I'm also sure that we can look forward to the existing class toolkits getting some strategic nerfs to carve out a place in the meta for the new Arcanist. Sorry if that sounds pessimistic, but after Wardens and Necromancers, let's just say that ZOS has a track record of doing exactly that.

Well, they literally stole major mending out of templar's passives for warden, so... yes, this is exactly what will happen.
