Because as an ESO+ member, I already have that content - you're placing value on me wanting access to that content should I stop being an ESO+ member. I don't, in fact, I probably wouldn't play ESO at all without ESO+. I don't care to own the DLC, I don't need to own it, I just care that I can access it when I have ESO+.
Part of the value of ESO+ is having access to DLCs without purchasing them, if the new trend is that they are just going to be given away for free... while my ESO+ price remains the same (or goes up), then if anything, I'm losing value there.
That's where the frustration lies, and why this so-called gifting feels like someone paying me back with my own money. Having ZOS or other players tell me that I should be grateful for this, that just adds insult to injury.
For those that who find value in the free DLC, I'm happy for you, no reason not to be - just don't expect everyone to see value in it the same way you do.

You can't say your getting nothing. You get an exclusive pet. The value of said pet is subject to opinion, but it is something.

How about something that benefits the whole playerbase? Like a house, which High Isle has been missing this entire time (not counting the inn or Crown only one)? Nah, I get a reward that's something I've already paid for. Wow.
A house doesn't benefit the whole playerbase as many aren't into housing. There's nothing they can give that could please everyone. ESO+ gets an exclusive pet and a permanent unlock regardless of plus status of the dlc, neither of which anyone has paid for. If y'all don't like the rewards, that's fine. But ESO+ was, in fact, included in the rewards with stuff we haven't paid for and some of us are happy with those items.
I don’t know if there are many eso+ subscribers that turn on and off their sub that often.
One of the perks of eso+ is dlc access, when they give away the dlc it devalues the subscription. More importantly it feels devalued to the eso subscriber.
They tried to compensate that with the pet, but a pet reskin is kind of meh. Someone mentioned the CE version of the dlc, THAT would have been a more appropriate prize for eso+ subscribers.
I imagine a lot of them do, but probably not the ones who post on here. I say this because developers have already stated there's a lot of people who only play this game during the story DLCs, and quit playing afterwards. I don't see most of those people paying for a sub they aren't using.
Are those on and off players coming back and doing this event? Because if they are not, this prize is not hitting the target audience.
Unless everyone gets the prize even if they did not participate.
And if THAT is true it makes the eso+ subscription feel even more devalued.
Everyone gets it if they claim it in time and own High Isle, regardless of individual participation.

Then they need to change this to say that everyone gets access to story dlc game packs.
The only dlc content my sub is giving me is the dungeons at this point. And like most players it seems, I really don't want to do the new dungeons more than once, and certainly not in a pug situation.
So this whole first line is no longer an eso+ selling point, and is very misleading.

The story DLC is not a guaranteed reward every year, it's just something they do sometimes. The bonus content they have this year is pretty lacking, even in the paid department. Like, we didn't get the usual number of paid houses. There was absolutely zero new ones that were either free or could be bought with just coins (outside of the Inn room), for the first time since housing was released. I'm guessing that the server upgrades/re-architecture limited their ability to do other things, so the DLC is being given out for free since it was a slim year.
In addition, you DO still get all DLC unlocked including prior DLC with ESO+. They did not take Firesong away from ESO+. They upgraded your access to it for free, and gave it away to everyone else. If someone with ESO+ were to miss this event and be unable to get the free access to Firesong, they'd still have access to Firesong through ESO+ anyway. The people that miss this event and don't have ESO+ will have to pay full price.

You essentially went from rent to own for free. So, even if you cancel ESO+ you still get access to it. Meanwhile if you unsub, you lose access to any unowned DLC.

Yeah, it really feels like a party where everyone but the eso+ subscribers gets a gift.

And two years in a row, too. It makes me wonder which of the perks that we pay for with our subscriptions will be next.
