Backlash and its morphs are still being hit twice by Battle Spirit on PTS

Templar's Backlash has been bugged this entire patch - Battle Spirit is affecting it twice. This is making Templar overly reliant on Beam builds while having little to no burst pressure.

@ZOS_Kevin Is the dev team aware of this issue? I'm only pinging because I've seen this issue discussed a lot on the forums and in game but haven't seen anything to indicate that the devs are aware of it yet. I don't have the math on it right now, but looking at the numbers makes it apparent that the calculation is going awry.

Would be amazing if they fixed this during this pts iteration.

They probably don't know how to fix it and so just want to pretend they don't hear you.

Of course they are aware of this issue. Everyone has been screaming at them about it for multiple update PTR cycles.

They decided to focus on what us Templar enjoyers really want. 5% class damage on a weak dot skill.

Hard to believe this is still an issue two patches later.

Still no word on this very impactful bug. Is the team aware of this issue? Can we please have some communication on if this is known and being worked on?

At this point, I’m honesty starting to think that this isn’t actually a bug and this is intentional design. Or maybe the bug isn’t actually battle spirit

I think what has happened is that backlash has become a victim of “dummy balancing” ie its maximum power output has been balanced around hitting a raid dummy during a parse. This is for 2 reasons:

    1) backlash NO LONGER STORES DAMAGE. Instead, the amount of damage it deals is a direct ratio of how much damage you have dealt. In my testing, I found roughly 12k damage done on a dummy (the basic 200k dummy, no raid buffs) only resulted in a 30% or so increase in potl damage from its initial non-scaled tooltip (non scaled being before the 200% increase)
    2) it was specifically stated when backlash got changed that they wanted it to be less reliable in pvp scenarios. Whether or not this needs to actually be the case is obviously up for debate, but it’s what zos felt they wanted to do. By making the damage done threshold so high to get your % increase, it effectively kills the skill in pvp, which accomplishes their goals

The main burst ability in every classes toolkit (shalks, curse, assassins will for example) has some sort of condition it needs to meet in order to be effective. For shalks, you just look at someone. But you time your burst off the 2nd tic. Same thing for curse, albeit its single target and has some issues being cleansed. And assassins will has the travel time to consider. But all of these are CONSISTENT DAMAGE when the conditions are met. Backlash on the other hands has always been inconsistent and honestly just situational. In the past (like 5 years ago) it was just a group play skill. If I was running around solo-q’ing for bgs or just trying cyro by myself I would put on trap beast a lot of the time because back then it had a very substantial dot on it. In its current form, I would suggest letting other players damage build up the bonus as well if its payoff is going to be so hard to achieve. Or just actually adjust the numbers on it so it actually hits hard
