[SUGGESTION] DLC for 2024: Focus on Argonian Culture

I know we got the Murkmire DLC but compared to the other Race-focused DLCs of the recent years it was really meager with respect to the extent of content. Murkmire is a great zone and the quest line really nice and so. But I always felt that it was a bit short compared to the two-chapter DLCs we got for Bretons, Khajiit, Nord etc. but also small compared to the Dunmer-focused Vvardenfall (and now we get Necrom).

Only Redguards and Bosmer received even less DLC attention.

And between Shadowfenn, Darkforest and Murkmire there is still a huge empty space that could be filled with entertaining and interesting Argonian-focussed content.

I know some will argue that Argonians were the least favored race. Please consider it is also mirroring the attention this race gets from the developers with respect to the content. In fact, Murkmire convinced me that Argonians are a very interesting culture and I then made two Argonians, as many as Khajiit characters that I have. And I am planning further Argonians too.

I don't want any more argonian content (even minor) any time soon, sorry. I need my redguard and bosmer stuff first.

You forget we also got Blackwood which about half or a little over half the zone was Argonian themed. Gideon and everything to the east of was also Black Marsh. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have more Argonian culture, lore, and content, but I'd also like for Redguard and Bosmer to get some content too. Maybe they could have a joint chapter since the Valenwood is all filled up.

Murkmire was last decent dlc I remember getting, would absolutely worth the money but was even free at a time. Loved every second of it.

Hopefully more of it to come but being not "fan favourite" makes it a reserve for more stable years most probably as currently they need miracles and nostalgia rides again after all the problems.

I guess this is a matter of personal preference.

Anyhow we should get more content for those races that did not get the same attention as the other ones.

Agreed. Redguard and Bosmer are the only races that haven't received any DLC focusing on their culture yet.

Too late. MMOs generally have their next content already planned out, while they're showing us Necrom now, the next year thing is already in production.

I will be honest. I would love to visit more of the Black Marsh, especially the city of Helstorm - which apparently is an Argonian-made city. Their Capital city to be exact.

        b62b5ce16912626f7e90169f62cbdb06.jpg

Unlike other places in Black Marsh, it was not built by invaders (or colonists) - only to be abandoned later once they realised there is no real benefits in establishing a city in the swamp.

It was built by Argonians, so I kinda expect it to be more like Xanmeers, but not destroyed & ransacked. Full of live and prosperity.

I understand that deep regions of Black Marsh are considered inaccessible by other races, but um... look at the map. The fact that we have a map, means that some non-argonian was there and got back. And the name - Helstorm... "Hel" and "Storm" suggest that it is an non-Argonian name given by the ones who got there. Given the name, the place must have been kinda inhospitable.

The main reason why I would like to visit as many parts of Black Marsh as possible is quite simple. We will never be able to visit those places in other official TES games. For instance, if by some terrible bad luck, Redguards won't ever have a chapter in ESO - then they still have TES6 which is said to take place in Redguard Home Land. Wood Elves on the other hand have way different problem - their entire Home Land is already in the game in form of Base Game zones. Oh and btw. Khajiits got super lucky with the content they got so far. The other beast Race is not as Lucky

I'm not sure the Argonians have a great deal of commercial appeal (hi new players buy our new expansion which is all about lizard people is probably an even tougher sell than the cats). It would be nice to see and certainly I found Murkmire impressive, but from a business point of view it might not be wise.

(From a personal perspective, I'd prefer it over either Redguard or Wood Elves, neither of which I find remotely interesting or convincing as cultures, sorry to say. They feel formulaic.)

        • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
        • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
        • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
        • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

As a huge fan of bosmers, I have to say bosmers deserve a DLC first. I have had my fill of argonian content for a while after blackwood and murkmire, even if I enjoyed murkmire. I'd really rather see something new and different.

I'm also just plain tired of swamp biomes.

I’m sure the next chapter is already in the works, but I would be happy more Argonian content, especially if it included a clan who still follows the old ways or continued to develop from there — I think it’s awesome that there’s a clan in Coldharbour whose Hist made that decision, but of course they have other problems so we don’t really get a different Argonian culture. There are some Argonian characters that are really cool, but I think they are often portrayed as more passive or simple, but of course they are not, or not only, as the Argonians actually invaded Oblivion! I think the Argonians would really benefit from a nuanced chapter like Orsinium, showing different aspects of their culture in a non-black-and-white way.

I must also agree that Redguards and especially Bosmer are due a chapter! There are some wonderful Bosmer stories in the base game but most assets (motifs and furnishings) are primitive and low res. You can make fine things from leather and bone and some of the tree cities are quite beautiful. I would love a chapter where we find Falinesti!

Finally I want to add that I’m quite looking forward to Necrom and Apocrypha! TES III <3

Whenever ESO decides to release additional Argonia content it’ll be epic for sure. I do think there are some great Redguard stories that need attention and was surprised that ESO hasn’t gone there yet.

As much as i like Argonians there are so many other things I would like to be explored first, obviously Redguards and Bosmer thanks to them not having a chapter yet. But I also want to see things such as the College of Winterhold, the Battlespire, and the Shivering Isles first. It also doesn’t help that I am not a fan of the swamp biomes in this game.

I have been crossing claws that we would get more Argonian themed content since 2017 or so. I have been waiting (sometimes not very patiently) and hoping there will be more. I am realizing now that I should just enjoy what we have already. I would agree that we will likely never see any Argonian themed games beyond ESO, but one can always hope.

