I was a day like any other since I started playing ESO in 2015: Anundriel went to the Vulkhel Guard plaza to do her daily crafting writs (like she does regularly since for so many years now). Everything was as always: people going about their business and doing their daily chores - nothing out of the ordinary, everything was quite and peaceful - as always.

She approached the consumable writ board, lost in thought and not paying attention to the people around her... and there it was: a loud, intrusive and unpleasant voice shouting across the whole plaza, advertising an allegedly brand new card game, trying to entice players into giving this game a try.

And I immediately knew: "Oh NO! They put this NPC quest giver directly next to the writ board! Gone are the quiet and peaceful days in Vulkhel Guard. WHY?" :s Was that really necessary?

I tried so many ways approaching the writ board in order to find out if there was a way not to trigger her. But no, there is none. As soon as you get into the vicinity of the board, she starts yelling.

So day after day, Anundriel and her friends had to endure this pushy advertisement with no way to escape (except changing to another crafting location, but that was out of the question as they are doing their writs in Vulkhel Guard since 2015 and I will not let them be "annoyed away" by a pushy quest yeller!).

But one day, I found about the AddOn "ShutYerTrap" (I feel SO sorry for the players on PlayStation and XBox for not having this possibility), that made it possible for me to put a gag on Sorinne.

But not only that! There is some small, tiny detail that really brings out my mean side (and I think that in general I am not a mean person ): everytime she tries to start yelling, she gets a hiccup. You only hear a "hic" when she starts - and that's it.
I have to admit, this small sound gives me so much satisfaction everytime I approach the writ board and I think: YOU will never say a word again! :)

Accepting the quest and be done with it in order to shut her up may be a solution for those who own "High Isle". But those who don't have to put up with her day after day because they cannot do the quest.

Yes, Stuga can be annoying too, but I kind of feel sorry for her, always roaming around the city looking for someone who is trying to avoid her at all costs.

Sorinne is really getting on my nerves. This was really not necessary, but I dare to assume that ZOS knew exactly what they were doing.

I would rather they just have notice boards for these kinda things, save the NPC's for the actual zone their content is in.

Have a little notice board in all the main cities that directs you to the various tutorial quests NPC whether it be for the card game, antiquities, DLC starter quests, prologues etc... there is no need to have an NPC calling out to us in unrelated zones.

I don't have High Isle so have no means of completing the quest. Due to that alone I shouldn't have to put up with Sorinne's inane dialog.

Neither should we be punished for getting the chapter (or having ESO+ as of June)! These NPCs need to be much more scarce, especially this one… :unamused:

She shouldn't even be outside of High Isle. New players have enough quest vomit to deal with as it is without another being pushed on them in the first major city they're likely to come across.

The developers of LotRO added the ability to identify and filter out individual sound files, as well as permanently filter out individual quests. Either one of these would be a welcome addition to ESO.

Things used to be like that. If you wanted to browse the Crown Store, you opened it up and had at it. But shortly after Morrowind, they started blasting the unhidable giant nag screen advertisements in our faces every time we logged in... on every character! After much protest, they eventually made it so it only got in your way on your first login. And there were tons of threads about the hypercommercialization, the new focus on microtransactions, etcetera. But, as usually happens, over time people got used to it and stopped bringing it up. However, a year later, players are still regularly complaining about this particular shill. I'm not convinced that this one will go away quietly.

No hard feelings so no reason to apologize. It was the same with Stuga for players who didn't have ESO+ or purchase the Orsinium DLC. One would think after all of the complaints about her stalking players over the years ZOS would have learned the lesson not to make another NPC just like her.

Vivec used to be the best city to do daily writs in, and with the addition of Sorinne, it quickly became less so.

It still is for me. I've got a route that starts at the equipment board, hit clothing, blacksmith, and woodworking; then pick up from consumables board and do the rest; run straight past the back side of the consumables board to go turn in, and then run back past the consumables board to open and sell stuff to Cuilalme.

I don't have voices on - just subtitles - so even though I don't see her subtitles on that route, if her VA is loud enough to hear anywhere around that would definitely be an issue!

Leyawiin is pretty good for crafting too - if you have the chapter. I think Sorinne's farther away there, though whatshername from FG is too close for comfort.

i use the "no thank you" addon to completely disable that announcement page on login so i basically dont see it ever lol

She doesn't bother me, well annoying yes, but not "on my nerves annoying to want to murder her". But yeah I agree ZOS should move her. Personally, imo, ZOS should place her in a bar or inn, or place her near where the 3 difficulty ToT NPCs that in each zone, to advertise the game.

