Would you like more choices in quests?

Why do we always have to be a good guy? Why can't we be evil or morally grey. What's the point of being a necromancer if you're forced to save the world and be a good guy?

I don't need more choices, but choices need to matter a little more, but then they would have to bring back in all the phasing and that sucks as you can't even play with friends.

When the game first launched almost every quest, or main quest for the hub had "red" choices. Problem is if you and a friend choose something different you could no longer see each other for the rest of that quest since you were now in different phases.

Since there is not Asystem that makes choices matter, it does not matter much that we do not have real choices. Even when I have seen choices in other games it is mostly superficial.

Would rather have more impactful choices, that we actually get to see the results of, or at the very least mentioned when we run into the characters involved again later on.

Don't get me wrong a quest with a lot of lore and single railroaded conclusion is fine but it would be nice to have some other quest types as well, that have more varied outcomes.

That give you not just a reason to do them again on another character but truly make you want to explore the other option/s, instead of "good ending" "bad ending", having a bunch of different resolutions to the quest.

I am not asking for every quest to be like that just a few well written ones in each new zone.

as it seemed to me, the choices in most quests, equally suitable for both good and evil options. It looks something like this:
choice 1 does good X, but does bad Y
choice 2 does good Y, but does bad X

So you get the classic moral dilemma either way.

I'd like some quests like the daedric ones in Skyrim and Oblivion, that make my character choose between a unique reward and a clean conscience.

Yes, but at the same time I realize how much time would go into making a spider-web of choices with impacts on different characters and later quest dialogue. The modding community in other communities know how to make more non-canonical choices for characters to change the impact, but as this is ESO we can't have the same luxury

Oh yeah, from a roleplay perspective I would love quests to have more options. It always annoys me that games rarely let you take the "evil" character path. I would love the option to be an agent of the bad guy instead of always the good guy.

I want choices that make a difference. It improves replayability to play out both options. Currently i just pick what looks like the fastest option because it makes no difference, if I can be bothered doing the quests at all.

If we get evil choices, then realistically, we should also have consequences for those evil choices, like the character should be penalised or banned for a period of time, right?

Of course, choices and reactivity are the meat of every RPG, online or not. If SWTOR was able to do it, ESO has no excuse. At the very least I would like more dialogue options than just 'me go', 'me do' and 'who is Azura'

Even for simple roleplay in tone. I would like more than
    1) Dialogue to advance quest
    2) Lore/Quest question
    3) Goodbye (End Talks)

We're not going to get serious branching choices that impact the plot and cost $$$ to animate/voice act. We're just not.

With that in mind, I have two comments:

    1. I'd like more dialogue choices that don't necessarily impact the plot, but do reflect a variety of character attitudes for role playing.

    2. I'd like to not be railroaded into dumb decisions, like Dark Brotherhood players being forced to tell Eveli about their membership in Blackwood. There should have been an option to [Lie] and get the same dialogue as the players who weren't DB members.

I'm not interested in that for myself, but if they added it for those who want to fine. But I seriously doubt they'll spend that kind of time and money this late in the game.

I'd love to see meaningful choices, but I'm aware it's hard in an MMO like this, so I'd settle for dialogue flavour choices (a bit like Dragon Age 2, where you could choose the tone of the answer). They wouldn't change outcome of the conversation or actions, but would give some roleplay quality.
Glory to you and your Dunmer House!

Yes the railroading can be so bad in this game; I'm trying to play a lawful good character and there have been multiple times where I've been railroaded into stealing things (the Dragonhold first quest, the Murkmire prologue) and being buddy buddy with a Morag Tong assassin. Just being forced to be buddy with some characters in general. Orsinium was good because I could hate on Eveli if I wanted to, lol.

Like, come on man why am I being forced to do things like this.

I would like more choices but at the same time because the choice consequences are limited, as they should be, I don't know if it really matters. This is an mmo, it will always have more limited story paths because quests need to be advanced for further content. Even with RPG's the story path can only get so diverse before it simply is too time consuming and costly on the creators. Take Mass effect, there are alot of little choices and some major ones but largely the story line is the same. You don't avoid whole planets because of a prior made choice, you still end up at every "checkpoint" in largely the same situation.

Provided i know what the outcomes of each choice are. The choice at the end of the mages guild questline. You can have a weapon or you get 2skill points in exchange of sheogorath keeping valaste. That was always a hard choice for me, but i knew the outcomes

More choices are good but I don't care that much about the 'good/bad' choices or 'choices having consequences'. My interest in more choices is pure roleplay.

My elf is a Paladin of Kynareth so don't make her ask some questgiver 'Who is Kyne/Kynareth?' to advance a questline and have to listen to 'NPCsplain' about how ignorant she is. She is also a skilled healer so don't make her go gather stupidberries to make a poultice to heal your mother when her spells are way more effective.

I know this will sound crazy but I want less.

    Less.

My brain becomes obsessed with wanting to know how each choice plays out, and there are so many quests with choices I wind up getting stuck because I have to google each and every outcome. I'm not satisfied with not knowing them all lol.

Some of the newer quests don't seem to have these choices and I'm thankful for it.

Anytime theres an option in a quest i take the 'bad' or less good one. But there really isnt enough of it in most quests to actually make me feel like my choice mattered. It would be cool to have some more choices with different outcomes.

If i remember correct it was the Vvardenfell questline that lets you choose which hero to join you for your adventure, i really liked that. Even though the outcome of the quest/story is the same, that small part added to the experience of the quest.

    Good topic op 😁

First of all, I'd like quests to have more dialogue options even if in the end these still led to the same end. There should be the option to be rude or morally questionable, if at least for roleplay reasons. It wouldn't hurt if player dialogue had some more personality, as opposed to the current bland choices (and occasional stupid questions).

The devs have shown they can create excellent dilemmas. For example, the Lilandril quest, in which you're presented with a tough choice at its end. I was so conflicted I needed to step away for a few days before making a decision. That was some fine writing and no matter what the player picks, no separate instances are created.

    1. <Remain Silent> (not just DB quests)
    2. Unfortunately, this one is High King of Skyrim

    Yes.

And while I'm not against it, I don't think Good/Evil should be the only axis along which more choices should be built.

TES storytelling is rich in factions. Give me some of that consequential choice action!
