what if you couldnt change the look of armor at outfit stations and instead always had to farm the mats to craft in the style you wanted???
you could still change the color and look at your collections to view styles but couldnt sink money into the outfit station but instead into the style material player market???
just imagine what certain style materials would cost if this were the case...

i DONT actually want this but it made me think of how basically useless most style materials are...

I actually found it very odd that they didn't make it so you needed style materials to change the looks in the outfit stations. Still wonder why they opted for that, pretty much made the whole style material system obsolete, until they added the furniture stuff.

Isn't that basically how it worked before the outfit system was added?

Dropped sets were restricted to the styles they dropped in, crafted sets could be any style but you needed the motif and material to craft them in that style.

You're right about style materials being useless, for armor, but since they're also used heavily in home furnishings there's still a need for them. But like Danikat said, that's exactly how it worked when outfit stations were just dye stations, it was nice since everyone could have armor that wasn't red/blue or a disguise, but ESO's current outfit system is actually really nice, and I prefer the boring and flat gold sink to the need to customize each piece of gear, then have set A not match set B when I try to swap them around... The current system is really nice in that.

Before outfits were a thing, I crafted my light armor stuff in Dark Elf as it looked like shiny plate-robe. Night stuff was the max before they added Ruby, it has a cool metallic blue sheen to it.

You're asking for the system we had before, and Zos found people tended to avoid new crafting styles because of the scarcity of mats, especially if you craft often changing sets around you're more likely to go cheap and matching. Once they opened it up to creating outfits with whatever style you like as long as you had it learned on your account, Motif sales went up.

If that happens players will manipulate the market just like they do with everything else and pretty soon no one can have any drip. All style mats would be millions a pop and everyone would have mismatched costumes. No. thank. You.

Oh ye'h, the manipulated market is so bad right now in ESO. I don't even interact with it anymore unless I am selling something that I know someone will want or need, and you better believe I will be selling it for a much more reasonable price.

The old system let you transform gear into selected style, downside it did not work with set items as their style is stored in the set. An mother sorrow robe is Argonian style because Mother sorrow is Argonian.
But for crafted sets the style is stored in the item, same for items without set.
No idea if old system worked for crafted set but you could just craft them in the style anyway.

Now WOW uses another system who I expected in ESO. You go to an transmute station, you put your set item in the set slot and the style in the style slot. The set piece get the style from the style item who is destroyed.
This would not work in ESO since item probably not hold the style.
Benefit of system is that you can have gear looking different rater than an overlay.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Nobody in manipulating the market. With over 200 vendor locations it can't be done other than with new items for the first few days they drop.

I agree that certain style materials are now largely useless, unless (like me) you prefer to craft gear in the style you want it to be in rather than paying gold to change existing gear. Many style materials might be used to craft furnishings of a particular style, but is that true for all style materials?

I don't know how it works now versus the way it used to work, since I almost never use outfit stations, but I think it might be nice to have an either/or situation, where you could change the style of a piece of gear either by paying gold or by using the appropriate style material if one exists, and perhaps by using a mimic stone. That might actually encourage me to start using outfit stations, since I'm loathe to spend gold on things I can get or do myself for free unless it would be too long and grindy to get something on my own.

I've seen first hand the market being manipulated on multiple occasions and multiple items.

With access to addons such as Master Merchant and Tamriel Trade Center allowing players to easily locate whatever they wish and how easy it is to get gold now/little there is to spend it on, players can very easily manipulate the market if they want to, it's just that not many can be bothered to do so.

Style mats at least go to craft bag and have use for furniture and master writs. Daily reward mimic stones can be used for an unobtainium style mat (if there is any) so none should be super expensive. I do not see any sense in radical nerf to outfit system just to spend few more style mats.

There are some. I can't remember any specific examples now but sometimes when I'm crafting stuff for master writs I come across a style where I don't have the material and either it's stupidly expensive on TTC or not available at all (there will be 4 or 5 listings and they're all gone when I check).

But even then it's not a big problem because I can just use mimic stones from daily login rewards.

What do you mean? The only difference ESO+ makes to the outfit station is that you can dye costumes, everything else is available to everyone and works the same way regardless of whether you're subscribing or not.

People will purposely do WTS ads for items at a higher and higher price to purpose inflate the price of those items since the current method of price-checking items is simply finding the average of all WTS ads and vendors. In other words, if enough people are spamming ads with higher prices (and selling them at higher prices) then they will slowly manipulate the price of those items accordingly... It's just like the real world inflation. The people selling keep just increasing the price slowly and slowly to manipulate that average and people just keeps buying without a second thought of what is happening or they have to buy it in the case of important materials (if they wanna avoid the grind). Other sellers might just be accidentally giving into it because they will just follow the average they get from the price checker.
