Returning Player from 2017 Should I Play on PC or PS5? Need Advice

I played from 2016-2017 on PS4 according to my account info. I now own a PS5 and a high end gaming laptop. I'd prefer to play on the laptop for portability while I travel, but I'm wondering if the playstation population is better in game? If so, I might just lug my PS5 around the country with me. Any insight would be appreciated as I make my choice. No, I don't care about my old account, as it's been so long I pretty much forgot everything. I'm looking to start fresh and relearn the game as I go. I'm sure tons of stuff has changed over the last 5 years and it's probably not what I remember anyway. Is there any benefits to playing on one system or another?

the only major thing really would be that the PC and PS accounts are different, so if you got a PC account you would have to start over essentially while i think the PS4/PS5 would share the same account

PC also has addons lol, but you would also have to make sure your laptop was capable of running elder scrolls too, just in case lol

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

I am of course biased, but I have dabbled in this game on console and played PC extensively since Beta. IMO, PC is vastly superior for a million reasons.

I really only see two reasons to chose console (both are perfectly valid reasons):

    1. You can't afford a gaming PC.
    2. You have specific people you want to play with on console.

    End of list.

I gave up significant progress (and lots of stuff, including many Crowns - still irritates me) to restart on the PC.

Not sure I am going to stay here, but while the game looks wonderful on the PS5 (which I finally got a while back) it plays MUCH BETTER (in my view) on the PC, with addons.

I cannot speak to PC populations, but PS is still busy just about everywhere but the base game zones.

If you are looking for competitive experience stick to console despite the worse server performance atm. If you just wanna chill bet on pc.

I've been playing (and still play) on PS since console launch, went back to my PC account a couple years ago where I started, but still play mainly PS (too hard to give up so many years). I'd say go to PC, everything is better, nicer community-IME, addons, performance. The only thing that isn't that great, is the prices, everything is more expensive.

As someone who plays both Xbox and PC I'd say if your laptop can handle whatever add ons you want go PC. I mainly play my Xbox because I have so many years and SO MANY CROWNS with housing etc but if zos ever offered a move I'd swap it to PC in a heartbeat. Too many conveniences.

Although it hasn’t shown yet, the fact that Microsoft have the helm now may mean that Sony customers don’t get listened to so much. PC is a safer bet for future play.

Some of us made the transition anyway, but it is an annoying point that so much was abandoned when making that switch (PS4 -> PC)!

Yeah, I was actually gifted a high end computer the same time I upgraded my Xbox when they came out(used to play EQ back in the day and my wife surprised me with the gaming PC) Ive tried but I just can't let go of all the years and probably a few thousand in crowns just to start over. The PC account is convenient but.../shrug. I play single player on the PC.

This statement is crap for one main reasons, cost. The cost of entry is still higher on PC for similar performance. Two years ago it would have cost a PC gamer around $1800+ to create a similar setup that the current generation console offered. Today that cost is still above $500 making consoles the better buy.

Since the OP has a gaming laptop and PS5, I would go with PS5 simply because it has a higher gaming population on ESO than PC does.

Depending on your free money, you might want to try both. Getting on the PC during the Black Friday sale would have been cheaper, but you can likely find it competitively now.

Though I agree you may just want to stick with the PS5 if you are happy there.

Too bad I can't at least resell my Crowns on the PS4/PS5 for something other than gold there....

I moved over to PC from PS back in February and don't regret it for a second. When they started releasing PS ports for PC I even decided it was redundant to have both so I sold my 15 month old PS5 for more than I bought it for. My top reasons were:
    1) a relatively modest gaming PC can run the game with graphical specs beyond what the enhanced PS5 version offers. The PS5 "quality" setting is only 30fps and still doesn't match what a PC looks like with everything set to max.
    2) I see quite a few names I recognize from PS on PC as they've now switched over as well, so I'd guess the population on PC is more robust.
    3) No charge for connecting to the servers as opposed to being required to have PS+ to play on console. The free PS game each month is negated by the fact PC gets free games from the different companies every month just like PS+ does (often more and better games too) without requiring a monthly service.
