I read it but to me it was a lot of the same platitudes ZOS has been using for years. I've reached the point that I don't give any credibility to what ZOS says as they've failed to live up to their comments so many times before. This time only actions will let me decide if I will come back and buy the next chapter or skip another as ?I did High Isle.

Only noticed it thanks to this poll.

Feels to me mostly like more of the same trust us, we will do it right this time, that was in the past few years letters.

As for the content for 2023, was hoping for a new class, do like the return to multiple year storylines, just hope the chapter has at least the same amount or more questing content than the usual chapter and DLC has.

I am largely reserving judgement on the second half of the year until I learn what the new system they are planning for at the end of next year.

If this is what I think it is they are going for the vocal minority and it will cost them their core player base.

But hey whatever I've pretty much stopped caring.

If I'm not misinterpreting it they are effectively cutting two dungeons, one landmass, and a bunch of non-repeatable quests from the yearly rotation.

    Why I'm excited:
    1. Less sweeping changes every 3 months. I really want to settle into my characters and let them grow over time. Not having so many releases is going to help me with that, will let me take a slower and more appreciative approach.
I don't want to dampen spirits. Just for clarification, and in case I read it wrong: at no point did Mr. Firor say they wouldn't be changing stuff each quarter. Those sweeping changes to builds/characters can still happen.

The Crafting Bag alone is worth the price of the sub. I still have no idea how people play without it.

And unless you have somehow already bought the other 999 DLC entries then you're still maintaining access to those with it. Yes, the output of new DLCs decreases but that is a very myopic and odd way to evaluate the utility of your sub.

Not having new zones and new quest lines? The players I chat with in discord are greatly disappointed by this direction. Sure don't have broken up chapter stories but wait that is what you are planning on doing a continuous non-ending storyline. No new environment hmmmm.......best be a damn good system they are planning to keep folks. And not a redo of Diablo where you can do a story line over with increased difficulty. Hmmm zone instances in normal or vet so we can have even less folks around. Not really sure who they are listening to about the game certainly not the folks I chat with who are all long time ....like from Beta on or at least 4 yrs of playing.

I have bought all but 1 of the other dlcs. So the value of my sub has decreased.

Well, then I better understand your particular point of view but I don't think that that's how the majority of subs spend their Crowns.

After all, why buy the DLCs a la carte if you're already subbed? Isn't that just hedging against stopping your sub at some point in the future? If you feel as though the value is no longer there then it seems as though you will be able to safely un-sub and not miss much (apart from the Craft Bag, which, if it were me, would still be a deal-breaker on un-subbing, haha).

Yes. Sometimes I stop my sub because I don't like the direction of the game, and then re-up when I do. I don't mind playing without the craft bag, but it's definitely the main reason I sub at all. Also I like to be prepared.

The craft bag (and access to the Q4 DLC before they started giving it away for free) are the main reasons I subscribe to ESO+. I also like the increased bank space.

BUT...there's no denying that unless they rejig ESO+, the new direction is a subscription price increase. Before, let's say you got A,B,C,D, and E for your sub. Now you'll be getting A,B, and D only, but for the same price you've always been paying. I can't think of another circumstance under which most consumers would accept that. Same subscription price, but less stuff.

Either the sub price should decrease, or they need to add something new and useful. Not just another free item in the crown store every month, or a non-combat pet to add to the oodles we don't use. Something that compensates for not getting access to a new dungeon DLC and a new story DLC every year. Those aren't trivial things to lose.

    Okay, I have mixed feelings.

I'm glad to hear any communication and even acknowledgment of the recent struggles. I wish we would get more communications throughout the year. I personally liked the year-long structure, but I know a lot of people don't, so hopefully that will make them happy.

In general, I'm still hopeful that ZOS will be able to restore the faith of some of the community members who have been frustrated lately. I do think ZOS tries to listen to the community and keep them happy (which they know is especially important next year), but I don't think they always hit the mark. Granted, with a huge and diverse player base, you'll always have some people who are unhappy with or apathetic to changes and new content. And people tend to be more vocal when they're upset.

Devoting time to addressing issues and bugs is important. There are also QoL changes I would like to see implemented. However, I'm a little dubious about devoting a whole quarter to these things. We'll see.

I'm both excited and nervous about the new system they will be introducing in Q4. Their systems usually find a fanbase, but sometimes it's a smaller portion of the community than anticipated. I also don't know if a new system (especially if it is one that doesn't affect my playstyle) will feel like enough for a quarter that used to add a whole new zone and questline.

I'm not thrilled that the balance of content is swinging away from hand-crafted quests to systems. The stories and new zones are my favorite releases. (Losing the dungeon DLC doesn't affect me much, to be honest.) I need to know what the new systems look like. It sounds like trials and arenas are also considered "systems," and that ZOS is using that term very broadly.

He mentioned that new players feel overwhelmed and vet players (end-game players, I assume) want more systems. What about players who have been here a long time and are still working through the stories? Quests are also not "one-and-done" for me because I play through them on multiple characters who make different choices. I would actually like to see more stories with meaningful choices and actual choice-based effects in the game. Then maybe the quests would feel less "one-and-done" for others too.

Brilliant. :) You get to invest even less effort and quality into ESO and on top of it, advertise it as something grand and positive.

    I've read it.

I want to know what this "highly requested feature" is. New weapons? New Skill line? New class? New race? New PVP zone/activity for the PVP'ers? New... something to add to the core gameplay?

