Could there possibly be a option to dual Class for characters.

Hello,

I know this might be a bit of a wishful thinking, but since there is little to no plans for a Class Change Coin in the works. I was thinking how would you mates feel about a option to gain an additional class via a voucher that can be earned or bought? I think this option would potentially be viable instead of us needing to create a whole new character just to play as one class. I see this possibly unlocking after you reach a certain threshold within you main class whether it's at level 45 or when you reach the level 50 in our class. I know this might sound insane but it might be possible instead of us needing to pressure the staff into creating a way for us to change the classes around.

But hey this is just my opinion on what could be done to make the game a bit more enjoyable in the long run. Leave your thoughts down below.

Not interested. There's a reason I don't play Final Fantasy. I LOVE my alts, and am very much looking forward to a couple or three arcanists on all my accounts.

Some time ago I did have an idea for a workable system of secondary classes, so I guess I can throw it out there....

So, the system could be working in such a way, that after you reach certain milestone of progression, you could pick one class, as your "secondary class" from that "secondary class" you would pick one skill-line. You gain access to that skill line. The choice of the class and the skill line would be resetabble similar to skill point resets.
The experience within skill line and it's skills would be tracked separatelly for each skill line.

To justify why only one skill line - because I felt that allowing access to whole second class within same character would be generally too strong.

But it would be probably a decent chunk of UI and technical work, so I dunno if ZOS would have spare capacity in their development pipelines to squish that one in.

And I really can't get into alts to be honest, all the better for those who can, but I'm more of a one character, one story, one endlessly improving skillset kind of guy.

It sounds like you want all that to be single, but for class you want it to be dual. That seems a bit contradictory to me.

I'd agree it would make my own play time way more enjoyable having ability to switch class from time to time on the same character.

The issue of giving access to 1 extra skill line is with how classes and skills are balanced.
Say everyone would have access to everything, there is no such issue.

But in the current state of things, the result of giving access to a single skill line from another class will absolutely not be balanced, depending on which class you start from.

ie. Try to add "storm calling" skill line to non-sorcerer classes, and compare results.
Passives alone : +5% physical and shock damage, +1% damage per 10% enemy health, +2% damage per skill line ability slotted. As long as the classes are not balanced, you just added 10-21% damage to the gap between non-sorc classes.

You'd also have to rebalance the overall game difficuly, as DDs would pick 10-20% damage boosts, while tanks and healers would probably pick support/ heal skill lines, most of which don't have such damage added.
... Or you'd have to change most class passives, so they're not tied to skill lines.

I don't get what you're saying, where's the contradiction exactly?

At a certain point in the game, the class skillset is mostly depleted, I've done everything with my class and I love to dig deep in everything it has to offer, and while I still enjoy it, I've been craving for more skills and more ways to improve that single character. Dual classing could fix that, just as new weapon skills or guild skills could fix that, so having one character and expanding the skillset, would give me (and that's a personal opinion) a lot of reasons to keep playing. That is why spellcrafting was a big ask a few months ago by the way.

If you're saying that having one character but wanting two classes is a contradiction because one is "single" and two is "dual" than I think we're not really getting eachothers point.

And as I said, I don't like making a new character, and starting all the way from the start, just to get to lvl 50 and start the grind, there's really nothing enjoyable for me to making alts, I'd be playing through the same content, with a different character, both RP-wise and build-wise it's just not for me. But I obviously I respect anyone who loves alts.

No. Class identity needs to be maintained, not lessened.
Making an Alt is no big deal especially if you do it in an XP event.
Looking forward to an Archanist or two to add to my 10 fully levelled characters (plus 18 on another platform).

Wow almost a half split for both sides. I knew it would've been heavily disagreement, but this idea could be useful for those of us with one main character being a bit overpowered, but could also be a way for other players experimenting with new characters still being made. When I came up with this suggestion I was hoping for players to have 2 classes their Main Class with their "Secondary" Class which the player can choose add to one of their ability bars. I only saw this as a benefit for those of us to create more characters for their arsenal once they reach a certain point within the game.

The closest I see to that ever happening is them adding a 4th class skill line to each of the classes at some point.

Don't ever see them making it mix and match between existing classes though, just don't see how they could maintain some semblance of balance going that route, without it turning into this combination is the best this month, this combination is the best next month etc...

As it's apparently was about mixing class skills I'd take my vote back lol, only actually changing class (akin to armory?) would be desirable and non consequential for the balance and health of the game.

However, I don’t think it would be a good choice as it means more gear on one character. We should not be able to change class when in a PvP instance.

I think it's perfectly normal. For me, I like to experience the game world through one character, the way I experience reality through, well, me. And I see nothing contradictory about dual classes, we can have different skills and careers in our lifetime, so it's still quite realistic. Also it's in line with the SP TES approach; nothing in the SP TES universe has ever restricted players to one class.

If people are worried about balance issues, then having an alternate class to switch to (instead of mixing skill lines), as colossalvoids suggested, seems like a great idea.

I really don't think too much is in the way of the gear aspect unless it's a drastic change. I fully agree about the PVP aspect of the game that it shouldn't be allowed. Maybe have these dual class characters be banned for the time from being accepted into PVP until a balance can be figured out.

I only play one main but even i know this would be a bad thing for the game. Class identity has already been a sore point and it would be much worse with this. But even worse could you imagine a skill getting nerfed because when two certain classes are combined it's broken?, resulting in an ability that then becomes useless to everyone else due to this one thing. Rinse and repeat until all classes are almost all nerfed into the ground that causes them to play almost the same because of all the balancing and the headaches that would follow.

Then all the regearing because of this over and over and the burn out in players and developers a like. Trying to balance this, they already have trouble now it's why you see such massive swings in one direction or another. Causing alot of builds already to break, requiring more regearing every single update.

My 2 cents this would just destroy the game.

No, I wouldn't want to have more than one class on a single character. Multi-classing is one thing people have speculated about, that being getting a skill line from another class. But I can't even see that happening, let alone allowing you to swap whenever you want. More likely to be a class change coupon someday.

Unfortunately, this needed to be designed in from the beginning. For example, Guild Wars Classic did a great job of it, along the lines:

You could use skills from one other class (which could be changed each time you changed your build).
Those skills couldn't scale.
Therefore, you'd want to use utility skills only, or utility-mainly skills that were still valuable even if the damage/healing aspect was too small to matter.

That system depended on there being utility skills you'd really want to equip.

I can't think of a dual-classing system that could be added to ESO at this late date that could work ...

... with one exception. ZoS could, if it chose, create a new class that reused active skills from a variety of old classes, and then create passive skills however it thought would make the new class balanced. (If needed, numbers could be tweaked and skiils renamed as well.) Animations would of course be reused, with or without minor reskinning as the case might me.

That could actually be relatively little work for creating what might be a very popular new class.

Class change tokens will never be implemented, and here's why.

ZOS has too much cash to lose if you can simply port a max level Undaunted/ Psijic/ Mages/ Fighters/ DB/ TG/ vampire/ werewolf/ Alliance War/ etc character to a new class. All those things may be too tempting to bypass having to grind again by buying fully leveled skill lines in the crown store.

Not to mention mount training. With Update 37, ZOS extended the minimum requirements for having a fully trained mount from 3600 hours to 4260 hours. And if you want to have a competitive Arcanist in Cyrodiil, you'll need to have max mount speed as soon as possible. Not to mention the stamina and carrying capacity. And you can get "up to speed" immediately with crown store riding lessons.