Main is Blue-Thuxis, a Argonian stamSorc, whose also is a werewolf! 2nd main, Cobalt-Thuxis, a Argonian stamArc, an identical twin sister to Blue-Thuxis, even is a werewolf as well! some alts:
Nirn-Scale Rajthux (Argonian, Templar), Ros-Ei Nature-Thuxis (Argonian, Warden), Crimson-Thuxis (Argonian, DK), Bone-Thuxis Tharn (Argonian, Necro) Why Bone-Thuxis has Tharn as a last name:
The siblings were separated at a young age due to a Dres slaver raid, Blue, Cobalt, Ros-Ei & their mother were able to escape, Crimson & Bone weren't that lucky. Crimson was later "rescued" by some Orcs that later ambushed the House Dres Dunmers, unfortunately one Dunmer remained & sadly successfully brought the young Bone-Thuxis to the Dres plantation. Later an Imperial, a Tharn, bought Bone at a auction & later told he was free, the young Argonian sadly had no idea where to go & doesn't know if his family was still alive, so the Tharn adopted him into House Tharn. This family of Argonians finally reunited years later.
, Kenneth Clyde (Nord, Sorc), Selene Gray-Thuxis (Argonian, Nightblade), Urmanda (Orc, Warden)
Some ESO history: I originally started from PS4 NA during June 10, 2015, I did reached CP 810+ on there. I eventually kinda got tired of paying PS+, so during February 4, 2019 I started moving to PC NA. Also CP: 810+. Nowadays I play ESO PC mostly, while PS4 is dust.

My necro is the grumpy eccentric who doesn't care about saving the world, which means he has completed very few questlines. Visiting a city becomes a trial of avoiding countless pests. "Oh, the Ivory Brigade has need of me? Damn, you must be reeeeeally desperate!" While Sorinne is indeed annoying, I still despise even more that Solitude fellow who stalks me even though he's bleeding to death (a notable case of eternal bleeding).

Years ago it was common to see people asking in zone chat how to start this or that questline. I presume the devs wanted to make the game easier to figure out as it got bigger, so they started adding these loud and stalking NPCs. However, players aren't so, say, cognitively impaired that the solution to the problem has to be this bloody nuisance. I like the idea of a notice board (make it large, shiny and fancy-looking so even a blind scamp can find it): if it already works for writs, why wouldn't it for other quests, too?

i think the reason why most of these NPCs exist is to push players towards buying DLC

you meet stuga in base game zones, you get her quest, she sends you to wrothgar (DLC)

you meet sorinne , you get her quest, shes introducing you to ToT, which requires going to high isle (chapter)

i dont think any of them stop you from getting the quest if you dont own the DLC/chapter and not ESO+, so your option becomes "buy the dlc/chapter" or "abandon quest" (in which case they continue shouting at you)

She feels like a telemarketer trying to get me to buy something. She is also way more egregious than the other quest starters npcs. Most of them at least stay in the starter zones. Sorinne is like all over the dlc zones, she's near the Solitude wayshrine for whatever reason. "Shut yer trap" addon is still used for solely her alone.

Well, my theory and yours aren't mutually exclusive. However, some of the annoying NPCs aren't related to DLCs, like that one who blabbers about the guild having need of the player, or are only accessible if you already own the content, such as that Ivory Brigade fellow with the dashing blond hair.

I noticed yesterday that the main story quest giver for Galen, Dhulef, doesn't pester the player (or at least he's so discreet I couldn't hear him). Why can't the other characters be more like him? Heck, even Jakarn was getting on my nerves in High Isle.

In Vivec City, but I assume in other places, Sorinne is bugging us to play Tales of Tribute; there's no way for me to ignore it as she is very loud, I could take the quest and shut her up on all my other toons but... wouldn't it be an idea to move her to the PVP area? Playing cards around a campfire seems more like that, and then she doesn't have to keep yapping at a writ-rat like me every time I hand in and return from my daily writs.
Won't affect how easy she is to find, but it would surely save my sanity!

In case you are on PC, this addon might help with the problem: https://www.esoui.com/downloads/fileinfo.php?id=1196
Iirc that particular NPC was the reason i installed it.

Actually, instead of simply (re-)moving her there is maybe a better solution. She could be flagged as bladeofwoe-able. For the greater good.

Oh yes - I agree with any request to remove Sorinne. I, and apparently many of you, find her quite obnoxious.

But I just want to remind everyone there is hope - a bit of computer game lore from long ago (and from wikapedia):

"Lord British was killed during an in-game appearance on Ultima Online's beta test on August 9, 1997. A royal visit was conducted as a part of server population stress test. A player character known as Rainz casts a spell called "fire field" on Lord British that, surprisingly, kills him.

According to Starr Long, the whole thing was just a human error: Lord British's character, like others, had been made invulnerable, but by design the invulnerability did not persist over several game sessions. Shortly before the incident, the server had crashed, and (Lord British) had forgotten to set his invulnerability flag on when logging on again."

That was one thing that got me interested in UO. May the quest continue.