I also want to know what they planning on doing in terms of new content in already existing zones? Does that mean old zones will be getting updated? Does it just mean new daily quests? New public dungeons? New arenas?

And more importantly than all of that.... are there any new guar.

Did people ask for less content or fewer changes to existing content? Because I think it's the later... Although reversing some of the worse excesses of U35 would be a change that was much welcomed!

Less content to work on so hopefully actually works, polished, and better story. Also new systems is always nice.

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

Finally, a return to the multi-year story arc. Daedric War trilogy was the pinnacle of ESO. And while I have doubts they can repeat that level, it's definitely a step in the right direction. Chapters with their own complete stories, that at the same time contribute to the bigger overspanning arc over several years, IMO is way better than these isolated "year-long adventures" that are "year-long" only because they artificially cut the ending from the chapter into separate DLC.

The declaration about shifting the focus from the story content to the repeatable grind content got me worried at first. But if it means the transition to the multi-year arcs, I am fine with it. Less content a year is a clear sign of less resources allotted for ESO though.

If they're actually serious about what they say, then it could be a big deal.

The year long story was good in concept because it kept things organized and made it easier on the creative team to come up with a theme each year, as opposed to trying to come up with something new every update. But IMO, that also killed it because it forced the writers to purposely drag the stories out, effecting the quality of the overall story immensely. High Isle yearly story was trash. Blackwood yearly story was good in concept but poorly executed. Greymoor yearly story was also trash but the ending of it was okay. All my subjective opinion, of course.

As I've stated in the past, ESO's story telling truly shined with the Morrowind trilogy. Morrowind, Clockwork and Summerset felt great on their own, but all tied together into one large story with an epic ending that had huge stakes (stakes so high we'll likely never see anything like it again, tbh, but that's okay). When they released dungeons, they each had their own unique environments and stories separated from the year long story, which I really enjoyed. Scalecaller and Fang lair were the best IMO, but looking back at say, Shadows of the Hist. Yeah, I miss those days of dungeons.

I think they'll pull it off. [Snip] IE, when it's plagued with bugs, and you have a combat/balancing team that is so out of touch with their content and community that it makes players want to commit toaster-bath. They're incredibly hypocritical and can't even clear their own content on HM. 1-800-COME-ON-NOW.

Having said that, with the exception of their atrocious combat/balancing team and coders, they really do listen to their community and introduce a lot of cool stuff. They have the best outfit system, the best housing system, they introduced Transmutes, Collections tab, Account-Wide Achievements, etc. Like, they've done a lot of great things for the community. Their biggest failure so far with QoL is the Armory system. Skills/Gear swaps should've been a FREE QoL update that worked exactly like the Outfit system, where PC and Console players get 1 free slot and can buy additional ones so ZOS can generate revenue without completely screwing the community. Something they can change in their menus. Instead, we got the Armory system.....

Anyways, the fact that Q3, an ENTIRE quarter is dedicated to QoL updates and Bug fixes. That's huge. And that shows they are listening, even if they have some employees who don't. I'm interested to see what this new Q4 update will be. They've recovered from worse. They'll get back on their feet. Just sucks they had to steep so low before realizing their mistakes. Trial and Error, I suppose.

They still need to fix the Armory system doe, lol.

    Yes. I read it.

However, words are just that -- words. Veteran players like myself MUST see action. U35 was bad but we learned how to semi claw our way back from it with little to no support or answers. (There's some irony that this Deaf player is having to stress the importance of communication...but I digress).

U36 has actually been more painful because we are seeing an ESO version of quiet quitting happening. And it's more painful because it is absolutely in slow motion. You know the people who are leaving. You know that it's coming down the pipeline, you just don't know when. And we all know why. It's the same reasons that have been hashed out time and time again.

Actions will determine where we go from here, not words.

I really do love the game. While I do think it's hit a slump for players like me who don't have much left to progress towards, I don't think it'll take that much to breathe new life into it and get me excited again. A system like spellcrafting, for example, would suck me right back in. All that to say I'm feeling pretty optimistic, and choose to give the dev team the benefit of the doubt.

I'd love a Quarter dedicated to QoL additions and bug fixing, perhaps then a lot of our wishes will actually bear fruit. Such as giving the Console client more Settings Options! LET ME MOVE MY CAMERA UP AND DOWN PLEASE.

Also to mention, Season of the Dragon wasn't the first multi Chapter story arc, it was the Daedric War starting in Morrowind thru to Summerset. Hopefully with a return to that mindset, next year's Chapter might actually be interesting. Hope it's southern Hammerfell, or Whiterun Hold.

The no Q4 zone DLC bit and Q3 focus not on content, that I do believe. The rest I'll believe it when I see it.

Quarter 4 is somewhat scary. No one is asking for a new system. We play the game because we like the system. Quarter 2 and Quarter 3 are fine, because we need the bug fixes, new features but not at all a new system that will break all addons and might bring problems to players, like me, on low end computers. They are risking to lose many players with a new unwanted system. I really hope that it never happens. If I wanted a new system I'd pick a different game, If I'm still playing this after 8 years it's because I want and enjoy the same system. I believe that changing it might be the ruin of this game.

Tales of Tribute was this year's new system. A system can be as simple as the crafting dailies. We usually get at least 1 new big system a year, the only difference is that they moved it to Q4 instead of the chapter.

We're getting new systems virtually every year so you probably misinterpreted. Companions, tot etc. are new systems. Might be not what many of us wanted but those were implemented anyway for the benefit of others.
