Zenithar is the god of " work, commerce and trade"
But actual lore friendly work like crafting can only get you 7 rewards a day, while if you want more you go to fight or steal (opposite to Zenithar's values).
There must be a more lore friendly way.
- More crafting
- Make it a combined event for two gods (craft/trade and one of fights like a gladiator)
- Something else
In the end, I think thieving fits well because it adds more event activities and comments on the same theme of "honest work" by seeming like the opposite.
It's totally lore-friendly because it's not like the boxes are stamps of written approval from Zenithar or his typical priests.
I can also see thieves praising Zenithar for work that THEY consider good, honest, busy work. He's also the divine of wealth, which many thieves seek and worship. But maybe the thieving side should be fleshed out more by the event quests.
Who said you were getting those as a reward for stealing? An honnest and hard working npc got it after a long day of work. You just happen to steal it from him.
Im pretty sure, lorewise, the vestige isn't the only one getting those boxes

I see this angle but, to be honest, Zenithar's Commandment does literally condemn theft.
"Zenithar says: Work hard, and you will be rewarded. Spend wisely, and you will be comfortable. Never steal, or you will be punished."

It isn't just the thieving angle, also that there is very little crafting to get the boxes. Which is one of the key parts of commerce.
Alternative would be to e.g. to half the effect of merchant taxes and with that encourage more "commerce" with more sales.
