So what are the new strongest DoTs?

Now that it seems things are solidified for U35, I'm prepping some builds. However, I'm stuck figuring out which DoTs are now worthwhile and which aren't worth my time. So for those of you that have been testing in PTS:
1. Which single target DoTs are strongest?
2. Which AoE DoTs are strongest?

✭✭✭✭✭wall of elements with maelstrom destro will be pretty potent (since its still going to be under the 1 sec tick rate, and maelstrom destro buffs the dmg of each tick)
volley should still be alright with the maelstrom bow
single target? most of those are sticky ones which are gonna be awful with this update (40-60% less dps from those), almost not even worth running honestly (i mean dmg is dmg, but when you get the equivalent of 300 dps from a sticky class dot, when a semi-sticky proc from gear is doing 2500 dps, yeah you see the problem lol)plays PC/NA

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

Cmon! barbed trap deals now more damage ( with new status effect ) than any of nb's DoT ground and single target, lol!
2 second tick in pvp ~ nothing

That's honestly what I'm wondering at this point... which DoTs are worthwhile to even keep on my bar juxtaposed with spammables. I agree that Unstable Wall looks decent still and so does Mystic Orb from what I can see on the AoE side.0 -

my NB was using a 2h maelstrom for pvp lol, granted i would almost never get a killing blow with the maelstrom dot, but sometimes i did lol
i know its not meta but the build was working for me, at this point i almost have to consider just going back to duel wield, i hated the change they did to the asylum duel wield, but that would be a much better option than the maelstrom 2h after U35 changesplays PC/NA

MA 2H had a 12k tooltip over 5s before scaling at one point if I'm not mistaken.. only about a year ago. Esentially 20% of a spammable/s.
I don't know what the hell they're thinking. The only reason I used this on live is for an off meta crit surge build to use it more reliably as MA 2H is an aoe dot that ticks once a second, one of the last ones in the game at this point. I suppose that hasn't changed for my use case, but any pressure it had on live is completely gutted now. Looks like it's going in the trash bin.
When compared to other dot procs. MA 2H does about 5k tooltip vs their 10k, but sets like Plaguebreak and Unleashed Terror proc their status effect each tick, making them about 80% stronger than what the tooltip really shows, plus the utility of constant minor defile or mangle. Not to mention Plaguebreak explodes on kill..

Sticky dots aren't worth it unless they have a secondary effect that makes them worth it. This is why the 2 second tic rate + damage decrease with a massive time increase isn't a good idea. They might be slottable against certain bosses, but otherwise ground-based dots are the way to go all the way.
I even mentioned this in a thread discussing a change to dots when week 1 PTS came up, something like this; they can increase the duration of dots and decrease all the damage, they can increase the duration of dots and leave the damage numbers the same (scaling higher since it lasts longer), or they can leave them alone. If they take some dots and increase the uptime, but reduce the damage, but leave other dots alone, the dots that were left alone will be the only ones used because they clearly do more damage.
It's "Damage Per Second" and "Damage Per Minute" that matters, not damage per cast.Edited by merpins on August 13, 2022 6:26AM5 -

Actually, a comparison list of live to the most recent patch would also be really helpful. I'm on the console, and I've read the all the patch notes I find it hard to determine if the +/- x% is off of live, the initial U35 patch or a delta from the last iteration of patch...
Does anyone know?
If I were to guess I would think it was from the last iteration, but that means re-reading all of the patch notes each time to figure out the difference between the last patch and live?
