I was really hoping for story mode for dungeons, which would have given me hours more stuff to do.

As I said in another thread, the endless co-op dungeon better work with 1 player + 1 companion, or it'll be a useless feature for me.

The arcanist looks interesting, but it'll have to blow me away to make me want to play it over my main.

I would have preferred another location to Morrowind, since we've been there already. Having said that, the art looks stunning and I'm sure I'll enjoy exploring the zone.

The all-in-one attunable craft station sounds great and gives me hope that other QoL enhancements will really improve the game experience.

I don't care about the new companions. I haven't even finished levelling the last two.

I have mixed feelings about the reveal. I always welcome new story content, but I was hoping for something to really sink my teeth into beyond that. Maybe the new class will do it. I'll see.

Story mode dungeons would have been better. And I'm hoping the endless dungeon Rich teased will work for those of us who prefer to solo (and aren't living with or married to a gamer). Please balance it so that taking a companion will work (or scale the enemies based on whether it's 2 players or 1 player + 1 companion going in).

I've never felt this disappointed in a chapter reveal before. Probably mostly because it was spoiled (thanks). No new zone, it's just another Morrowind (at least my wife is coming back).

But the new end of year "feature" is an endless dungeon...? Two companions that looks boring, arcanist is just basically a spellcrafting class...With class identity out the window, achievements account wide, we could have just gotten a new skill line.

Ok so really excited for all the new stuff, class - companions all the zone and content but I'm stressed because I've used all 18 character slots and don't want to delete any and need 1 preferably 2 for the arcanist !!!!!

They don't go into it much. It's kind of a quick, blink and you missed it tease as they explained the new schedule for development.

I saw green lights, green filters, green effects, green skies... felt like most of the new region looks a lot like a cheap version of Amenos forest. Really, really awful.

But I'm curious about the new class, that also can spit flashy green things. (very creative)

Since this is a reaction thread, here's mine:

I like what they showed but for the first time I am left with wanting more to be honest.

There's some cool stuff, definitely but it's not fresh in the least. A new class, while it looks fun and has some interesting systems, is not something for me, but it's also nothing new, it's just another class but we already have classes. At this point I would have been more excited to see the combo system for arcanist implemented for all classes.

The coop dungeon, again, seems like a fun idea, it's something I wanted for a while but it doesn't feel like a tentpole feature that'll impact the entire game, it's just an endless dungeon much like how I like solo arena's. We'll play it for a few months and that might be it. Granted, we'll get more info on this later so it's too early to judge.

All in all, more of the same, I think ESO could have used something fresh for a change, the lack of PVP is dissapointing for me but not very unexpected, I can go without an update for another year although it would have guaranteed a lot more playtime if PVP got some fresh content.

So not bad at all, but definitely not great either.

This will be the first expansion I won't preorder.
Not a Dark elf nor Morrowind fan, nor do I need a new class or 2 more companions.
Also the teaser video gave me Western Skyrim combined with Blackwood vibes... Both expansions which I didn't enjoy much.
    So no, not this year...
    Total ESO playtime: 8325 hours
    ESO plus status: Cancelled

Here's my initial thoughts: I was expecting the reveal to be a new class, so I wasn't that surprised about it, though I thought it might have been a lich, a bard, or an aquamancer type of class. The arcanist looked interesting, the offensive/defensive/restorative lines sound like it might play like warden, but the skill visuals and animations looked a but mobile game-y (and cheap?) in my opinion, but it was just a small look, so I'm hoping I'll like them better in-game.

I don't know how big Necrom will be, but it's probably not as big for a chapter map, so I think the Apocrypha map will be really substantial, similar to how Blackreach was. The overland map did look a lot like Stonefalls and Vvardenfel, and I didn't really see the 'unique alien' atmosphere they talked about, but it was only a small glimpse, so we'll have to wait and see. It did seem like they were reusing assets, and as far as locations go, there were others that were much more requested, as well as races that haven't had their time in the spotlight yet. Also, I can't help but wonder if we'll ever go outside of Tamriel.

The thing that concerned me the most throughout the presentation was how much emphasis Matt Firor placed on the solo-player experience, and how much he talked about the game through the prism of the stand alone games. There was no mention of trials and only a passing nod to PvP and 'dungeon co op' (which I found it like kind of a weird phrasing). Group content and PvP are by far my favourite activities in the game, so this increasing focus on the single player experience feels a bit off, not to mention the constant effort to entice more players in because of the previous games.

All in all, after months of speculations the reveal felt a bit underwhelming, but I rather have something that builds up slowly and ends up being awesome, rather than something over-hyped that ends up being awful.

Oh, I definitely thought it might be a difficulty modifier for overland or something. But, I gotta admit, a new class does also fit that description. I can't quite decide if I like the new class or not.

Not really. You can level a new class from 1-50 with two to three zones, which leaves the other 20-25 untouched.

I'm mostly dissapointed. Another safe formula, another evil group, another daedric prince, another saving world questline (with High Isle they said that they want more grounded stories and even then it was a lie, next year they don't even try to pretend lol :D).

New class have cool animations, but I don't like another "DC/Marvel dark style" (I had dr. Strange meet Lovecraft flashbacks). I don't like necromaner, because it is like Disneyland necro theme park and now we have comic books theme park, nah.

