AwA... A look back

They should have kept "map completion" character-specific - delves, dolmens, world bosses.

I mean, they could do it for public dungeons, they could do it for museum pieces (though more recent museum pieces, such as the Blackwood Tapestry, High Isle Druidic Provisioning Station and Galen Forest Spirit skin, are account-wide and once-only): an addon manages to do it perfectly well for delves, dolmens and world bosses (and even works when new zones are added, despite the fact that nobody is maintaining said addon). So why couldn't the main game track what the addon does.

The long term "Do X thing Y number of times", I am profoundly *glad* has gone account-wide. 30 Deadlands Dailies on every character, rather than across all characters - and so on - would have been a right royal pain in the posterior. And don't get me started on "Murkmire Prepper" and its absurd 150 mini-quests, which is already six times worse than any similar repetitive thing account-wide, and was even worse when it was character-specific (especially after they changed it to make only one quest, rather than all six in succession, doable per day.)

Most "monster trophies" are rare enough that I'm glad they too went account-wide.

I believe that Dungeon and Trial completion, both veteran and normal, should have been logged character-specific. (The dungeon skill points were: so why not the achievements?) To be frank, some characters on a given account may be up to completing a veteran DLC dungeon or trial, and some are NOT, because they simply lack the skills and gear.

Also, there completely ought to be a skill point for completing every Trial, and every Arena. At the moment only Maelstrom Arena has one.

No, I'm playing the same was as pre AWA
I always saw achievements as something I as the player gained, not the character, so I really like AwA, and it hasn’t affected how I play, other than now having to spend time digging through achievements and maps to figure out if a particular character has gotten the skill point or skyshard from a particular dungeon or delve.

    I hate AwA.

I have a pecking order as far as Achievements are concerned & tying to maintain that, is time consuming and a nightmare. The result is, that I can no longer send the best char to do the job, whereas before, it did not matter.

How hard is it to think about a poll and come up with meaningful options?

It did change how I play. I play fewer dungeons because it's not possible to get an achievement on several characters (or better, roles). I use the Character Zone addon that SilverBride mentioned because without it, new or less played characters are objectively broken, and ZOS can't be bothered to clean up their own frelling mess. I need to keep an eye out for a few cumulative achievements because I want to have a certain name listed as "Earned by". I stopped levelling antiquities for alts.

Did it fundamentally change how I play? No. But apparently, there's nothing in between "not at all" and "fundamentally", for whatever weird reason.

Yes and no, but more no than yes.

Basically, before zos ripped the soul out of character progression I was plugging along doing content and getting achievements in my slow turtle like way as I did my trading and farming with several characters on several accounts.

Now, I am slowly plugging along doing content and getting achievements in my slow turtle like way on usually 1 character per account. I just have significantly more accounts these days.

Yes, this has fundamentally changed how I play
I play less now. There is no need to play most my characters. I treated them as individuals even going so far as not allowing a character to put a furnishing in their home they had not earned themselves. I was advances my third Master Fisherman and now the game says I have 18.
Much like Tandor I created a single character on one account so that single character would get no help from other characters in advancing. Instead of getting a new account I created a character on the EU server. For me and the way I was playing the account wide achievements is an absolute disaster. I like my characters to have goals and now most goals have been stripped away.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

It certainly has changed a lot the way I play, and for the better.

I enjoy so much choosing the character I prefer or the most adapted for this or that achievement, rather than feeling constrained to my good ol' main.

I don't care about alts a single time anymore. I won't bring any new ones through mandatory "flawless conqueror" ritual I did before after hitting lvl50, nor I would gear them up as usual if that's not some rp build for some specific vfx. They're writ makers basically now, or coffers that I can dress up occasionally based on their theme. Generally game became less replayable and it shows on time played.

Glad there are games around with deep customisation, actual progression and ones that are respecting people's time investment right.

Yes, I actually play alts now as I achievement progressions on alts don't fee like a waste of time anymore.

This is kind of a bad poll, as "changed how I play" can be both positive and negative.

I'm repeating less content now. Why bother doing a trifecta on more characters when they can all wear the title/it isn't recorded on a separate character sheet? Some days I craft then log out.

I had 3 Grand Master crafters and 1 very close before AWA. Why bother now when previously you needed 50 unique motifs learned on one character, but you can learn the base blue ones on several characters and that counts?! It's a joke

    I really don't like it

Yes, this has fundamentally changed how I play
Yes this actually reduced freedom to play how I want. Before individual character achievements told a story for each of my characters, now I kind of redid my account by only keeping one pre AwA level 50 character and remaking all the other ones. That one character was the only one which did not do quests outside of her story so the achievements fell where they should. All the others were a mess so I've been working on starting over and trying to get the right achievements on the right characters. There have been some mishaps because of how AwA is now cumulative and even the best plans don't work.

