this chapter a pass.
So no preparation for it, I already have 72 characters, so can live without an additional character slot. Rarely play all of the others, except during events like recently whitestreak mayhem.
The negative changes add up, I'm still disappointed about how they handled the U35 protest (ignoring it).

I have got some names and themes for the new class. I have also been collecting companion gear already.

That being said I won’t be able to log on for the first week or so due to some personal matters taking me away from home.

And I have to say, for the first time a chapter has dropped, I am ok with it. There is a lot of changes that has really mentally pushed me away from the game.

The “open world events” being changed to group orientated dungeons, companion acquisition quests being very long and requiring public dungeons, the nerfing of mid to low end dps, (and I am still sore about the racial changes).

And there are still races that have not received a chapter focus, and we are giving dark elves a second one. Why zos seems to give dark elves some of the best racial stats and so much content attention is a mystery to me.

This chapter, I am just not very enthusiastic about it.

I'm not sure why you are saying Arcanist will be OP at launch and then nerfed later, when it's not even OP on PTS now. Also, it's designed to be a hybrid, as ZOS has said, "different from existing classes", so I doubt that will change. It's really the first class I can comfortably run with a mix of Light and Medium armor and spec'd into all Stamina for both staff and DW builds. When I tried spec'ing all magicka, my resource management was horrible, but going the other route and mixing armor and glyphs, I found success. But as for damage, it is definitely middle of the pack or less, unless you use very specific gear, and even then it's still not the top. I think it's better than when Warden launched, as it was horrible, but not sure how it compares to Necro at launch as I had stepped away from ESO during that time.

    That’s a great idea!

Me, I’ve tested the class on the PTS and decided to start with stamina, and I have my (sadly unoriginal) character concept and name decided. I’m so excited because it’s my first new character in years and my altitus/altiholicism has been chaffing at the bit for a long time! My dual personality will be both giving him exp scrolls I’ve been saving, having him first learn the training trait on everything, reconstructing gear every 10 or 15 levels with training, then crying when he’s gotten to level 50 too quickly and becomes just another maxed level character on my account.

People are talking about how challenging unlocking the companions are on new characters because you have to go in delves and public dungeons, but I can’t wait to have that feeling again after so long! So I’ll be unlocking them with my new character as early as possible. And people have been saying how awful it is doing anything without all the wayshrines unlocked and how slow everything is without mount speed training! But I’m relishing the thought of the new character experience, even the petty annoyances like these (I will be buying his bag space upgrades except for the mount ones right away - I’m a digital hoarder and not a glutton for punishment). But the very first quest I’ll do with my baby arcanist is the Necrom prologue quest for the backstory.

THIS time, I won’t be making the mistake I did when Elsweyr came out. I created a character, played through the Elsweyr tutorial (loved it, btw), got the skill point, decided I wanted to tweak how the character looked, started over, and…skipped the tutorial. I didn’t realize I lost the skill point until long down the road when it was too late. As a completionist that’s left a thorn in my side for a long time. But does the new universal tutorial even give a skill point now? Hmmmmm….🤔

to be honest, missing that 1 extra pt for a new toon in the new tutorial is kind of negligible

most of my toons have upwards 90 unused skill pts right now, and ive never run through the tutorials again since my main back in 2014 when the game launched (i remember when the wailing prison was the tutorial, now its just the first harborage mission)

so i wouldnt really be too worried about it

    I'm looking forward to Necrom.

I have saved lots of goodies for my new character, things I would have turned into gems and some I would have deconstructed/destroyed and, after playing this game for years I have a rather sane levelling strategy.

So, for the very first time, I'm ready.

My initial instinct was to respond with 'nothing'.

In reality I'm stocking up on my XP and crafting research scrolls. All my 18 characters are max level crafters and know at least 8 traits in all crafts and any new characters will not be an exception.

I'm also expecting to make only 1 Arcanist character-- or really 2, 1 on PC NA and 1 on PC EU. I'm thinking Dark Elf for both, in keeping with the chapter's location, but I might try a Stamina focus on one server and a Magicka focus on the other. That sort of thing should be easy to respec later if I change my mind, so having one of each should help me get a feel for which I prefer.

I may or may not use XP scrolls, but I have a lot of those saved up because I just never use them. But one thing I'll definitely be using, besides all of the recipes I've got banked, are all the instant research scrolls and riding lessons I've got saved up.

The first time I ever went on the PTS was before Summerset launched. Back then access to the PTS was invitation-only and you needed to redeem a code to add the PTS to your account. The screen had your account name watermarked all over it so that if any images from the PTS were leaked they could easily tell who had done it. Things are much different today! I don't remember much about checking out Summerset on the PTS, but I do remember running around Elsweyr just long enough to decide that I'd definitely be buying it (and to help some other players kill a dragon). Then I spent a goid deal of time checking out Greymoor before it was released, avoiding the zone storyline quests but doing a lot of the other zone quests. After that I decided I'd rather not know too much about upcoming content before it dropped, because I didn't want my live experience to feel like running a second character through content I'd already been through.

I'm not gonna say I won't play it but I'm tired of getting used to something only to have it changed once folks start to complain about it.

As far as new zone and content thing goes, this chapter is of no interest to me but I might buy it once it hits the digital bargain bin.
