    It's a reward for exploring

You actually believe anyone outside of the most casual is just happening upon these and not actually looking up a map of their locations on google?

My first character, absolutely. I managed to get almost all of the base game shards on my own. Unfortunately only most, because Zos changed it so they appeared on the map (should have been an optional toggle, imho) before I got them all.

Not everyone plays with a speedrun mentality, some players like to take their time and just play the game.

I'll be honest, when I recently did my run to get all of the Cyrodiil shards, I absolutely used a map 😅

Yep. My first toon all of my skyshards we're exploration based and I'm heavily pve focused.

First, the skyshards are not just crystals from heaven. They are part of the story of the Soulless One (the player). The Prophet says, "A shard of Aetherial magicka that carries the essence of Nirn. Some link them to Lorkhan, the missing god of creation.
If you collect and absorb its power, it should restore your corporeal form. I will summon one of these shards for you to absorb." So the skyshards are part of the lore.

Second, to have them switch to "purchasing" the skills, etc. by leveling the game would be come more like any other game.

In any game, it seems that there are some players who want the entire game replaced by a button labelled “WIN” and when you click on it, the game tells you you won, and you don't have to play any more.

Sometimes I wish there was one, so that kind of player would go away contented, and not bother the rest of us.

Quests, lore dumps, character interactions, map completion, costumes, pets, mounts those are valid reasons to explore and interact with the world. Being unable to participate and compete in pve and pvp until you do is not.

Good thing Skyshards don't prevent you from being able to participate in PVE and PvP then!

There were 298 skill points available without ever touching a skyshard last year. More has been added since.

I have 36 more skill points unused that i collected on my main. shame i cant donate them to my alts.

I have found every sky shard save 1 on my main character, I can't get the one found in the new starter tutorial, and yes, I would like to be able to get that one too.

I like that I can use crowns to buy the ones in places I don't want to go once I have gone there at least once (Cyro and IC) while collecting the rest of them as I find myself in those zones on other characters (I find it fun to go find them and the way shrines as I explore and quest)

I think I have 80+ spare skill points but who cares, I am having fun.
Of all the things I have lost, I miss my mind the most...

No I see no reason to change something that is perfectly fine.
As you are proposing a change, I think a yes vote should require a reason why.

No, I've always enjoyed searching for them using the hints given. High isle kind of ruined that with the overly simplistic hints and if they continue in the same vein with future zones I'd probably not care about searching for skyshards so much. The map now showing their location when you get near is also a big disappointment (though there is an addon fix thankfully).

Once I have all the cyrodil shards, I'll buy them for the rest of my characters because I never want to see that place again, all the rest I'll get the old fashioned way, by playing the game.

Hmm, yes, getting right of an incentive for exploring ontop of removing one of the most flexable means to aquire extra skill points in gaming, hmm, yes, that is a great idea

The real question is @Vanthras79 is why do you want to get rid of them? what's next? removing the lore books for MG leveling? cooking requirements for provisioning? the rift hunt for the psyjic? well that last one dosn't sound so bad tbh, but still

This is why I only have 3 characters. Searching for these things three times was tolerable, but I can't imagine what people with 10+ characters do. But no, they shouldn't be removed.

We still gather the skyshards. (I have a full roster of 18 characters.)

        No. Why?

Exploration, especially when new content is released. Don't particularly like the map marker for this reason either, but at least it only shows when you're close.

No. I like skyshard hunting, thus exploring a large piece of the map and unlocking wayshrines.

Also, I combine it with Mage Guild's books hunting and Psijik Order quest line, so just taking away the skyshard would do next to nothing for me.

Elder Scrolls: Oblivion which was hailed as a brilliant game at the time, was eventually critised for being easy to steamroll to end game, as all you had to do was to repeat the skills to level up the skill lines.

Kinda defeats the whole purpose of an rpg and ZoS rejected that approach to avoid making the same mistake.

I have 76 characters across three accounts, both PC megaservers. Love taking them out to look for skyshards they haven't found yet. I know where almost all of them are once in a given zone, but it's still fun, and they're still valuable to all my characters.

[And yes - I play for many hours every day - because I'm retired for years now, and this is my main hobby. Better than being outside for sure, except in the winter.]

        No

There is a limit to the number of skill points you receive from leveling. Once you hit 50, no more leveling skill points.

If you decided to expand the level to give more skill points you would need 400 levels or more to equate to the possible number of skyshards - each level requiring more XP to earn than the previous one.

People whined, cried and quit when their characters did not do as much damage as before the last patch. Now you want to take away their skill points so that it takes Years to have all their combat abilities plus be able to master crafting, or antiquities, or psijic skills, or any other additional skill line, like vampire or werewolf.

        Really bad idea.

Skyshards were fun to find when I was new, when new zones release, and hunting them to unlock skill points was a positive experience as a new player. Many social guilds still do regular skyshard hunts. I’m not sure why anyone would want to take that away from new folks getting into the game.

Academic debate. I of course have never seen their books, but I promise that skyshard sales bring in a lot of revenue.

For me, I thought they were a nice touch in terms of progression on my first character, by my third or fourth, they were a hassle. By my 12th, they were an expense.

That's a very nice quote actually, describes my experience with a lot of things in this game.

There's no specific addon but you can add in a line to most addons. It's easier than it sounds as I have zero coding knowledge and I haven't seen a skyshard on my map for months! Have a look at this page :

Not only do I want Sky Shards to remain, I think more rewards should be given for map completion. Not much more but I am a big fan of the exploration aspect of MMOs which I think the Sky Shards helps promote.

I'd keep them but maybe try reducing the shards required for a skill point. Knock it down to 2 initially and see how things go. I'm not against having to work a bit for the skill points but it would be a quality of life feature not having to keep changing points around depending on what I'm doing. I guess that's a big reason why they wouldn't remove them. They wont sell armoury slots as easily.

Skyshards have long been used in ESO for purchasing skills, passives, and morphs. But what if you could just purchase the skills/passives/morphs by just leveling up the skill-line and not by chasing over Tamriel for meteoric shards of glass that rained from the heavens?

Skyshards should stay. I would like them account wide though.

They should stay, and remain as they are, which is an optional account wide feature.

Don't blame me because ZOS makes you to pay for that privilege with each character you roll.
