Only thing I'd consider cute is harpies, I wish we had a harpy non-combat pet, but once they aggro on me they're as good as dead like anything else. I did enjoy that one scene and overall quest with harpies that the game offers though, (if you know you know).. Really wished that quest would've given a harpy pet at least or have one in the crown store.

What? I haven't seen a single enemy that I'd classify as "cute" everything is gritty dark fantasy and the Chimera design is exactly what I'd expect from a chimera design and it is completely badass in my opinion. What do you think a chimera should look like? Argonian Behemoths are anything but "cute" design too.

    Well.... gryphons are cute....

Ha. Yes I always feel extra bad about killing them actually. Especially baby ones.

Same, its how I feel about the wolf pups.

And the bear cubs. Truthfully? I do NOT want to have to kill common ordinary predators in this or any other game. I live in an area where predators are the norm (we have feral dogs and cats, coyotes, wolves, cougar, bobcat, bear, owls, various hawks, osprey, golden and bald eagles, along with the entire weasel family plus badgers and wolverines.... so yeah....)

When I had cats, they lived in the house because I couldn't stand the thought of something snatching them for food. And yes, we have a dog, a Brit, but the larger predators here don't generally come over our 6 foot fence - and she's not out all night anyway.

Mostly, the predator species here shy from people. When one doesn't.... you need to assume it's rabid.

I hate killing the mummy gryphons and wolves in front of their babies, and so will avoid aggroing them whenever possible.

But yeah, I love the TES and ESO world, and its aesthetic. It's beautiful and otherworldly, and even when it's dark (we know it can get pretty dark), it's not depressing. That's one of the reasons I'm happy to practically "live" in Tamriel.

ESO khajiit is extremely cute. I really love it. But monsters should not be cute.

The Chimera WB in Galen area looks like furry doll. It doesn't look like ominous monster
compared with Witcher3 or DarkSouls zombies. I don't like monster design of ESO from 2014.

Yeah, the zombies and skeletons in this game are not scary at all.

It's a different type of fantasy environment, so it's fitting that the enemies look more powerful/formidable than straightforwardly scary/disgusting. The exception would be the voidmother from VH--the animations and voice acting were incredibly creepy

Except that most of the monsters in TES have traditionally been in fact scary / gross looking. This series is not a cute sweet series like a lot of people seem to think, it is a dark fantasy game.

Well, scary is subjective but I think ESO's are scarier than older versions. They honestly felt more like generic zombies to me. Whereas ESO's looks like some kind of horrific abomination created by some foul daedra or insane cultist..

Yes, well, I'm here to play ESO, not Witcher or DarkSouls or whatnot. So I'm quite happy that the game has a variety of monster designs, some beautiful like griffons, some ugly like flesh atronachs, some "spooky" like whisp mothers or ghosts, and so on.
ESO isn't supposed to be "dark and edgy" (or, as I like to call it, "dork and eeehhvill"), so why should the designs be?
And there are lots of nuances between "dark and twisted" and "cute", which ESO does use, and use quite well, in my opinion.

Edit: And yes, I'm one of these people that go out of their way to avoid having to kill more or less any hostile animal, be it wolves, nix hounds or griffons. They are just going about their lives, after all. And far too often they even have their young about... The biggest difficulty in that regard is explaining to Basti over and over again that he doesn't need to protect me from them.
    ;)

I wouldn't say they are cute, more like ESO has a slight cartoon-y style which makes a lot of creatures feel less "scary looking". Like a lot of the more gruesome creatures of Elder Scrolls such as flesh atronachs, void mothers, Yaghra etc would be horrifing to see in real life or more realistic style and graphics.

I always thought Oblivion's flesh atronachs looked like kung fu versions of Xerxes from "300".

For those who dislike killing bears near cubs, there's an encounter in Galen in which you can rescue a bear stuck in a trap next to a despairing baby. Once you do that, angry hunters pop up and attack. The bear helps you dispatch them. This is the sort of thing that makes ESO so awesome, bugs and awful patches notwithstanding.

I've been Elder Scrolls fan from Skyrim.

Skyrim creature design is 100 times more realistic design including horse.
When I first met my imperial horse in 2014, I felt huge disappointing.

    The appearance is "plastic toys".
Sorry ZOS, I really hate creature appearance of ESO.

But, ESO player characters is 100 times better than Skyrim also.

    ”Cute"

OK, I chose wrong English word. It's more like unconvincing design art work.

There're "layer" of organic tissue structure beneath the skin or fur and lizard scale.
Meaning is bone, muscle and tendon, and covered by fat and vein and skin.

And some specific structure parts of animals (including rotten tissue of zombie) is
extremely important to build up believable fictional creatures.

Most of ESO creature are lack of those art sense, and made it unconvincing appearance.
It's not kind of "taste" or "style" difference compared with other fantasy game title.

For example, I hate limbs of those creatures which I picked up at the reference picture above.
Muscle tissue is not inflated rubber balloons. It's more like oil cylinder actuator which liked with
certain point of bone frame. DO NOT MAKE IT boring bulged shape.

Need re-education for the ESO creature modeler.

And your second paragraph there "For example, I hate..." So, yeah - personal taste & preferences.

Strangely, some of animal model like the lion and Western Skyrim reward white pet dog have
very decent appearance. It's very natural organic sculpting work. At least, it doesn't look like "cheap plastic toy".

Just, why? Why QA balance of those monster enemy is so much different from mob animal model?

The bone joint structure of "tiger mount" creature is also wrong.
(I can't remember name of it though)

It's more like "Toad" joint frame structure rather than "feline" style beast.
Some arrangement very need for fictional creature, but still needs some major structure for it.

Cute and cuddly and fluffy? I do beg to differ.

Flesh atronachs - disgusting and repulsive
    Spiderkith - yuck
    Zombies - ugh

Honestly, if I can admire some creatures and hate others, it's a masteful work. I will complain about the obvious, but the graphic design - NEVER!

And, whereas some dev teams may ahem, fail here and there, the graphics team - flawless, splendid, astounding, superb, excellent, (add any other praising adjectives)!

There's a woman that you come upon in the jungle in High Isle and she wants to befriend and ride one of those big lava lizards, the vulk'esh, and you try to tell her not to do it. She doesn't listen and she ends up getting incinerated by a really big one after a little one runs away from her.

I'll have to disagree with OP, there are lots of things to criticise about the monster work in ESO, but generally I think the art design of the monsters is good.

The chimeras are also fine imo, they are beautiful.
