Sure some people will move from ESO to Elder Scrolls 6 but most will come back. Competion is good for gaming industry because companies need to work harder to keep their players.
Actually it's not a different company as it is another dept in same company. ZoS & BSG (Bethesda Game Studios), who is developing TES VI, are sister companies under the Zenimax Media Corp. banner, who also runs id Software, Arkane Studios, Machine Games and Tango Gameworks.
ZoS also works and communicates constantly with BSG about ESO concerning lore, places, etc.
But as others said, at current production schedule, TES VI won't see daylight till 2025/2026 at earliest.
Plus BSG is all hands on deck for Starfield release.
Starfield (Bethesda) is probably/hopefully going to be the next big thing. Curent release estimate is May/June next year I believe.
Todd howard said that they aren’t just making ‘Skyrim in space’ with Starfield, but instead shooting for something so much more...!

You might also take a look into DaggerfallUnity, a kind of port of the original, American-English Daggerfall and its source-code into the Unity engine.
Arena and Daggerfall were officially (i.e., on Bethesda's own website) released for free for their respective 10th anniversaries. Though you had to download DOSBox separately and mount them manually, plus the version of Arena that was released was the inferior (if original) floppy-disk version (hence some of my original comments about Bethesda hating superior releases; when micro$oft acquired Bethesda, for whatever reason, they released the floppy-disk version on the [snip] as well). Are these legitimately free versions of Arena and Daggerfall? I don't pirate stuff.AgmarTheUnrestful wrote: »Or, even better, download the COMPLETELY FREE* versions from WiWiki. ...

GOG has the Daggerfall Unity version too.

Well, seeing that all 9 TES games by BSG are single player RPG's, I highly doubt it.
As far as how long they have waited, Todd H. said in a interview, they were waiting on technology to catch up to what they wanted to do. New engine, physics, etc.

Nice to see Bethesda officially supporting DaggerfallUnity; that's at least ONE thing they're doing right, supporting modders.

When I first started playing ESO, it was because I needed something new to feed my Elder Scrolls fix and was not ready to leave Tamriel yet. I am still not ready to leave Tamriel yet. Initially, when I started playing ESO, it was with the intention of dropping it like a bad habit the moment Elder Scrolls 6 comes out, but now, I can actually see myself playing both. I don't know how I will find the time for both, but thankfully that is likely a few years out.
