Is the new gameplay feature Vet Overland?

What do y'all think? I would wager this has been the most requested feature over the years.
Add a Scribing skill that works like Arcanist beam.
---
Veteran players have been alienated and disengaged from Overland since One Tamriel, due to the lack of difficulty, and pushed into dungeons and trials; the minority of content in the Elder Scrolls Online. We can't take the repetition anymore, fix Overland engagement for Vet players. I don't even care if it's not combat related anymore, just make Overland engaging again.
---
Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 10 years. 6 paid expansions. 25 DLCs. 41 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. Make a self debuff mythic. Literally anything at this point.

You could probably get rid of the no option since it's kind of the same thing as it's probably something else.

I hope it's something else - becaise I have no faith that if it's vet overland it will be a slider or other way to opt out. I like overland the way it is now.

I don't know what all of the major fuss is about wanting overland content to be harder. Should it be harder? Yeah. Is it such a big deal that people would want it to be the major feature of the year, I absolutely hope not.

IMO, giving adds 60k more health and bosses 500k more health isn't going to make overland content more fun (unless they give all the 2,000 plus bosses different mechanics which they are not gonna do) - its just gonna take 30 minutes to finish a quest/delve/etc. instead of 20. If you dont enjoy the content as it is now (or even if you do), it taking longer to kill enemies and adds isn't going to add that much at all.

If they want to make overland content better, they're gonna have to do things that MMOs traditionally don't do.. give the AI better AI, drastically increase the distance they can travel and they roam, give them much better drops, have them encounter NPCs and fight with them - things that happen in single player TES games.

I dont think you really play mmos for the overland experience. Its just a small piece of the pie.

If it was a difficulty slider I would set it to as easy as possible, I actually like one-shotting NPCs and feeling powerful.

You know either way it would only be accomplished by either making you weaker or stronger, it would not touch the NPCs at all because it is shared content, in that case just take off your armor, weapons or stop slotting CP, you would get the exact same experience.

It's a pinned topic on the forum for a reason, I think that makes the most sense. I wouldn't call a class a "new feature" new classes are an existing feature. I guess it could be spell crafting but it seems like it would be hard to balance and frankly I think it's a horrid idea.

Maybe re-doing vanilla zones as they are rather ugly at this point and the contrast between chapter zones and vanilla zones makes for an inconsistent experience.

It's a pinned topic because the mods got tired of people complaining about 3 or 4 separate threads about it every day, not because it was planned to happen. IF it happens, I do hope it will be optional.

Also if it does happen I really hope it isn't the advertised new feature but instead a feature included with one of the smaller updates, not one of the big ones.

If it's vet overland content, I hope you dont come here in the forums and complain that you can't kill anything and do what you said you'd do. Leave because you're not enjoying the game anymore. And I really wish they don't make this optional. I'm getting tired of people complaining that they need to group. THIS IS AN MMORPG. Group.

The chapter will probably be a new class, but I really hope that the update in Q3/4 is going to make vet overland content harder or if not like they did with craglorn before, so that not everyone can just solo everything in this game. Also getting tired of one shotting overland content without even thinking about it.

Y'all do remember that there was a Vet Overland once right? Few played it so it was scrapped with One Tamriel.

Honestly I think this would have a worse reception than tales of tribute did if it was released as a major feature, especially if it didn't have additional rewards or some other incentive.

    I strongly doubt it.

That would be the type of thing you toss out as an oh by the way you can do x now rather than as a marketed feature because it's got a pretty high chance to end badly.

It's highly likely that Veteran Overland would end up either being too easy for much of the vocal audience or too hard for everyone else to want to bother with it leaving lots of complaints if it's the big feature.

You also ram into the issue that the idea of harder content is frequently more appealing than the reality. You'll notice lots of people run companions in Overland even though it reduces the difficulty. Sure, I occasionally run content without a companion to make things a bit harder for specific content but, most of the time I don't because for much of the content in ESO I just want to burn through it fast.

I let my companion do all the killing and I just collect the rewards. Why one shot a public dungeon boss when I can watch the AI do it for me haha it makes watching the big bad story villains die more interesting.

