Revitalizing necro healers - Empowering grasp

Hi

I'm a necro main and have been for about a year now, i first started with a necro healer sometime around the release of ascending tide and U33. What originally drew me to necro supports was the reputation of being difficult to play, the two major things being blast bones for ulti generation and empowering grasp. At the time, for the people who don't remember, empower increased light and heavy attack damage by 40% against all targets. it was a pretty significant buff that was difficult to obtain outside of a few select skills and the necromancer was the only class that was able to give it to other players, although only for 5 seconds at a time.

With U35 came changes to empower that turned it into what it is today, a 80% damage increase for heavy attacks against monsters and this caused heavy attack builds skyrocketed into the mid-late game meta. The problem caused by this for necro healers was that since it was such a significant buff, almost every single player who wanted a heavy attack build designed their build around already having empower, mainly trough oakensoul, rather than having rely on other players to get the buff. Thus empowering grasp lost all of it's value in PvE support situations, since the buff it provided was being widely covered by the people who relied on it.

I would like to propose a change for necro healers to perhaps help them get back into relevancy again.
Out of all of the common buffs, such as major sourcery and resolve, the only buffs that are currently not "giveable" are major prophecy and savagery, neither by sets nor skills. What i suggest is having empowering grasp reworked to provide friendly targets hit with major prophecy and savagery instead of empower, i feel like 15 seconds would be a good timer seeing as it has to be double cast to hit an entire raid group and it is still fairly easily sourced trough potions and passive skills.

I started my necro of as a healer and what got me to enjoy it was the intense rotations, now they are no more and i rarely play that build anymore. I'm certain alot of people who play necro support or necro in general would like to see them get buffed.

Thank you for reading.
Have a wonderful day.

    Yeah, it needs some love.

I think minor heroism would be fun, heroic grasp, maybe?

I like the idea obviously since getting something, anything is better than a dead skill [pun intended], but Arcanist already gives this buff when they heal people below certain hp level. We don't want to overshadow the new guy, do we XD?

Also imagine the impact on the economy. This will make Heroism pots redundant.

So I... vote Major Heroism XD

But seriously, how about Major Slayer, even with a cooldown? RoJo has been a staple combo for some years... what's the use for all those support sets when you end up as either RoJo or SPC-Pillager healer?

Honestly just make it do anything useful and I'll be happy

Necro healer used to be my favourite due to the high skill ceiling to play it. But now its sooooo boring

I feel like changing empowering grasp to a conal aoe(similar to DK talons) will be better than having a straight line forward. As far as I know most necro summons will typically be summoned to your side at any times anyways so grasp would be buffed by it.

It could still do the pulse outwards, where the patches expand outwards in a conal aoe in 3 rows. The effect would still be the same the first group snares, then immobilizes, then stuns and applying minor maim.

But I think it would function better for buffing your necro summons if if it's conal AOE instead of 1 column in front of you.

Agreed! The problem is that Empower in its current state is useless to give as a buff to allies unless it's as easy to keep up as Igneous Weapons since all your allies are going to fall into one of two extremes:
    1. They're not heavy attackers so Empower is useless to them.
    2. They are heavy attackers so Empower is so essential to their build that they can't afford any moment of downtime, so they're going to bring it themselves instead of relying on Empowering Grasp.

For this skill to be of any use either Empower needs to provide some benefit to LA builds or Empowering Grasp needs to provide a different buff. And I agree that Major Savagery/Prophecy seems best since they're available enough already that it shouldn't raise the DPS ceiling for absolute high end groups by much, if anything at all, which I understand ZOS might be wary about on a skill that's more difficult to use like Empowering Grasp.
