Just think about this for 5 sec...

What if, ZoS release API to allow addons cast Skills? Yeah. Like Macro.

Many players have problem with rotation. ZoS give us OakenSoul. Now we have nice damage, and we can do almost any content ingame... maybe all, i dont know. But, even now, 85% of players, dont like who use Oakensoul. And why? Cuz now, we only have 6Skills. lol!

So... What will be the problem if ZoS allow addons cast skills( yeah, macro).

-Anyone will make perfect rotations
-Anyone will have TOP Damage
-All players need to do is avoid AOE
-Anyone will love others

Will you all be happy? Or what will make you sad if this happens. Tell us please!

I know ZoS will never allow this... but, what if!?

I agree with you at 100%. ZoS should disable\remove all kind of addons ingame. Cuz this will solve so many problems

I really dont wanna enter in offtopic.
But im not talking about Damage at all. Cuz i see many players with onebar doing better then guys with very nice parse+rotations. Topic is not about damage.

Topic is about Players who allways find excuses to avoid one-bar users. Simple as this!

-I see onebar users with more damage as 2bars.
-I see onebar users die less in trials then who use 2bars
-I see onebar users doing better mech then 2 bar users
    and etc...

But... players allways find excuses to avoid them. allways!

So, once again.... How bad it will be if ZoS give API to allow addons cast Skills.

I have no problems with macros being in eso for 2 activities specifically; in your home against dummies to test the most optimal damage for your current setup, and the second being specifically during PTS for the same reason. Otherwise, I don't think it should be a thing in the game because it undermines the idea of games being games, and learning a game to become better at it makes you do better in the game.

    One note; if macros existed in housing specifically for testing against dummies, I think it should be this;
you set up your skill bars. You have a dialogue box that comes up that you can put info in; you tell the dialogue box your rotation, what skills to use and when (for example, you can set a skill or potion for use on cooldown, or set a skill to be used when the timer runs out, and you can set skills to be ignored during execute phase as an example), and it will do that rotation with perfect LA weaving, or medium attack weaving (if you set it for that), and will then parse until one of two things happens; either 1. you run out of resources and then it stops, or 2. the dummy dies. It's completely automated, like a TAS run of a speedrun for informational purposes. You set what you want it to do, it does the parse at the click of a button, and then you get the results. It should have no other utility than that.

If you could do that, you'd get to see if a new setup is good in minutes rather than hours. More builds would probably come from this, because players would get to test weird and wacky stuff without needing the skill to pull it off without hurting the community that actually can pull it off.

I went to my chess club last night and I told them I wanted to participate in the club championship tournament this year. I also told them that I'm not very good at chess and mentioned that I would bring my computer to make it a little more interesting. You know... raising the floor and all that jazz. They just laughed at me and told me to *** off.
    Was it something I said?

Everyone has his/her personal limits and everyone should accept their limits. The moment I realize that I am not good enough to play certain content despite practicing and trying, I will accept that and stop playing that content. I would not even remotely think about asking for artificial help to boost my skills.

ZOS already tossed oakensoul into the ring and now you are suggesting to let the computer take care of what's left to do?

My 2 cents (and I am a bad player): If I wanted my computer to play the game why bother to play it anyhow? I could just program that the computer is doing everything, the questing, the farming, the fighting or any other ing.

A big part of the fun is to achieve something. Some things are too hard for me so I dedicate my time to those parts that I am good in and the rest is just for fun.

No. At that point, it is no longer a game it is a slightly interactive movie. Besides, rotation is not so simple. There are reactive skills and it may also differ depending on that enemies you’re facing, how many, how far away, etc.

And for the last time I think you’re overstating how many people don’t like oakensoul. I’m sorry you had a bad experience but I’m seeing endgamers who do well with 2-bar rotations switch to oakensoul HA build just because it does same dps with way less effort. At least half the PUGs in dungeons I end up with are also oakensoul HA builds. I’m seeing all oaken HA dungeon and trial trifecta runs. You keep making threads about a non-issue, the people still complaining about oakensoul are the ones behind of the times.

Actually, give his followup of "yeah, so they should ban mods entirely", it seems like he was trying to make a round-about "mods r cheating" argument.
(edit: which goes along with his "should they remove all mods" poll in the other thread)

Hmm. But he's also muddying it up with "oakensoul users are disliked".

Not sure what that has to do with "make mods into macros!" and "just ban mods entirely!". /shrug

The other day someone was suggesting an addon that shows you the most advantageous moves in ToT, now this.

I don't hate people who use Paul Oakenfold's ring, I just want them to be able to do their assigned tasks: to heal me and to kill that angry boss before it turns me into something resembling bloody mashed potatoes. I myself can't wear the ring to do hard content because the loss of 6 skills would be detrimental to myself and the team, but I've been putting it on for easier dungeons.

