Forced Lockpicking secretly nerfed in January.

Rogue_One
Rogue_One
Forced lockpicking needs to be changed back to what it was before the patch before the dragon event in January.

AND no its not RNG so just stop. I honestly can't believe that literally the entire player base is perfectly fine with the nerf or entirely unaware of it and or there's some kind of farming protection code (like resetting instances from farming too much), its a pointless and annoying nerf and it needs to be changed back. It used to rarely fail now it fails half the time or more. Apparently I'm a master thief but just can't do locks. Stupid. It was perfect the way it was.

And don't give me that balancing clap trap. It needs to be changed it back.

Whatever you are experiencing, it's RNG.

Lock forcing has not changed. It's working the same way that it always has.

I've noticed this too. I come across some chests that have 60% chance of forcing, yet I go through about 10 lockpicks every single time I try to force their locks.

Forcing locks in ESO never feels like the % it displays on the tooltip, so I almost religiously pick the lock manually to avoid it.

It's perfectly fine if some locks are harder to pick or force open than other locks. Also it is possible that the force lock chance percentage displayed is an estimate.

While I won't discount the possibility of rng, I have had the same feeling in the same timeframe. Thing is though, it feels more like it's fixed than nerfed. Before this, lockpick chances always seemed lower than the % displayed when I had no skill points invested in the legerdemain passive, and higher than displayed with a maxed out passive. Now it feels like the % chance displayed is a more realistic representation of my actual chances. But it's not like I'm keeping a log of every attempt, so who knows. On the one hand it's not in any patch notes, so it would make sense to assume it's just rng. On the other hand, this is eso, so it's not unrealistic that changes/fixes in one part of the game have consequences in an entirely different part of it.

Forcing it's even faster. Handy for those moments when you need to be as fast as possible (eg PvP/PvEvP zones)

My anecdotal evidence says otherwise, and I was forcing a LOT of locks the past week, far more than usual, to get the last lead for the Markyn Ring of Majesty. Sometimes Master locks break on the first try; sometimes I have to try two or three times on a Simple. Same as always.

(Edit: And yes, I know how to pick locks and do so on my characters still leveling up Ledgerdemain. I really didn’t feel like clicking that much, or even paying that much attention, with how many chests I had to go through for that lead. :expressionless: )

I have times when it takes me 2-3, or 3-6 attempts to successfully force a lock, amidst all of the times when it just takes one attempt, and it has been like that for years.

If you are hitting a bunch of locations the time picking takes can gradually add up and it can make it easier for you to end up getting caught.

I just really don’t think you know how statistics works. You can never go off of vibes, from the naked eye many things look statistically significant but in reality they are not. Additionally, we remember and recognize negativity better than positivity, and the belief that there is something wrong can make you search for further evidence that there is something wrong. There is no reason logically for it to be nerfed, either. If there is any change it’d be best to frame it as the possibility of a bug.

If it has supposedly been nerfed then I must have been given a buff then. I've had better luck forcing locks lately.

It's rng. If you have a 90% chance at success sometimes the 10% failure chance will happen.

Why would they nerf forcing locks? It's not like lockpicking was unbalanced or giving an unfair advantage to anyone. The loot in the chest is the same whether the lock is picked or forced open. Nothing changed.

Um. I only pick locks on chests.... and I'm never in a hurry. (Doesn't include safeboxes - I've only picked 8 of those, which is what it took to get 6 leads for the Oakensoul ring.)

If you're going to make a statement as if it is a fact please provide the receipts showing it is not in act RNG. ZoS leaves as much up to RNG in this game as they possibly can so it's likely an RNG action.

If anything, it's gotten better for me this year!
I still have like a 90%+ success rate on force lock.
I haven't had to buy a 200-stack of lockpicks in a couple of months now.

For some reason, Simple and Intermediate chests break picks more often than Advanced and Master chests, at least in my experience.

Outside of rare instances during Heists there really is no reason to force a lock. I don't even spend points into that passive anymore.

While in a PvP zone should be one of those rare instances. Another should be when you've just broken 5 picks in a row trying to pick a Master lock and finally force the lock in disgust (and it pops open on the first attempt). Yeah, I know that the Master locks supposedly seem to be the easiest to pick-- but that really depends on how easily and quickly you can get your stupid mouse to hover over and stay on a pin so you can start pressing down on it.

        I agree.

Similarly, we have seen people suggest getting upgrade matts from refining is nerfed but we have someone who has kept records of this over the years from refining materials gained from many characters and I think across multiple accounts that have demonstrated those claims there is been a change is inaccurate.

Unfortunatly we do not have such an expert for forcing locks but there is no reason for it to have changed.
