Can we have some sort of back-up method of authentication?

As I sit here waiting for an email while I'm just trying to get my daily login rewards, I have been hit with these at random times quite often. No my computer hasn't changed since yesterday, and no, my IP is still the same as well... These just seem to happen randomly.

But since It's been over 5 minutes (unusual for this) I can't help but wonder if I'll miss out on today's login rewards since I'll have to wait 24 hours to try for a new code?

Happens to me occasionally. You don't have to wait once you have the code. Just hit login again, and when it asks for the code, give it the one you just picked up off email. I usually get the emails within a minute or so. Just keep hitting your email program at least once a minute.

there are at least 3 other types of authentication i know:
    1) sms code
    2) set of pre-generated one-time codes
    3) google authenticator (probably the best one atm)

ESO don't support any of this, afaik. So yeah, it's a good idea to have a 2FA backup. It might be worth writing ZOS a feedback message.

I'm familiar with the *usual* process, but this is abnormal tonight

The same thing happened to me after the latest patch. On all accounts it took several attempts spread out over half an hour until an email was sent eventually. :(

Neither my computer nor my ISP had changed.

Still couldn't get in this morning. Will try again after this store/account system maintenance, maybe that will fix it?

I had the same problem the other week, but it was with a different game - so it's not just ZOS who can't get this sort of system working 100% of the time  !

Maybe this is why they need to do maintenance?

ZOS use a number of different bits of data to decide whether your PC has changed or not. Something as simple as updating your BIOS will cause the game to decide that you're on a different PC.

Yes, I'm familiar with all of that. I may tinker with my pc a lot, but not THAT much. And when I do, I fully expect to be prompted for a code. It's when I don't do anything that I'm baffled. Also baffled when said code never arrives.

Also, update, this evening, no code requested, so perhaps it had to do with the account system maintenance they were doing.

Only ever happened to me when resetting the router.
If you're 100% sure your router hasn't dropped then picked up again with a new IP regardless of you thinking it's changed, I'd ensure you take screenshots of the IP being the same and see if anything else causes a pattern to help ZOS fix the issue only you are experiencing to this degree (there may be others, we shall see).

Yeah, router hasn't reset in over a month since I updated the firmware, cable modem even longer. But since after they did their account system maintenance it didn't even ask me for the code it previously requested, I'm betting this was all on their side.

Same thing. I am a retired network engineer in the business for 51 yrs. 3 certs in programming as well. Played this game for 9 years now. All 3 of my computers Monday were working perfect. I get up and the update hits. It destroys the game on all 3 computers. Still can't log into 2 of them because ZOS is NOT sending a email Access Code. Talked to tech support at Spectrum, finally got a real tech online. He ran test and says I am correct, there is no email from ZOS with the Access Code.
I finally got my main online with the game. I had to turn off 31 addons because the update broke ALL of them severely. They even broke and 40 LIB functions as well. This is beyond annoying. So tired of game getting whacked to hell and back everytime they do a update. It is beyond obvious they don't even attempt to do any testing or quality control. Or it would not break your system every time they put one out. I've been thru many hundreds of them. Imagine my frustration. I only have one question for them. WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO FIX THEIR MISTAKE?

I can log in and play the game fine. What I can’t do is log into my account on the web and update my ESO plus or buy the new content. My email with the access code never arrives.
I’ve been through some rough patches in my life but it’s really bad when I can’t even get people to take my money!

Aaand now we're back. Can't get into either of my two accounts now without a login code which is not being sent.

EDIT: got one email, still not getting the other, same account that had the problem the other day

    @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_Kevin

I was just trying to login to the website, and I got hit with the authentication screen, and it never ended up sending the code.

I also have a friend who said he hasn't been able to login to the game for a few days now because there's no authentication code being sent out.

Can someone check this? At this point, it's actively preventing people from interacting with the game.

this is my current experience. I was able to submit a ticket today, though I can't access the 'my account' portion of the site because it requires a code, which is not being sent

Customer service changed the email associated with my account from a microsoft-based account that was not receiving the email to a yahoo that could. No idea what changed since the 11th, but that was the last code email I was able to receive. Just tested and it worked now.

I wish we could get the option of text or even better - an authentication app. The way it is right now is unreliable and frankly insecure

Usually when a website thinks I'm logging in from a new device but I'm not, it's because the cookie it's looking for has gotten deleted for whatever reason. I don't know if logging into ESO works similarly, but the question you might want to ask is how ESO knows when you're logging in from your usual known device, which might point you toward why it thinks you're logging in from an unknown device.
