Rent A Nag - Horses for Hire

Elki_Wilderglas
Talking with guild members (Fair Dinkum) the other night it seems a few of us who have saved and bought horses have found we don't end up using them very often other than for additional storage space as we tend to harvest/mine/battle too often for it to be worth the hassle of mounting and dismounting each time.

Then there are our other guildmates who hate walking and simply cannot afford a horse in the forseeable future and need to be able to get around quickly to complete tasks (say to speed up mage guild levelling by collecting lorebooks).

Wouldn't it be great if we could rent our horses out in-guild at either the stable or bank? The money could be sent via mail same as from the sale of a guild-store item and guild members would be able to put their horses up when available for rent. They could be rented for 2-3 hour short-term slots or 24 hour long term slots with the stable/bank as well as the guild getting a cut, the owner getting a return on their horse and fellow guildmates having a more affordable and quicker option.

I've posted this here on behalf of our guild, with the hope this idea will gain some notice and attention from ZOS and fellow ESO gamers.

That's a pretty funny idea. I'm definitely in the boat of "only really use it for inventory space" because I'm pretty addicted to the 'stop and pick up everything I see' mini-game.

Mini-game? I thought that was the definition of RPG?!

Anyways lol, I agree that would be interesting to do, the only way ZOS will really take notice, or the ones who could/would do something about it would be via /feedback in game. Personally I have just gone to giving guildies gold for a horse, just getting them the 17k horse of course, they can work for the other one, gold is a lot easier to come by in Vet content....stupidly easy really, bought 2 42k horses for myself now, a daedric motif for 63k, a daedric motif for a friend for 40k, 2 primal motifs for 20k each, and still have over 40k gold right now at vr6....

it does help that not only do i have the inventory space to hold over 125 items atm, but also my leveling partner and i use the mail to increase our carry capacity by mailing to each other with the subject "RETURN" so we can stockpile goods to deconstruct and sell.

Id say we can make a good 20k in less than 5 hours in vet content? i havent timed it or anything but thats usually how long i play while at work, and we get about that much.

@Trouvo‌ , you are the 1%. I go ok I guess but I am by no means sporting a diamond grill and blowing my nose with daedric motifs. Then again I am but a humble L36.

We discussed in-guild of getting ZOS's attention over Twitter by starting a #rentanag campaign... but reading the ugly ugly retweets (even soon-to-be F2P accusations were made) from tonight's maintenance tweet, tonight is probably not the best night to start. Plus our guild is mainly Oceanic...and so are the angry tweeters.

@Shimond‌ I understand completely. Sometimes when I'm spent after a gruelling dungeon run I just prance around picking flowers for a while lol.

I fall into the category of never using my horse save for the increased carrying capacity I've been leveling on it. I have a speed horse sitting in the stable that I'm leveling up, will eventually have a stam one too. Not quite rolling in the dough yet like @Trouvo‌ but getting there. Money generation really does increase at higher levels. I'm not into Veteran content yet, but I've still managed to make over 20k the past couple of days going through level 46-48 stuff.

Thats understandable, being only l36....hell i have an alt thats a higher level, but i have the added luxury of being able to play at work, and I understand the Oceanic complaint....I work nights in the US and my leveling partner lives in Taz(been duoing for over 3 years now?).

I was more trying to mention the gold you can get later on because the coding for setting something like that up would be extensive, the players would def appreciate it and it would be a great ease of access thing but I do not see it happening anytime soon due to the amount of coding and testing it would require, and the "suits" at ZOS probably wont like the idea because then why would anyone buy the $15 horse? what was the point of the IE horse? Im sure the developers would like the idea sure, but it wouldnt be the first thing the "Suits" changed for the sake of money or turned it down, it is a business after all, and I would expect the business and financial "Suits" to respond in such a way.

My best suggestion is to just do what you can to help each other out, get to vet stuff and do vet stuff together, you will have a really hard time soloing vet stuff anyways lol. And even with the horses I do have....i barely ever use them except to extend the size of my inventory...even in pvp i do more sneaking than horse riding.... find a way to encourage the non horse users to not need one?

I understand why one can't sell an Imperial horse (or any other horse purchased w/ real money), but I'd like to be able to buy/sell other horses. I don't know how much of a market there would be, but I can buy/improve/sell most armor and weapons and it would be nice to be able to do the same thing with horses.

Seems like you could make a mini game out of that, i agree. Throw in some type of horse breeding and horse racing in with that too!
If I am going to quote someone, it's going to be me.
  • Elki_Wilderglas
@Chryos‌ The breeding sounds complicated lol. The racing might just be another clever idea though assuming it's a cross-country type course which relies on the rider's skill instead of just the horse's speed and stamina. Horses of similar speed and stamina could compete against each other to keep things fair and prizes could include special loot.

@Trouvo‌ lies...that was shameless cash-flashing and I'm jealous though more motivated after reading your comments. I too want to be rolling in horses and gold and golden horses.

As for them canning this idea if it ever sees the light of a ZOS office, the income streams from this game are not finite. Who knows, maybe if someone likes the guild stable idea (and the racing idea) and on the very very far stretched whim something eventuates from it, they may choose to supplement the revenue lost from previous cash-sale horses by introducing a similar cash-rent feature for players who are not in guild. And while I'm enjoying my stay here at the Hotel Hypothetical, lets say they thought the pitfall from the cash horse sales too low so they brain storm and come up with Limited Edition Armour,Weapons &Horse Armour(which gives perks to both horse and rider) sets and run a sales drive for a month every third month.

Imagine fully armoured horses you can ride into battle and maybe even further advancement for horses so that they can either become race horses who are adept with speed and can jump higher than other horses, battle horses who can charge and take hits, or bosmer horses who know "the way of the green" and can autopilot you from node to node for a max depending on how far you've advanced it.

I'm for real on the horse breeding, beit colors/looks or stats, could make it a another crafting profession. Im sure it would be complex like you stated, but for immersion purposes this would be pretty cool. They also need to do something about the horses all graphically syncing up (all horse move their heads at the same time) Stuff maybe they could work on in the future i suppose.

I can only imagine the amount of ideas they are getting at this early stage "in the game", but if they add stuff like this, Im betting this will set them apart from their competition.

Bought the 15.00 horse because of how it looked and I'd surely pass over more for different looking horses. I'd love a Clydesdale and I can name a few others.

If I could cash in on my Imperial horse like that, it would really be pay-to-win.
  • Elki_Wilderglas
Why stop at different breeds? Why not have options for enchanted elk and wamasu with magicka boost for vets? I'm really glad people have taken to this thread!

But then you would lose the bag space when it's being loaned out probably.

I wouldn't mind renting bag space though!

Been saving up for my inventory pony for a while now and I'm not even half way :(
