Best way to go thru ESO

jamesbohlingnub18_ESO
Should someone go from one place on the map to the next and start the quests until you get to the boss and die. Then leave and die on another quest, etc. until you have died many times over and gone to many maps and then go back at a higher level and retry all the impossible bosses?
I go some places and can not kill the boss. Ex. Angof. I go thru that underground area get three npcs to help me. I use all my food and health drinks. I try to move out of the way of the thorns. I try to use my fire from a distance spell that takes 1.5 seconds to do. I try to use the health spell for npcs and myself. I can not kill Angof.

Ummm, if you are talking about the bosses with the skull and crossbones, those are tuned for a group.

Any skull and crossbones boss is definitely someone you will want others to help you with.

Best way to go through ESO is how you go through any MMO. You run around and kill stuff until you die. Then you examine why you died, and think of what you can do differently next time. Keep trying new things until you find what works.

I know it can get frustrating, especially if you are not very experienced with MMO's. It's really the Achilles heal of MMOs, they have to tune the fights to not be so easy they are boring for experienced players, yet easy enough to eventually be completed by newer players. It's an impossible balancing act.

Luckily there is a very simple solution for this specific problem. Next time you run across a skull and crossed swords area, look at the name of it on the map. Then type in /zone chat, boss so and so is up. Won't be long and reinforcements will arrive.

I believe, in the upcoming patch, that ESO will have a kind of "Death Review" window that shows why you died, and will give tips to avoid that type of death in the future.

I'm terrible at combat, and die a lot, but that has less to do with the design, and more to do with the fact that I'm not used to twitch-style gaming. I've found that a lot of the dangerous stuff is telegraphed, and there's usually a big red circle or cone on the ground that says "Please don't stand in this death field". Red lines on a monster mean "Interrupt me" and yellow lines mean "Block me". I'm good at the blocking part, but I die to the other stuff a lot. But like I said, that's not the fault of the developers.

Oh yeah, and those big boss things, I avoid those since I don't really know what I'm doing. But they look pretty dangerous, and they need a group of people.
The moment you call someone stupid, or try to display your opinion as "fact", you lose all credibility.

The world bosses (marked with a skull and bones) can be easily beaten with a group of people. If you find one just say in zone chat that that boss is up and you would like help to kill it, most often than not several players will make their way to it post haste.

level up a bit and go back to finish those hard to beat bosses. dont wait too long when they go silver on your quest log. a few levels, some skill points into survivability passives work great

Wow, this is interesting. Although getting off some red zone or cone on the ground seems intuitive I never heard of or have noticed red or yellow lines on a monster let alone what they mean--and that _is_ the fault of the developer where these sort of things could be easily explained in the tutorial--as long as whatever is being conveyed stays up on the screen long enough to read and absorb and note. Same problem with a lot of other stuff that isn't explained in the tutorial. I just wrote a note to myself to read through the _entire_ Help section or whatever it is called in the game. The point is that for new MMO gamers the developer needs to do a lot more pointing to Help or answers imo.

You'll occasionally run into a boss that you just can't seem to take. I remember redoing a solo dungeon on Auridon over and over again for over an hour straight because my sorcerer was just too squishy to take the final bosses (there were two of them right next to each other, and then a third nearby).

I eventually sat down and re-evaluated what I was doing. I took a look at my armor and left to craft some upgrades. I used my two spare skill points to get some CC skills so that I could take one boss at a time (which is why I recommend ALWAYS keeping one skill point on standby, in case you need a new skill in a pinch). Many bosses might take some strategizing... the entire game is not going to be a face-roll.

And yes, occasionally, you might have to leave and come back once you've gained a level or two. Angof is the boss of that entire zone; he's supposed to be hard. It's a matter of evaluating the situation and adjusting accordingly.

So I guess, in answer to your question, there is no "right way" to play this game. Explore. Quest. Get killed occasionally. Learn from your mistakes.

    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

If you haven't seen those red or yellow telegraph lines you may have them turned off in the settings. IIRC the default is off. Turning on these telegraphs makes a world of difference, especially when it comes to fighting healer mobs and bosses who have one shot abilities. Also makes it easier to clear content that is out of your level range. I sometimes like to practice my blocking and interrupts on mobs 5-7 levels higher than me. If I don't block or interrupt I'm dead. Keeps me on my toes

EArly on there is also a warning message at the bottom of your screen, usually along the lines of "press X to block incoming attack!" where X is a picture of yoru mouse with the right button highlighted. when that comes up, you block. when the message comes up to press both to interrupt...you interrupt.

There may be somewhere to turn those on and off, so worth checking. also...if you have lower video settings for a slower computer, that may impact your ability to see the red and yellow glowy thing from the mobs.

Although they're not really glowy...they're more like a halo of red or yellow lines emanating from the mob. the yellow are bigger, and spaced out a bit more...the red are slight smaller, but more of them in the halo.

if i can get some nice captures ill post them so peeps can see what they look like (if they haven't seen them yet).

OK, hope these show up. Sorry for the size, i wanted to make sure you could see the indicators.

first one is the one you need to block. hard to see with the sand in the background, but look for the light yellow lines emanating...they are much more visible in real time as they shoot off of the mob:
    o0xjc9.jpg

Usually they will also be cocking back their arm/appendage/bow whatever for a powerful attack. these you WANT TO BLOCK as they can easily take half your health or more for the strong hits.

This one is an example of a channeled attack or an attack that is casting that can be interrupted...and yeah it's a bit fuzzy, but look for the red glow around the mob as well, that can also be an indicator. And just like the yellow lines, these are much easier seen on live. and look for the light red darts emanating off that plant in the pic:

    t0rhhd.jpg

As you can see, they are different enough to be seen, though if you usually stay at range, it can be tougher to see them regularly. it's critical as a melee player to learn when to interrupt these, as the mob tends to get stunned after a block or interrupt, which gives you enough breathing room for an extra attack or a heal.

Thanks for these picture examples. My character has been a basket case all about battle tactics and I'm starting all over again--something I need to stop doing.