Double nostalgia milking with TES3 Morrowind and TES5 DLC zones in one chapter.

I don't know what "endless dungeon with buddy" means but I don't have buddy to co-op, so I hope that it will playable solo whatever it is.

I'm interested in the Telvanni Peninsula part, but not the Apocrypha part. Don't care for Hermaeus Mora and don't care about proving myself to him.

I'm not sure the arcanist class is for me, but it does look interesting from what they showed.

I'm not a Lovecraft fan or into Eldritch horror, so honestly I am not sure how much I will enjoy this chapter.

This is just a reskinned chapter release. Nothing new. Don't care about new class because of account wide achievements. What's the point? Was hoping for something truly fresh, but didn't see it.

My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. Let’s talk about the positives and negatives unfortunately it’s heavily weighted towards the latter.

    Positives:
    • Telvanni peninsula and Apocrypha are desirable settings
    • Naryu
    • New class for the first time since Elsweyr

    Negatives:
    • Endless dungeons: Who asked for this?! After much speculation by the community I don’t think I ONCE saw endless dungeons as a system people wanted. These are often made up of prefabs stitched together and are repetitive as a result.
    • Still no vet overland: Hard to be excited for a new area when I know I can’t have fun or feel engaged going through it. Overland is too easy and boss stages are designed around this via stages that sees the player just standing there. This is desperately needed for both old content and new.
    • Class theme: Basing classes off of the chapter themes is extremely limiting. The Warden is very Morrowind focused and the Arcaneist is very Apocrypha focused. In the future please do more general themes like Battlemage, Necromancer, Knight, Thief, etc that’s not weirdly tied to one thing.
    • No new weapon skill lines: Classes are nice, new weapons are BETTER as they can be used by any character. I’d take new weapons over classes for the foreseeable future. Spears, 1H plus destruction, crossbows would all be welcome!
    • No combat improvements: Please actually fix the floaty combat, the weightless melee, the dinky animations. No arbitrary number changes. Meaningful changes to animation, sound and visuals.
    • Still no romanceable companions: Given the companions are a lizard and old man seems like that’s not happening this year either . If you do this please retroactively add it to all companions with new quests.
    • No old zone overhauls, new textures, models, visual upgrades etc. Would love to see Eastmarch and the Rift remade to look more like TES V. Make vanilla zones more in line with chapter zones in terms of texture quality and detail density.

I thought there was going to be some substantial change to the overworld. Having a new class doesn't really refresh the zone and bring people together. It just causes a fast grind to 50.

While the endless dungeon is welcome, I'm struggling to attribute the concept of Tentpole Feature to it. People will still run normal dungeons for set drops. I am going to assume then that the endless dungeon will be a more casually obtainable source of endgame sets for those who don't do trials. Perhaps you will have to farm sets inside the dungeon and attune to them for a certain number of floors before you can take them out of the dungeon to use elsewhere in the game. There has to be some carrot on the stick to make it a Tentpole.

They talked up two major features for the year, for which I thought even just one of the following three would have been a good step for the game:
    1. New Weapon
    2. Spellcrafting
    3. Vet Overland
They told us we had all been begging for a new class and procedurally generated dungeon instead. Well, okay then.

So the new zone? Can I be excited for that? Well they showed this:
    ss_cbfe9ede6e68ef3b0b9a6099d70a20edb9c4200d.1920x1080.jpg?t=1674676802
Which is a shocking amount of asset reuse from the game's first Chapter. I'm honestly not sure if any asset from this screenshot is new outside of Necrom. And while Necrom itself looks great:

Oh right, that was the Tamriel Rebuilt mod team's design for Blacklight. Cool cool. Well, they accidentally deleted Blacklight from ESO's map so if they were going to copy the mod team's design, it had to be for a different city I guess.

All in all, this reveal tasted about as good as I imagine those cabbage biscuits would taste.
    giphy.webp

    MY ENTIRELY UNEDUCATED GUESS-THEORY:
This year is largely asset reuse and "bug fixes and polish" (lol, you don't ask artists and level designers to work on QOL and bug fixes instead. Those are different job roles. Stop buying that excuse for why they are producing less content this year with no change to the subscription price) because next year is the 10th anniversary of ESO. I think that's where the big focus is right now, and they're hoping the new class is enough to tide people over while they work on a legitimately very impressive 2024 Chapter. Or I'm high on copium because I don't like seeing my favourite MMO struggle to tread water. But I'll go with the 2024 hype thanks.

I'll have to think about it over the next week or two to see if more information comes out but, at the moment I'm leaning against buying it and I think it might be time to take a break from playing.

Normally, I would think going to the Telvanni Peninsula and getting a new class would have been appealing to me enough to buy it but, the Hermaeus Mora focus of both is a massive turn-off and neither the companions nor the co-op endless dungeon struck my interest at all.

    Well. Overall reaction:
Glad I didn't get excited for this one. It's a mixed bag of things and none of it really moves me. I still have necromancers I barely use back from when Elsweyr released so I doubt I will get much use out a new class.

The new companions are interesting but I will probably do their quests and never touch them again as I have already spent a lot of time levelling and building my main companion and I don't really need another one.

Not even that interested in the story this year because of the way returning characters have been treated of late and I dread the amount of awkward flirting that's inevitable from Naryu.

Don't hate it but I'm not excited for it.
