How important are achievements for you personal enjoyment of your game?

I don't care a whole lot about achievements and generally won't go out of my way to get them. I did make an exception for the 'Hero of the Unending Song' achievement though, because I liked doing Vateshran Hollows anyway and thought that 'of the Undying Song' would be a nice title for my main.

i like achievement hunting because it gives me something to do

certain achievements i know i likely wont get like most trifecta ones, because personally i hate achievements that are like "no deaths" because that removes the fun/challenge and just makes it more stressful

getting killed could be many things: mistake on part of the player, mistake on part of another player (if doing group content with like an aoe that could kill you that is outside of your control), or the game itself having an error (lag, desync, crash, etc) that is also outside of your control

i never thought i would get emp but i had an opportunity to get it in 2019 (5 years after i started playing), so im not saying ill never get the achievements, but for me the ones i dislike the most are no death ones

Getting achievements for completing quests, dungeons and trials is nice, but to me are just part of progressing through the game.

What I really really like are what I'd call exploration or easter egg type acheivements; like jumping off the highest point in a zone, or finding specific dogs and petting them. Finding lists of treasures or the tombs. Like the swirling basin in Coral Aerie was just so fun. Running into the adoring fan so many times, etc. And I'm sure there are many others I've not come across yet, but I'll be happy when I do.

As much as I like getting achievements, I know ESO is one game where I'll never get them all, because I simply have no interest in doing PvP or group content like dungeons.

This was something brought into mmo's from console games. I find them a waste of time. I remember when mmo's didn't have them.

Achievements themselves aren't super important to me. I think only Grand Master Crafter and Tamriel Hero are the ones I sport because of the effort implied. I only care about getting rewards like the dyes, mounts, skins, etc.. If it's hard and I don't get anything cool from it, I won't go out of my way for it. I like having them as a "to-do", but I've got my own goals that take priority.

This is the closest match to my opinion on this, though it does bother me somewhat when I cannot get an achievement.

I do not care to get the vampire and werewolf achievements specifically, but I would love to get Emperor or dungeon trifecta ones, I am just not skilled enough.

I do not go out of my way to complete an achievement unless two things are true.

    1. It's easy to get.
    2. I want the reward.

I will only actively chase an achievement if it meets both requirements. If it does not, then I'll get it if I'm lucky. If not, oh well.

Voted for option 1. I sometimes go after achievements but it's really my own goals that get me through things. I collect as much gear as possible, I want to do all hardmodes, I seek clears on different roles even if I have the achievement already, etc. Yet there are ones that I know I will never get such as emperor and planesbreaker and I am okay with that. Sure, I have the capability to go get those achievements... but no thanks. Effort not worth the reward.

They were very important, but since account wide achievement I can no longer tell which character has done what. Needless to say I've now lost all interest in them.

    Master Angler for the win!

But mainly I don't even bother looking at achievements, they don't resemble what I consider achievements - the first time soloing a dolmen, first time soloing a wold boss, first time soloing a DLC world boss, first undaunted, first arena completion, etc. In general first time I did something I hadn't done before - the achievement being "I couldn't do that, I can now... progression!".

And I don't need to compare with others... I got mine, don't worry about his.

I'm here for the fun, but I couldn't pick the 3rd option because the wording was too strong for me to agree with.

I do enjoy earning achievements, but I generally don't go out of my way to see which achievements I don't have yet, then go work on completing them. I also don't care if there are some achievements I'll probably never earn. So I chose the 1st option, even though the wording was also a bit too strong for me.

When Acheivments first started showing up in MMO's it was for random things most players wouldn't think to do in the game and discovering them was fun. Occasionally you'd see a unique title and think wow how did they get that?

Now its just a list of things to trick you into playing the game more than you might naturally or to do content you dont enjoy completely.

At the end of the day, they are the loot box equivalent of in-game time fomo.

How achievements are designed in current MMO's is detrimental to the game and serve as a cheap replacement for actual content to keep you engaged.

i usually only pursue achievements for the rewards like being able to buy furniture, use a title, a skin, a costume, a dye, or a house.
example: completing the horns of the reach dungeons on veteran to be able to use the dye and buy the house.

like i love questing but i dont do it for the achievements, the rewards are nice though

"I simply have not the slightest interest in achieving anything in a video game. I'm here for the fun."

Incidentally this wording is not ideal in a poll. An "achievement" in a video game is a random label attached to doing X. You "achieve" whatever you like in a game without it necessarily be labelled as an "achievement". (Indeed, putting any wording that adds an emotional interpretation to a factual response will do that.)

It's not ideal because wording like that can push your result in a particular direction (although, clearly, polls on here don't mean much anyway in the grand scheme of things!).

Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 24 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. It's not that hard.

Like others have said here, I only care about achievements in regards to furnishings, dyes and titles. For example, getting Savior of Morrowind was great! A snazzy title, a shiny dye or two, as well as a lot of cool furnishings (like the fountain and Vivec statue)
You have discovered the thirty-seventh Sermon of Vivec, which is a bending of the light, long past the chronicles of the Hortator who wore inconstant faces and ruled however they would, until apocalypse.

I enjoy getting all the achievements in activities that are of interest to me but if there's an achievement that seems too tedious or in an activity I don't enjoy, I don't worry about it. I want all of the achievements that are reasonable for myself personally rather than all the achievements full stop.

So I probably won't ever be EMP.

Every once in awhile I check to see if there's something easy I happen to be close to getting, like "do X amount of this activity", and I'm very, very slowly working on master anger. I'm not much of an an achievement hunter, though, because if it doesn't align with what I'm already doing I don't care about it.

I don't care about achievements in the sense of the little pop-ups confirming you just did a thing. I almost never look at the achievement list and I'm not going to do something just because there's an achievement for it. Very occasionally I'll do one to get a dye or title I like, but that's it.

On very rare occasions the fact that there's an achievement has alerted me to something I wasn't otherwise aware of which sounded interesting, so I wanted to do it. I can't remember any examples from ESO but I know it's happened in other games. But that's the only way they're relevant to me.

I still want to do a lot of activities which have achievements, because the activity is interesting to me and/or relevant to my character's stories, including ones which are difficult or annoying for me. But that can apply even when there isn't an achievement. I restarted my warden when Greymoor came out so she could do that tutorial instead of the Morrowind one because it was a much better fit for her story. There's absolutely nothing in-game to say which tutorial a character did (and wasn't before AWA either) but knowing she'd done the Morrowind one always bothered me because it made no sense at all for her to have been on a boat to Vvardenfell at that point in her story, so I had to pretend it didn't happen. Whereas the Greymoor story was almost what I'd have written for her myself.

The stickerbook is tangible to me. I like veteran and hard modes for the challenge and the rewards, but don't count titles and achievements as such. In one case achievements actively interfere with my enjoyment of the content. I'm talking about BGs. The scoresheet that's shoved in your face at the end remains unfathomable to me. Achievements such as "near death kill" are nonsense. Congratulations, you almost died? That's not something you aim for.

I can understand that one very well

I play video games for almost twenty years now and have seen a lot of different combat styles (ranging from oldschool rpg and mmo styles - personally can't stand them anymore - to various fps styles) and came to the conclusion, that at least for me eso has one of the most enjoyable ones.

There are two fundamental reasons I play this game. One is to experience Tamriel through the eyes of both my characters and to enjoy seeing how they develop their respective stories. The other is to experience and learn from the rich and varied cultures and lore surrounding all the races, the landscapes, beliefs, flora and fauna, and so on. These are my achievements. This is all I need.