It's funny how AwA opened up some people's ability to play and completely constrained other people like me to not be able to play how I want. I've hated it. I don't mind re-doing quests (I've actually enjoyed reliving the stories that I began with the recreated character that first experienced them), but I hated losing crafting levels and skill lines, and losing all those learned furnishing plans.

This pretty well sums up my opinion. Mostly it is the way ZoS implemented AWA after SO much discussion about it. Feels like ZoZ didn't care and destroyed the playstyle of many long term players.

As far as me, I had almost 12k hrs in game before AWA. I played all the time, every day, hours a day.
Now, I sometimes only get on for 20 minutes sometimes. I will go a couple of days without playing. If it wasn't for the fact I am a GM and love my guild, I might even play less.

AWA killed a lot of ESO overland replay value for me. I had a project of doing every overland quest on one character who now instead does writs. I do dailies but mostly not bother with other quests which do not drop skill points any more. I do visit delves to pick up skyshard with a char who has not yet collected it but do not bother seeking up and waiting for the boss. And so on.

Yes it changed it for me, I no longer feel the same sense of progress and achievement I did. I have stopped playing on all other characters than my main, and I therefore play less, and I miss the way it worked, where my characters could be different. But I would have thought the WoW way was an improvement for all those who wanted AwA, without ruining it for the rest of us who didn't :)

I like achievements. But I also like playing different classes and roles so this works perfectly for me. I don’t like redoing content multiple times for achievements either,

You can still do the content on your other accounts should you wish. So you don’t really loose anything

Little point in playing alts. I'll drag them out for the crafting dailies in the Anniversary event, then they will go back into storage.
So they raised the floor and lowered the ceiling. Except the ceiling has spikes in it now and the floor is also lava.

Achievements are like to-do-lists to me. I don't need those to play any game and i only care about them if they give me something interesting/valuable after completing them, which a checkmark is not.
I'm more a fan of sandbox games and i dislike achievement hunting for the same reason i dislike events. Achievements feel to me like mommy and daddy game dev gave their player children some goals of bloated importance so that they are busy.

Btw, it would have been nice if achievements had been linked to loading screen tips.
For example, no one needs advice on how to farm crafting nodes after they farmed 1000+ nodes. Though a hint that you can place your Tel Var stones in your bank might be useful to many players, before they stumble into the imperial city for the first time (imagine the frustration of entering the IC for the first time with 10k+ tel var from daily login rewards in your pocket).

On one side AwA partially killed my little roleplay. I had some characters lawful (no TG, DB and ledgerdemain), some not. Today I can keep it the same, but watching TG achievement on such kind of character spoils it a bit.

On the other side the day I got AwA merged, I found that I can buy the rest of houses for my house collection. I hadn't been able to buy some of them due to lack of in-zone quests done. Sure I could do it later, but AwA have made it faster for me.

Anyway I think it is tiny thing. The most of my play style and routines weren't changed.
I'm still using some titles that I'm proud of for characters who got it only.

Yes, for me and my mostly PvP friends. We’ve been going through and clearing veteran and HM trials now that we can wear that title on any of our PvP toons. Before, given that we only pve one night a week, it wasn’t really realistic to try to gear out and organize each one of 18 characters considering that we might move to a different class a few months later.

I’m still a HUGE fan of AWA as it gave me the ability to be able to flex for trial and dungeon team composition without being concerned that the achievement is earned on my main.

I’ve always believed that achievements are earned by the player and not the toon so it’s liberating to be able to quest and play on multiple characters without concern over which toon gets the virtual skinner box popup and associated swag. For me AWA is something I wanted since 2014 and it hasn’t disappointed.

Pros: it's easier and faster to get some rewards based on achievements.

Cons: the labels attached to who got what are meaningless, and my alts are getting congratulated for doing something they didn't do. They're also seeing people they shouldn't see - looking at you, lady from Cloudrest sitting outside Shimmerene with your dog, talking to my level 5 like he should know who you are...

I am somewhat happy they've installed ghostly Verandis permanently overlooking Arkthzandt. It always makes me happy, going to see him and being addressed as a friend.

I'm not really into achievements, but the changes completely broke Map Completion tracking so now I have to keep my distance from delves, dolmens, and world bosses if I want to know which ones I've done on a new character. AwA also completely changed how the Undaunted skill line is leveled, for the worse.

Yes, this has fundamentally changed how I play
AwA completely killed replayability for me. Before, I wanted to level up tons of characters, had tons of ideas for them, had plans to get them all competent in their chosen role, testing them through things like vet dungeon achievements and trifectas. I did vMA on all my characters, even after stickerbook.

Now, I log on my main for events or new stories (haven't even bothered to order Necrom), and then disappear for months on end. I think I've played maybe a month total in the past 15 months. Add in the hybrid changes and other combat changes and I just can't get excited enough to bother relearning to play again. Honestly questioning why I even bother doing events when I don't enjoy the game anymore so who cares if I miss out of cosmetics? It's an unpleasant way to feel for a game that I used to love.
