So I consider myself an average player at best on a good day. My main is a Magplar healer (just starting into vet content, yeah that will be over) and my second is a MagDK DPS. Yeah, my ESO life is going to suck after the nuclear nerf. So while I still have time (DPS) I'm looking for suggestions as to what I can do to mitigate U35. I do not weave, I do not rotate, neither do I trial. I leap, prance and sashay with my (allegedly OP) Oakensoul DK thru content (so much fun! for now, sadly to end too soon).

So suggestions? I'm on the console so I have a little less than a month. I'm thinking of doing Dragonstar and Malstrom to get some staves to help? I'm working like mad to level my companion (although that help is somewhat limited).

I will be updating my healer build for the Magplar depending on what ends up being the worst problem (for me) after the patch. It's hard for me to tell now just from reading the patch notes. And I am so depressingly thoroughly average I am not sure that I can tell from what others have said how bad it will be for me...

I'm open to the idea of a new character of a different class, but I really like being a healer...

If you don't weave, don't play a rotation and if you aren't running trials, you are probably not going to feel a big difference. All these changes won't really affect you. Oakensoul ring will still be a decent alternative for those players who don't like bar swapping.
My best advice here is: Instead of looking fro another class or role, you might want spend a little time and actually practice weaving, maybe pick up a simple rotation and just enjoy the progress. You will feel a huge improvement to your game that hugely outweighs all the nerfs.
And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

I think healing will be fine. MagDK the only thing I personally know of is the change in whip to be hybrid, which I was able to deal with by wearing medium armor (which reduces the stamina cost) or using potions that restore stamina. Heavy attack DK is also an option, with or without oakensoul.

Thanks, I have a lot of transmute crystals sitting around and an almost full sticker book I will investigate a set of medium armor. I was also thinking about stamina potions. Or maybe even converting to a stamina DK.

I think it's hard to describe what 'average' is in a game. I mean, I don't think the 'average' player fights against using a rotation in an MMO, neither does the average ESO player fight against weaving. A lot of the weaving issues come from people being unaware you're meant to do this because it's unique to the game and not something a lot of people know about or understand.

Oakensoul as an item isn't overpowered. Oakensoul, when used by someone with competence in pvp is overpowered. When they talk about the power of items, they usually just mean 'something a large enough % of the population uses in content' and since ESO refuses to balance pve and pvp separately they have to stop it ruining pvp by wrecking it in pve.

U35 will reduce damage across the board, wreak havoc on outliers (I am already concerned my 20-25k dps tanking is going to be trashed a bit, removing my desire to bother tanking on them) but ultimately - you dont need more than about 5k damage to complete the kind of content you enjoy playing so forget about it. If you only do 10k dps right now, you'll still do 8k after any nerfs and you wont really notice a change!

I'm ADHD and almost 70, and my hands are not the best I have trouble practicing a rotation/weaving for all those reasons. This is my retirement hobby. It's supposed to be fun. And the Op Oakensoul comment was mostly tongue-in-cheek. I will try it. But mostly it just seems so overwhelming. I'd like to get some idea for a backup plan. Always have a backup plan has served me well.

ANd right now I don't have a problem with base game world bosses solo with my DK somehow I doubt that will be the case after the update.

But thanks, I guess I'll figure something out.

You are kind of in luck with this patch actually as it stands to help you out a lot. Keep your Oakensoul ring and keep your DK. Equip a resto staff and use Molten Armaments and then fill the rest of your bar with Fighter's Guild skills.

Your rotation is basically to cast Molten Armaments every 20 seconds and then just pick a target and hold left-click on them. That's it! You will very likely see a huge increase in damage output and will get a constant source of healing too!

With Oakensoul there’s no need for molten armaments, they were both changed to grant empower and they also both give major sorcery/brutality.

It's for the minor brutality. Plus the chance to give major and minor to your group if for some reason they don't already have it.

if your running oaken, you wouldnt have enough bar space for a skill that gives 1 minor buff that doesnt stack with everything else oaken is giving you

in a non oaken build, 100% for sure

Literally what else are you gonna run? You have an entire bar of skills you don't need to use. The rest are just there for passives. If you need some extra security then replace one with vigor or regen. The idea here is how to help a person with limited dexterity run a build capable of dealing enough damage for most, if not all, content. All that is needed is a resto staff and empower, everything after that is just style points.

Honestly, what's the different between stam or mag if you are mostly just heavy attacking with a resto ;)

To be fair to yur own point, I do actually think The Harpooner's legs would be better in this case even if you did go with just one bar.

If you want to continue enjoying the game to it's fullest? Maybe check some class guides. Then start learn "stuff" - weaving, rotations, just try to get good, get a feeling for the flow of combat, try to make it feel natural. If you manage to achieve this, you'll have a really good time no matter what patches are going to bring. Not saying you will be happy with everything the game will be bringing on. Just saying: you will be able to enjoy pretty much everything except some hardmodes or vet challenges.

Anyway, might not be what you want to hear, but sometimes diving deep into what is the meta, learning all the necessary stuff, will make more complex games more enjoyable. And ESO is pretty complex in regards to it's combat system compared to a lot of other games.

Depending on what's on your bar, i would suggest getting used to dropping damage over time/area of effect skills and then using your spammable or heavy attacks, and re-casting your DOT/AOE skills when you remember/notice they've finished.

You don't weave, you don't rotate, just keep up your... essentially "passive" damage skills. It makes a noticeable difference.

    This goes for any class.

The other tip I have is movement. You sound like a solo player, so once you've got aggro on a group of them, move around them to keep them all kind of in the same place, that way they'll stay in your ground AOEs and stuff to take more damage.

Yeah maybe you are right? I dunno. I was just coming up with something off the top of my head without testing but I gave it a quick try and while it doesn't light the world on fire it still does at least as much damage as the OP was doing before so there's that. Probably a ton of room for improvement if they wanted to.

EDIT: Forgot to add that the healing from the heavy attacks are huge and coming in basically every 3 seconds like clockwork too

    So
    -5% of 100k = 95k or 5k damage loss
    -5% of 25k = 23.75k or 1.25k damage loss

The less damage you do the less you will notice the changes. It’s already taking you a very long time to kill stuff you won’t notice the extra time it takes you.

Few people will probably be prepared or aware of how to adapt to the changes, but I imagine an oakensoul build pairs well with sergeants mail for a heavy attack build

Isn’t it closer to 20%? Some people may discover they used to clear mob-heavy dungeons like City of Ash 2 by 8pm, now it takes till 8:30. The huge bunches of tiny mobs aren’t getting a 10% health reduction like the bosses. And normal versions of dungeons aren’t getting touched. They won’t know why they feel suddenly weaker until they go out of their way to do the research

without a back bar where are you going to fit dots/heals

    5 slots, 1 minimum is a spammable

1 slot as a heal, that leaves 3 slots for dots, or 2 dots + an execute

if i ran oaken i certainly wouldnt be using molten armaments

since molten armaments was the focus point

as a DK with oaken i would do the fire breath, burning ember, whip, ash cloud, and dragon blood

change a few morphs and you could use that on a mag or stam build, almost regardless of the weapon choices