I'm guessing Yes simply because all it would take are some DB scripts, one UI change and some new instancing to make this happen. It's a relatively low amount of effort to implement given the skeleton crew working on the game nowadays.

It would be great to have some intricately designed options for harder difficulty, replayable and with new rewards and titles. If harder overland is announced this way then devs probably come up with something cool on how to address one of the longest complaint about the game main selling point.

I have my doubts the letter was about it being a thing as chapter feature though. Imho, it sounds more like a new class. Maybe for Q4?

In any case, I don’t want to hype myself up too much and then being frustrated for it to not being worth it. Maybe new feature is something else entirely and “highly requested” is just a buzz word, (which was used for cards game too though it wasn’t requested or discussed by a lot of people) referring to something nobody thinks about.

I am fairly sure that the most requested, or at least the most discussed in here, would be Global Auction House. :)

Honestly, I question whether the "one of the most requested features" will even be in the top 10.

eh. Giving trash mobs more hp and damage? Nah. They'd have to rebuild every enemy to make them more engaging.
I'd rather we got more impactful and interesting new features.

So IMO, making “vet overland” isn’t just like making overland with a hard mode switch or toggle.

Assuming they add a difficulty slider/tier system, let’s say they add 2 or 3 total difficulties: If I am roaming in overland world on the “low difficulty”, what happens if I come across someone in a higher tier difficulty beating a world boss or fighting in the same quest as me? Can this even be done in the same world/instance? There’s no way that’s reasonably possible!

Therefore, you are (most likely) now segmenting the population across all platforms into multiple instances based on what difficulty they have selected. So instead of having people on each server run a few instances, it’ll now have to sub divide that even more per difficulty tier they add. Then you have to keep the game interesting enough to keep each of the different difficulty levels enticing/populated.

Plus the balancing of everything would be a nightmare. Do you add multiple difficulty levels to overland only? What about Cyrodiil PvE fights? IC PvE fights? Is this “vet overland” just for quests, or for delves and WB’s too? What about dragons in Elsweyr?

I would personally be okay with vet/difficult overland content, but I don’t trust ZOS to successfully implement a vet difficulty system. And that’s not even a criticism of ZOS, it just sounds like a nightmare.

The overland mobs at the very least need more damage and better AIs. I shouldn't sit still at an overland elite mob and have it unable to kill me. Mobs need to stop sitting and light attacking and doing almost no damage. I agree keep their hp low for tanks and healers, but at least make the encounter exciting. An overland mob should be able to kill you and do skills like stuns/fears/debuffs etc. Yall the mobs in Wow, NW, and FF are way way stronger than our mobs.

I would agree tho a feature should be way more substantial that that. Increasing the damage overland mobs do or increase their scaling would suffice.

Hopefully not. And honestly, that wouldn't solve anything. Having a Normal and Veteran overland option is basically choosing between nFG1 and vFG1. Doesn't matter if it's Norm or Vet, there's still 0 mechanics and 0 challenge. Things just hit harder and take less damage. The closest thing to Veteran overland we had was old school Craglorn, which, while fun and unique, segregated players that simply didn't want to play with other people, or who weren't quite the greatest of players.

ZOS' current formula for this, I've noticed, is keep things the same, but make WB's and group related content more challenging, which I'm totally fine with.

As something that has an entire Quarter of the year dedicated to it, it's got to be something else. Someone in another topic mentioned it could be Spell Crafting, which is something that ZOS initially introduced a long time ago

You can find more info here: https://elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/Spellcrafting_(Online)

They even had a large list of possible spells you could craft. But alas, it never happened. I think this is the likely thing that will happen, as it'll also be long term via introducing more spells/ways to craft. But at the same time, Idk. Probably not. They're already struggling GREATLY trying to balance and fix their game. Class identity doesn't even exist at this point as it is. There's a reason new classes are rare. It's just more stuff on ZOS' already overwhelming plate to try and balance. So probably not Spell Crafting, as cool as that would be. I honestly can't think of something that the community is begging for that'd require a whole Quarter slot per year for. But I'm interested in seeing what it is now. Hopefully not more card games.....