No, an addon that did the rotation for the player would be unfair to those who took the time and effort to practice and improve. Not everyone can achieve perfect rotations, but then not everyone is expected to be able to clear the most difficult content.

Have I got it correct? The thread is about ZOS could possibly do what they will never do, so ban the addons, isn't it?
May I be the next with topic "When I come through the duel I'm not in PVP, but I can imagine I'm in PVP due to that, so ban duels"?
Let's rush a festival of sophism and straw :)

Well, addon usage is a complex topic. But if you ask me, it should be discussed without pure manipulation.
    Addons really have cons:
    1. Addon may grant advantage to player. Rmember the Miat's PVP notifier? I do.
What to do? My answer: trust developers.
ZOS removed the part of the API which allowed it's part working. I think people can add some more samples, when problematic addons was disabled by ZOS developers. So ZOS aware about possible problems here and make their fixes.
    2. Addon may raise server load. Various merchant aggregators, inventory managers, old style dismantlers can make way more requests at a time from one player than usual.
    What to do? Trust developers.
Actually ZOS protects their servers from such avalanche of requests. Were you booted from server due "too many requests" when updated your guild trader history too fast? I was. So ZOS aware and fix it too.
    3. Addon may affect players' cooperation dramatically. TTC and MM change the market. People with loot monitors stalk others for items. Raid helpers serve to elitistic gatekeeping in endgame.
What to do? Adapt, communicate with people, report inappropriate behaviour.
All the above is rather about people and choices than about addons. Addons are not the unique way to check the item price or detect low damage. If some addons really raises toxicity in community in some way, it should be checked individually.
    4. Addon cause game errors.
What to do? Choose your addons carefully. Also be sorry for poor broken-addon user.
Is someone has broken his gameplay with bad addon, that's his problem. It barely can affect your game. If it is, report it immediately. We can think about amount of false bug reports to support due to addons, but I don't have any stats about it. ZOS has, and they didn't ban addons for all those years. Any guess why?

    Addons have pros:
    1. Addon may raise quality of life and so game population.
You lack some interface things or minimap in game? Use addon. That's why people make addons. So we have some people who stayed in game further.
    2. Addon may allow game developers check if some feature is really popular before implementing.
Multiple item dismantling, two-level filters in inventory, guild trader filters. It's just some of features that came to ESO as addons before being implemented in core interface. Would they have been implemented on consoles if there hadn't been such addons on PC? Only ZOS knows.
    3. Addons save time, that would've been spent on routines, and make players happy.
Many many addons works mainly as time savers. Watch item price fast, check which alt holds the item you need, check your location in a moment without opening a map, setup the same hotkeys on all characters. Everyday actions which would've eat summary hours of our game become faster and easier.
Is that straw about "ZOS possibly could do" really worth a happiness of thousands and thousands?

The flaw in the argument just prior against "useful" addons is that the ones that go away seem to be the useful ones.

While many things in the game remain dubious. (Why do I get knocked down even if I am outside the indicated hit window? The devs made that.)

I assume the devs make the best decisions they can, but they are not perfect humans, so they will not always get everything exactly correct. That is the nature of things.

    "Unfair"? Really?

I don't think we will ever see it, but not because it is "unfair". HarvestMap is "unfair" to those who spent skill points on the "see stuff' skills. So what? It is a useful addon that really should be in the game itself. They could take it away, but it would raise quite a bit of an outcry now since it has been around for so long.

Too many jump to the "unfair" reasoning far too quickly.

I am never going to have an optimal rotation, so is the game "unfair" to me? (No practicing enough won't negate my eye-hand coordinating challenges.)

I was refering to the bunch of people who said that they are unable to deal with bar swapping and juggling dots for whatever reason and that oakensoul finally allowed them to be competitive.

But to answer your initial question: as you certainly know, they did nerf the ring, yes. But it is still good enoug to deal a significant ammount of damage as Soarora pointed out.

Sorry, but using macros for DPS is like buying ready made meals. Yeah you get something in your belly but, for me at least, i rather eat dry and stale bread.

One has to work to get top dps the same way as you have to work to get the best gear and the top ingredients for your food and pots. DPS is also not everything, you can have CP2500+ players, hitting a ton on a dummy, but in trials they still end up dead on the floor. And a dead DD is as good as no DD.

I seem to recall some game had macro ability built in. Maybe it was SWG? Not sure; but it was not as used as people think as game mechanics can be made that modifying your planned sequence on the fly is better than letting it continue on when it's gone wrong.

PvP it would be largely impossible for a macro to be reliable with CCs and roots flying around, as an example. But then reserving it for just short burst combos or ganks would still be possible so I guess ultimately, probably not a good idea
