I’m a casual. Hello. Devs. IM A CASUAL. I’m not a top tier raider. Or PVMER. Played this game since day 1 though. I always get crown crates and homes. And purchase tons of crown store items. While I also enjoy the game casually. Anytime I want
I watch content creators for advice on builds. And I have actually done a few high end raids. But very casually.
I did them just fine btw.
This patch. Is a literal nightmare. A literal nightmare to this game. I will no longer spend another single dime until this situation is fixed .
I have to put this $ amount on my post for posterity because people …. IT IS RELEVANT.

Newsflash, you are not a casual. Casual players rarely leave overland. They do not PvP, they do not run Dungeons, and they certainly do not run Trials. You may consider yourself casual but you are not, you are a mid to high tier player.
That is really open to debate. I ran into a guy in a dungeon yesterday who is a casual player. Plays a few hrs a week doesn't run a ton of dungeons and every few weeks runs a normal trial and he said he did a little pvp during the last event but it's pretty rare. Has decent DPS, probably not breaking 60k based on the but mostly does overland. That's causal. Mid tier is me. I break 70k play trials regularly but am not attempting trifectas or anything. Probably do about 8hrs a week. Hardcore is 80k+, progging and doing hard content with 10-15+ hrs a week.
60k is not casual. Mid-tier is more than a few k before you can prog. Casual players don't do dlc dungeons or only do them with great complaint, most skip trials, and they generally aren't pulling more than 25k DPS. The majority of the playerbase are doing around 5k-15k damage. We know that because the specific reason cited as to why companions couldn't do more than that was that they would have out damaged a lot of the playerbase. And devs didn't want them replacing players in dungeons due to that. Most players prefer the story of this game but mid-tier players are also participating in trials and dungeons. Generally speaking the players doing trials and dungeons are also going to also hit 25k+ if they are a DPS. Because they'll actually bother to do stuff like get sets to make the trials and dungeons easier.
No it isn't. Plenty of folks been playing casually for years have 50k-60k dps. You are talking about stereotypes, people that exclusively quest and brand new players. That's one subset of a massive placer base. When I started in month 1 I had about 25k. Second month I ran about 45k and I hadn't done a single trial at this point or any dlc dungeons. I had a social guild that had one target dummy and I wanted to see where I was at because I wanted to try a normal solo arena.
Practicing on a dummy so that you can hit larger numbers for arenas is by it's not casual activity. You're defining it by time spent, but I'm defining it by the types of activities and practice someone is willing to put in.
Lol trying one parse on a dummy one time because I got a suggestion from a guildmate and had literally no idea that that was even a thing is absolutely casual. I put about 5 mins of time in bruh, in 3 months. I was by no means practicing. That is the definition of casual. Hell I'd never even played an MMO before this. I didn't know what a 5 piece set was. I was absolutely, unequivocally a casual player. Your effectively saying anyone who knows what their dps is is not casual which is just wrong. Plenty of people that only pull 25k have hit a dummy once to know that.

I was pressed to buy a used i7 7700 sff business pc for 200$ off ebay and upgade it with 32 gb ram, a pcie4 nvme drive (so i could take it along to the next machine one day) and even get the rx 6400 low profile card coming from amazon tomorrow (also pcie4 for the upgade path to an eventual newer used machine).
But to be fair, i also spend 500-700 a month on feeding and caring for 14 cats. Some inside and some outside. So it's a choice to prioritize. If i get in a jam financially, watch how fast i sell my pc for parts.
While i will never (NEVER!) give Zos that kind of money i wish you well on your boycott.

That's not what I'm effectively saying. You earlier mentioned that you started using the dummy because you wanted to do arenas. And I pointed out that neither of those are all that casual of an activity. You only just now mentioned you spent 5, so something you stated later that I couldn't have possibly known cannot fairly be used to interpret what I'm saying.
I understand there is a spectrum of casual, but generally speaking someone who never looks at sets, never practices, etc. is not going to be hitting those types of numbers. It's great that you did, great talent demonstrated there. But, an outlier doesn't really define the group. If devs explain companions can't have more than the DPS they now because they'd replace the actual players of the game, then it's reasonable to assume that mostly the players are hitting fairly low.
It's not really about the time spent, it's about the activity and practice willing to be put in. The difficult content in this game is actually not used as much as the devs would like. A lot of the changes of U35 is about trying to make it easier to get into harder content. It was an utter failure at that, but that's the point of U35. If devs need to make drastic changes to the game to get people able to do harder content comfortably, it's not really unreasonable to make the assumption that most are having trouble doing that content (if they do it all.)

TBH your post has no relevant feedback besides your dislike for the patch.
The relevance is obvious and substantial. If the whales quit spending their money on the game due to poor management decisions it's relevant.

He spent over $5K over 7 years. That isn't a whale. A whale for MMOs spend that a year on average.
I've probably spent about $1500-2000K on this game in the same time frame and I don't consider myself a whale. Spending around $300-1,000 a year on MMO is probably closer to the norm. Spending $2K a year or more is IMO a whale.

That's all.

[SNIP]
ESO started in 2014. We are now 2022.
365 (days) x 8 (years) = 2090 days
$5000 / 2090
That is 2.39 US$ per day.
It’s nothing!
Okay, you stress that you are just a casual gamer, but if anybody has ESO as a daily hobby, then having spent $5000 the last 8 years on your favorite hobby is actually not that much money for all the daily entertainment you get out of it.
That being said, if you have played ESO every day, the last 2090 days, you will have run out of content in the game a long time ago.
It’s not U35, but lack of content which makes ESO overpriced.
I could have spent 10 000 US$ on ESO the last eight years if the game each year had been as innovative and creative as it was in 2014.
Now we are paying for skins… It gives new meaning to the saying that one has skin in the game.
But it is what it is. Not gonna change. Enjoy it while it lasts.
