Constructive PvP Statement

garrsstephen
The main problem with ESO, isn't actually ESO's fault. It's consumer habits, most players (mainly PvP) like short and sweet activities, can I jump in and play a 10, 15, 20 minute match? No you can queue this just for a BG's, ZoS need to bring template based competitive PvP that is detached from the MMO part of the game. Something interesting for viewers to watch, that could bring in a ESports crowd that would boost content creators views and bring more players to the game. This should not be locked behind a paywall and be accessed to all.

From observations made on other games and talking to other members of the gaming community, they really like 'splash screens' that show the winning team posing or killcams.

This might seem crazy but you could even make this a free to play part of the game just like how Activision created Warzone as an example.

Everyone's thoughts?

PVP offering is actually very good.

The problem is the ongoing performance issues.

Once that is sorted (if it is ever sorted) then the conversation about additional content/mechanics can be held.

I remember reading a while ago someone suggesting the devs turn Cyrodill/IC into a "battle royale" style (Similar to Fortnite) and how that would bring in new players.

I hadn't thought about that in awhile until this topic brought up that memory.

ESO should stay as far away from the eSports scene as possible.

This product is not for that crowd and they don't belong here. There are already plenty of other games that cater to this.

Catering to an entirely different pvp audience will drive off the current one.

Making ESO some sort of esport means more nerfs to fun so... No.

Like peeps have been saying for years, fixing performance should be the primary agenda.

    Favorite Foods and Potions

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

A Skyrim-based battle royale game might be a fun idea.

Making it a feature of ESO, not so much.

Also, where are you getting "most players" from? I'm always wary when people make statements like that.

I'm of the consensus that pvp stability needs to be addressed first. I also believe that there needs to be a harder wall between pve and pvp, to cut down on the balancing issues.

Stability has to be first, because if a game is unstable the rest doesn't matter. That being said, the last time I ducked into Cyrodiil, within 10 minutes I saw a group all spamming Radiating Regen and decided I'd take another couple of months off.
Open world is beyond stale. Bad mechanics have been around for far too long and the only changes that are being made only serve to make things worse.
BGs could have been something, but they get neglected too.
Zos has a great combat system, it's just a shame that all they do with it is tweak dummy parse numbers.

Do people that like E-Sports like watching ESO's combat?

Splitting it off into a separate game would require a fair amount of resources.

If people don't like it, the content would also be DOA.

    This.

Cyrodiil is arguably the best large-scale PvP offering in MMO's currently released. But its not just the lag, at least on PC-NA. (I imagine that even if NA's performance rolled back, its still better than EU which didn't get new servers). The population of Cyrodiil as a whole is plummeting because casuals have nothing to play for.

They need make campaign scoring scale to population (to keep camps from turning into blowouts no one cares about) GH is supposed to be the hardcore campaign, but its the only one with a playable population right now.

Ravenwatch is so dead, the people who ruined it have abandoned it for Blackreach. Blackreach itself was slowly dying for months as well until the recent influx of RW players. If the non-hardcore campaigns continue to turn into massive blowouts every month, we're going to have more and more non-hardcore (squishy) players in GH...which means more PUGs getting farmed by ballgroups and more experienced small-scale and solo PvPers getting VD procced and having their gameplay ruined.

So no new pvp content until game closes then, since cyrodiil performance unlikely to be ever fixed

For everyone laughing at ESO catering for ESports, what is your argument against it? I use ESports as a loose term to include anyone wanting to watch competitive PvP, which brings in revenue through sponsorships, social media trending, content creators etc. All positives for game development. I'm specifically proposing the targeting of a, technically, dead game mode, and trying to proposed an idea to boost the overall popularity of the game.
  • garrsstephen
Role choice and template builds (using the armour system) could be implemented to ensure roles are stuck to, with lobby's for players to get ready (which in a way already exists at the start of a BG)
  • garrsstephen
No set grinding you choose and equipment. Alternatively you could use the PTS coffer system to add build diversity into the game, while restricting sets for roles still
  • garrsstephen
This also allows for stability of the game, by now that should be a given

This isn't that type of game.

The tag line for this game is "play how you want" and what you are suggesting goes entirely against it.

But it was, why do you think we have group roles in all content. I have no issue with play how you want, I'm not proposing to change the whole game, I am only saying to change one small part of the game, which I am afraid, is neglected and see if it impacts the game in a positive way.

Players should be open to change, developers should be open to change. This game is getting on for 8 years old and needs to keep up with the times or become extinct.

[snip] But we all know how much players hated the implementation of the last mini game. Not because it was bad. But because we can play these games somewhere else, and better. We need the devs and teams to focus on the game we already have and love. We should motivate them to focus on better performance, better quality control and high quality content. And not ask for free to play pay to win nonesense, because we will probably get that anyway...

I only state human nature, why else would we get new content quarterly and some of the biggest games ride off that endorphin high. Games are successful, not because of their ability to produce quality games (though it helps) but because they give players a quick fix. This is scientific fact. The issue with ESO is that it lacks this fix, so you end up with player fatigue, which definitely has happened and is acknowledged within the community.

I only propose a fix for this using mechanics already in the game, something ZoS have said can be realistically proposed.

People need to consider what's best for the whole game and not their own experiences. (Those these are important)

I agree the problem with PvP is not ESO's fault. Zenimax is the group responsible. The game is merely their product.

However, I'm afraid I have to disagree as to why. Players are not the problem at all. The game's performance is the main issue with ESO and has been for years. This is the only game where performance has declined with time. Even Zenimax (Rich or Matt) commented that one driver in the game's performance decline had been numerous added systems. Performance has been the primary driver pushing players from Cyrodiil.

This is why Zenimax is doing the re-architecture of the server-side game code.
