Are you comfortable using an MMO mouse? 12 buttons

xgoldelf
xgoldelf
I currently play on gamepad mode using a controller on pc and I’m thinking of switching to keyboard and mouse. Do you find the Razer naga pro/trinity easy to use with 12 buttons and not confusing? I tried it once and kept on pressing two buttons at once but maybe because I was pressing too fast. What’s your opinions on a mouse with 12 extra buttons on the side? There is a Corsair mouse version with 12 buttons as well but not sure how it is.

I've never been happy with all those buttons. I'm still using a Logi 2 button + scroll wheel. I'm not very coordinated.

I have the Razer Trinity and have used a Naga since 2011. I’ve owned 3 of them in that time. Using a claw grip greatly helps in reducing mis-presses. It also allows you to use buttons 4 and 5 behind the scroll wheel. I use them for dodge and break-free alternate binds for when my left hand is tied up

Corsair Scimitar Pro RGB. Is a bit old but has 12 buttons on the side and 2 more just below the mouse wheel. They can be programmed and you can define multiple profiles. You can even set one the buttons to switch to a specific profile you have created.

For example, for RAGE 2 I use one profile for common FPS actions and pressed a button to switch to the RAGE 2 profile to execute specific actions and then press the button again to return to the common FPS actions one.

You could do the same for ESO, if you feel you need it like that. Myself, I just use only 9 buttons to execute the abilities, ultimate and some in-game actions like call mount or execute a DB kill.

I use the razor 12 button MMO mouse in other MMOs where I use all buttons and really like it. At launch I bounced between the MMO mouse and the razer Moba mouse with 6 buttons and both worked well for me. Currently I’m using game pad.

i prefer mice that have the full numpad on the side

for this game i have numpad 1 bound to weapon swap, numpad 2 bound to bash/cc break, and numpad 3 bound to synergy

then i have my left hand pretty much entirely for movement/skills
    plays PC/NA

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

You just learn them by playing. Right now I'm typing without looking at the keyboard and there are way more buttons than 12.

That being said I use a Naga mouse with 6 side buttons (MOBA edition that is discontinued) I learned to use it really quickly and I don't feel I need more buttons than that.

I have 2 side buttons on my mouse. I use one to toggle run and the other as my push to talk key for discord. I cannot get into using them for anything else. It's just too awkward. I can't even imagine what a mess 12 buttons would be.

Yep, this is me. I couldn't even manage a mouse with two shoulder buttons I had a few years ago. Kept miss-clicking them constantly. I grip the mouse on the sides, with thumb & pinkie/ring finger. Doesn't go well with side-mounted buttons.

(heck, I have a hard enough time with games that use the scrollwheel's button. I just can't manage all that stuff at once.)

Me too. I got a new computer that came with a fancy lit up mouse and a lot of buttons. I gave it to Goodwill. I bought 6 of the Logitech mice two years ago, have only used one other other. They are terrific.

I tried a mouse with 7 side buttons for the thumb and got lost in them. I'm much happier with my current mouse which only has 2 side buttons for my thumb. I do like having buttons for my thumb but I think 2 is about my limit.

That's funny, I just ordered 6 more as the last one is starting to lose it's oomph in the buttons. That's what I usually find happens with them - eventually the buttons give out.

I have a Corsair Scimitar RGB Elite P.O.S. mouse. It is a mouse I currently only recommend to people I don't like, due to construction and quality issues with both of the ones that I have had here.

12 buttons is more than what I want. I only use 5 or 6 of them. I came from a Logitech G500, which is superior in every way to the Scimitar, except that want more than three buttons under my thumb. I tried the Logitech G600 MMO mouse, which is also inferior to the G500, as well as the Scimitar.

If EVGA had decent software that had better support for game profiles, I might like the X15 above all of these, except the G500, which is probably the best mouse I have ever owned.

I have the Razer Naga Trinity with the 12 button panel. I do not have issues with it. But that being said, I tried to use them for skills but had too much trouble. Instead I use them to swap weapons, interact with objects, mount / dismount horse, sheathe weapons and select the quick slot item I want to use.

My mouse has two buttons on each side but I don't use them. More important to me is a mouse I can easily use with either hand. Playing ESO I use my left hand on the mouse. The mouse is set up so that I can attack, block, interrupt and bar swap with the two main buttons on top and scroll button. Everything else is set up on the keypad of my keyboard so I don't have to move my hand any when playing. Only need to move my fingers. My skills are the up down left right keys and the page down key for the 5th and I use my thumb for those.

Can you tell me the brand or name of that mouse with numpad on the sides?

I really cant get use to the 12 button on side mouse, maybe I will do better with 5, heres hoping.

I use a controller when playing eso, and yes I am a console pleb, but playing on pc is so much better, and the mods, dang console be damned.

I typically have one side button for weapon swap, another for sprint and the scroll wheel for mount.

i've been using a 12 thumb button mouse for a long time, it works best for me in mmos. if you decide to try one, the best advice i heard when i was first looking at them, is to just bind a couple of your most-used abilities to side buttons and get used to that. then slowly increase the amount of binds and adjust the arrangement if necessary. on my mouse the middle vertical row of keys is a bit raised compared to the rows on either side so there's a tactile reminder of where my thumb is. however, they are obviously not for everyone. if possible i'd recommend borrowing one to try before purchasing.

I've used the logitech g600 mouse since playing eso. All the thumb buttons are very handy. Unfortunately, these mice are prone to the thumb button membrane switches failing & I am on my 4th one and they are becoming harder to find in stock. Might try the Razer Naga next.

I use the Trinity with 7 dial plate on the mouse.

For ESO, I only have the bottom of the dial for in-combat as dodge.
The rest of the radial are:
RP Walk/Run toggle, Screenshot Toggle, Combat Metrics toggle, Mouse Cursor toggle, Skills page and finally previous page.

So essentially I use all of the buttons, only most are for non-combat reasons meaning I don't need to worry about being able to hit them easily, just the one I use to dodge roll.

So much easier in ESO than having about 42 keybinds like in SWTOR lol

It's quite a difference in price, is the quality that much better?

I had a long time MMO mouses with lot of buttons, from 5 to 12, but in the end, some years ago, I changed to a different configuration: I now have a razer tartarus (earlier orbweaver, even earlier nostromo) left side of my keyboard, with a MMO mouse having only 2 buttons, and for me, that's the most comfortable ever.

Side note about programmable mini keypads: I was a fan of having the G1-6 in a column left side of gaming keyboard (especially useful for the mounts in GW2 for example). Unfortunately, the new generation of gaming keyboards don't have them anymore, or if they have them, they're in a row at the top of the keyboard, what doesn't suit me at all. Such a keypad like the tartarus is - atop of what I do with it already - a bless to compensate for those G keys.
I'm out of my mind, feel free to leave a message... PC/NA

Using an MMORPG mouse has been great. I find it gives me a faster reaction and greater control. Faster reaction makes a big difference in DPS.

Years ago when I started using such a mouse, I started using only one row of three buttons. When I got used to that, I started using the next row and so on.