I would really like to dive into the language of the Hist and Argonians. It would be amazing to see someone (or more than one person) from linguistics that could shed light on the language and culture. Establish the language in such a way that we could fully understand Jel.I have this crazy thought with the new content theme around Hermaeus Mora that this could be that moment, but I’m sure I have had too much Hist sap.

Another crazy thought of mine is, what if the origins of Argonians and the disappearance of the Dwemer are closely intertwined in some way? It’s more probable that the powers that be would reveal the happenings of the Dwemer well before the unknowns Argonian language and culture.
        -Still crossing claws though

Agree, but a lot of people are missing on one important detail. 2024 will be a very special year. Just look it up.

2024 is the Chinese Year of The Dragon.

I don't see any better market opportunity to sell an "reptilian " (Argonian) themed chapter tbh.

A lot of Dinosaur / Dragon / Reptilian themed stuff (movies games books etc) is scheduled to be released in 2024, as this type of stuff will have best possible opportunity to sell well during Year of The Dragon.

ZOS marketing teams would be actually kinda foolish not to take advantage of this huge Marketing Opportunity that happens very rarely. For example, last time we had year of the dragon was 2012 and Dragonborn DLC was released.

2024 would be the 1st opportunity for ESO to take advatage of this and without a doubt they will.

I bet they already have something planned for this. It is just too obvious

(Not a rumor or anything, just my guess & expectation).

I don't hate argonians, I hate the boring swamps with annoying plants that snare and pull you.

No more of it ever ,please.

Bosmer DLC first and it's big selling feature needs to be the return of Bosmer stealth.

2024 is the Chinese Year of The Dragon.

Given that they haven't followed the Chinese zodiac previously, I see no logic to your argument.
I mean, 2022 was a Year of the Tiger -- similar in significance to the same folks who see Dragon as such -- yet 2022 wasn't a Khajiiti year in-game...

And the in-game Year of the Dragon was 2019, yet the Chinese year was Pig.

        No correlation.

You are right, they might as well ignore it. But my point was rather like... if they will ever want to sell "something Argonian" then technically next year is the best opportunity they will ever have. If they will try to make Argonian chapter in 2025 or 2026 or later - then the sales will be defintly lower.

I play this game long enough to realise that "what players want" is not the most important factor. For ZOS, they probably calculate what will potentially provide best income. That is why we are getting 2nd Dunmer chapter, before we got Redguard, Wood Elf or Argonian (and those 3 definitely deserve "a Chapter" more than Dunmer). ZOS seems to be thinking that Nostalgia will be the factor here, that is why they are doing Morrowind 2.0 . Because Morrowind sold quite well. The mistake ZOS is making is that... I don't think many people will feel nostalgic about Telvani Peninsula. Same as they counted that many people will feel nostalgic about Blackwood & Oblivion stuff. It was not TES IV Oblivion. It was different. We did not got PvE Imperial City & Cyro.

Anyway... anything non - Dunmer or non - Khajiit that manages to be at least half as interesting as Murkmire was... I will be happy to see.

More argonian content is inevitable, as the end goal is to have a fully mapped out Tamriel by the time ESO dies. Black marsh is one of the only 5 provinces left with significant unexplored landmass, next to Cyrodiil, Morrowind, Skyrim and Hammerfell,
with High Rock and Elsweyr both having enough free space for one more DLC or maybe even a chapter.

The leftover area is big enough for 3-4 chapter/dlc, so it would be prudent to spread out Black Marsh chapter over the next decade and do an argo chapter the next couple of years, otherwise they will eventually get to a spot where their only course of action is to spam the same province over and over again. Which I think people would hate more.
Or the other option would be to do one giant BM chapter, but that would be deeply unsatisfying and a big waste of potential.

However, I'd really prefer if they ruminated a bit more on it tho, instead of rushing out a Murkmire 2.0 chapter, where they just copy paste the same assets from 2015 (*). Like how Necrom is shaping up to be Vvardenfell 2.0.
Really create some new vistas and ideas, and give a chance for lilmothiit to appear in some capacity.

Hammerfell is prob the most deserving of a dedicated chapter right now, I just hope ZoS can move past the idea of Hammerfell == desert. It supposed to have some luscious jungles too.

*A large percentage of Murkmire's assets was created for a scrapped adventure zone and was occasionally used in unrelated content, like in the Maelstrom Arena, before the release of the DLC. The real innovation that Murkmire brought to the table was the flora and fauna, hostile plants and new enemies.

Fun fact: Argonians are the only race who didn't get a new Wayshrine design with their dedicated content, ZoS opting to reuse the base game version instead. :P

I’d prefer more Redguard content. Argonians don’t really do it for me (I realize this is simply a personal preference and that others feel differently). With Mirkwood and Blackwood we have already had quite a bit of Argonian culture.

The main problem with both the Argonians and the Bosmer is that low civilizations dwelling in muddy swamps and forests don't really entice people to purchase expansions like the higher Tamrielic civilizations do such as the Dunmer, Aldmer, Imperials, Bretons etc which is undoubtedly a point of contention for ZoS. We also got a fair amount of exposure to the lore for the Bosmer in the base game.

Out of the three civilizations Redguard, Bosmer, and Argonian mentioned frequently in this thread I think the Redguard would be the best out of them to base an expansion. I'd personally love to learn more about the lost continent of Yokuda and its cultural descendants and we didn't learn very much about the Redguards in the base game or even in the Dragonguard expansions. Plus deserts and savannah are much easier to traverse than the Grahtwood or the swamps for my two cents.
